Electricity generation in Ukraine’s Integrated Power System increased by 5.7% (814.9 million kWh) in January 2022, year-over-year, to more than 15 billion kWh, according to the Energy Ministry of Ukraine.
Nuclear power plants (NPPs) increased electricity generation by 25.9% last month to over 9 billion kWh. In particular, generation at Zaporizhia NPP amounted to over 4 billion kWh (12.9% more compared January 2021), Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP to over 2 billion kWh (44.1% more), Rivne NPP to over 1 billion kWh (18.7% more) and Khmelnytsky NPP to more than 1 billion kWh (63.6% more).
Thermal power plants (TPPs), as well as combined heat and power plants (CHPPs) and cogeneration plants reduced their generation by 21.8% to 4.393 billion kWh. In particular, the generating companies of TPPs reduced generation by 15.6% to 3.432 billion kWh, CHPPs and cogeneration plants by 37.9% to 961 million kWh.
Hydro and pumped storage power plants (HPPs and PSPPs) increased generation by 4.1% to 762 million kWh, while power plants decreased by 24.9% to 108 million kWh.
Electricity generation from alternative sources (wind farms, solar power plants, biomass) increased by 29.6% to 837.6 million kWh.
Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) of National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom in January-June 2021 generated 42.1 billion kWh of electricity, which is 6.8% more than in the same period last year (39.4 billion kWh).
“Some 42.1 billion kWh were generated, which is 54.2% of the total electricity generated in Ukraine. In 2020, the share of electricity generated by Energoatom was 51.4%. The electricity generation target has been fulfilled by 106.6%,” Energoatom said on its website on Thursday.
As the company said, Energoatom managed to produce 1.6 billion kWh out of 2.7 billion kWh of additional electricity volumes in the first half of the year by reducing the time for scheduled preventive maintenance at NPPs by almost 75 days.
The installed capacity utilization factor (ICUF) of NPPs amounted to 69.9%, which is 5 percentage points more than in the first half of 2020.
The volume of funding for capital expenditures of Energoatom amounted to UAH 5.1 billion, which is 40.2% more than the same indicator for January-June 2020 (UAH 3.66 billion).
Among the most significant projects in the first half of the year, the company noted construction and preparation for commissioning of the Central Spent Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF), completion of the first stage of splash pools of the South-Ukraine energy complex, construction of a radioactive waste processing complex at Khmelnytsky NPP, as well as construction of the Vilcha-Yaniv railway track with a length of 43 km, which will connect the CSFSF with the railway network of Ukraine.
Electricity production in the Integrated Power System of Ukraine in 2020 decreased 3.3% compared to the same period in 2019, to 148.81 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy has told Interfax-Ukraine.
Nuclear power plants (NPP) last year reduced electricity generation by 8.2% compared to the same period last year, to 76.202 billion kWh. In particular, production of electricity at Zaporizhia NPP amounted to 28.162 billion kWh (26.7% less compared to 2019), Yuzhnoukrainsk some 19.441 billion kWh (8.7% more), Rivne NPP some 17.559 billion kWh (8.2% more), and Khmelnytsky NPP some 11.041 billion kWh (45.9% more).
Thermal power plants (TPP), as well as combined heat and power plants and cogeneration plants reduced their output by 6.2%, to 52.34 billion kWh. In particular, TPPs reduced production by 11.9%, to 39.553 billion kWh, while combined heat and power plants and cogeneration plants increased by 17.6%, to 12.787 billion kWh.
Hydro power plants and pumped storage power plants reduced production by 3.7%, to 7.581 billion kWh, and block stations increased by 4.3%, to 1.845 billion kWh.
Electricity production by non-traditional sources (wind farms, solar power plants, biomass) grew almost twice, to 10.841 billion kWh.
The share of nuclear power plants in the structure of electricity production accounted for 51.2%, thermal power plants, combined heat and power plants and cogeneration plants 35.2%, hydro power plants and pumped storage power plants 5.1%, block stations 1.2%, alternative sources 7.3%.
In December 2020, electricity production in the Integrated Power System of Ukraine grew by 7.2% compared to the same month in 2019, to 15.241 billion kWh.
Electricity generation by all power plants of state-owned enterprise Energoatom in January-July 2019 increased by 4.5% (2.099 billion kWh) compared to the same period of 2018, to 48.861 billion kWh.
According to the press service of the company, the target for production of electricity for this period was exceeded by 1.1%.
During this period, the power plants of the state-owned enterprise supplied 45.954 billion kWh of electricity to the market against 43.979 billion kWh in January-July 2018.
The share of Energoatom in the total structure of electricity production in the country was 53.5%.
The volume of capital investments in the seven months of 2019 amounted to UAH 5.711 billion through January-July against UAH 5.654 billion in the same period last year.
Capital investments funding amounted to UAH 8.714 billion against UAH 7.168 billion in 2018.
Energoatom in January-July transferred UAH 8.203 billion to the budgets of all levels, insurance payments amounted to UAH 1.469 billion.
Ukraine in March 2019 increased generation of electricity by renewable energy facilities 1.9 times (by 195.8 million kWh) compared to March last year, to 409 million kWh. According to the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry, in January-March 2019, the production of electricity by renewable energy facilities increased 1.6 times (by 317.5 million kWh) compared to the same period last year, to 850.3 million kWh.
The share of renewable energy in the structure of electricity production in March 2019 amounted to 2.9%, which is 1.5 p.p. more than in March 2018. The share of renewables in the first quarter of this year was 1.9%, which is 0.7 p.p. more than January-March 2018.
As reported, the forecast electric power balance of Ukraine, updated at the beginning of April, envisages production of electricity by renewable energy facilities in the amount of 5.979 billion kWh, which is 2.3 times (2.633 billion kWh) more than in 2018.
Ukraine in January-March 2019 introduced 861.1 MW of renewable energy facilities, which is 5.4 times more than in the same period of 2018, and 16% more than in the entire of 2018.
Ukraine raises electricity generation by 2.2%
Electricity generation in the united energy system of Ukraine in January-July 2018 increased by 2.2% compared to the same period in 2017, to 92.090 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry has told Interfax-Ukraine. At that time, nuclear power plants (NPP) in the period reduced electricity generation by 10.7%, to 46.627 billion kWh, in particular, electricity generation at Zaporizhia NPP amounted to 21.454 billion kWh (2.1% less than in January-July 2017), Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP to 9.085 billion kWh (3.9% less), Rivne NPP to 8.138 billion kWh (26.9% less), and Khmelnytsky NPP to 7.950 billion kWh (down by 18%).
Thermal power plants (TPP), as well as combined heat and power plants (CHPP) and cogeneration plants increased output by 17.3%, to 34.585 billion kWh. In particular, the generating companies of TPPs increased production by 19.8%, to 27.892 billion kWh, while CHPP and cogeneration plants by 7.7%, to 6.693 billion kWh.
Hydro power plants and hydroelectric pumped storage power plants raised production in January-July 2018 by 32.7%, to 8.601 billion kWh, while block stations reduced by 1.4%, to 835.2 million kWh.
Electricity production by non-traditional sources (wind power plants, solar plants, biomass) for the seven months rose by 36.4%, to 1.443 billion kWh.
