Elina Svitolina has reached the quarterfinal of the US Open – the US open tennis championship, which is the fourth and final tennis tournament in the Grand Slam series, the Grand Tennis of Ukraine said on its website.
Svitolina defeated her principal rival Simona Halep from Romania in the 1/8 final of the US Open with the scores of 6:3 and 6:3.
This was the tenth meeting of the rivals and the sixth victory of the Ukrainian. However, the first one was at the Grand Slam tournaments: the previous two were won by the Romanian.
In the quarter-finals, Svitolina will play with the winner of the meeting between Angelique Kerber from Germany and Canadian Leylah Fernandez.

“Elina Svitolina has won the first title in the 2021 season! In the final of the tournament in Chicago, she beat Alizé Cornet with the score of 7:5 and 6:4,” it says.
According to the Women’s Tennis Association on Facebook, this is the athlete’s 16th WTA title.
