Ukraine exported almost 32 million tons of grain since beginning of marketing year

Ukraine since the beginning of 2022/2023 marketing year (MY, July-June) and until February 27 has exported 31.78 million tons of grain crops, including 18.2 million tons of corn (57.2% of total supplies), 11.24 million tons of wheat (35.6%) and 2.05 million tons of barley (6.4%).
As reported on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Monday, the rate of grain exports since the beginning of this MY is by 26.9% lower than during the same period of the previous MY, when 43.52 million tons were shipped abroad on that date. Thus, on February 27, there was achieved the minimum for the season lag of export volumes from the indicators of the previous season. For comparison, the previous smallest gap from last year’s figures at the rate of “minus” 28.65% was recorded on February 13.
According to the Ministry, Ukraine has exported 18.2 million tons of corn (-5.8% compared to the same period last year), 11.24 million tons of wheat (1.61 times less), 2.05 million tons of barley (2.75 times less), 15.8 thousand tons of rye (10.2 times less) and 97.7 tons of flour (+43.7%) since the beginning of 2022/2023 MY and until February 27 this year.
It is specified that Ukraine exported 4.7 million tons of grain since early February, including 2.94 million tons of corn, 1.51 million tons of wheat, 229 tons of barley, 15,300 tons of flour and 3 tons of rye.
As it follows from the Ministry data, during the week of February 20-27, an average of 192.9 thousand tons of grain was supplied to foreign markets per day, while during the preceding period of February 13-20 – 165.7 thousand tons/day, February 3-13 – 170.7 thousand tons/day, January 27 – February 3 – 209.4 thousand tons/day, January 20-27 – 121.1 thousand tons/day, January 9-20 – 140 thousand tons/day and January 2-9 – 121.7 thousand tons/day. Thus, the average daily rate of exports during the reporting period February 20-27 has increased by 16.4% compared to the previous period February 13-20.
As reported, Ukraine in 2021/2022 MY exported 48.51 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, which is 8.4% higher than in the previous MY, despite the full-scale invasion of Russia and the difficulties with the export of agricultural products due to the blockade of Ukrainian seaports. 18.74 million tons of wheat (12.6% more than in 2020/2021MY), 23.54 million tons of corn (+1.9%), 5.75 million tons of barley (+35.9%), 70.9 thousand tons of flour (-44.1%) were supplied to foreign markets.
Ukraine in 2020/2021 MY exported 44.72 million tons of grain and leguminous crops: 16.64 million tons of wheat, 23.08 million tons of corn, 4.23 million tons of barley, 126.9 thousand tons of flour and 18.4 thousand tons of rye.
In 2019/2020, Ukraine exported 56.72 million tons of grain and leguminous crops.

Ukraine did not export coke in January and reduced imports by 94%

Ukraine did not export coke in January this year, as it did in December last year, whereas in January 2022 it exported 1.012 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), last month Ukraine imported 5.289 thousand tons of coke and semi-coke, which is 93.9% less than in January 2022.
In monetary terms, imports fell by 95% to $2.388 million.
Imports came mainly from Poland (64.26% of supplies in monetary terms), Colombia (24.01%) and Hungary (11.73%).
As earlier reported, in 2022, Ukraine reduced the export of coke and semi-coke in volume terms by 98% compared with the previous year – up to 3.856 tons, in monetary terms by 97.6% – to $1.011 million. The main export was carried out in Hungary (42.63% of supplies in monetary terms), Georgia (37.69%) and Turkey (17.41%).
Ukraine imported 359.192 thousand tons of coke and semi-coke in 2022, down 54.5% compared to 2021. In monetary terms, imports decreased by 50.3% to $174.499 million. Imports were mainly from Russia (43.43% of supplies in monetary terms, before the war), Poland (30.07%) and the Czech Republic (13.15%).
As a result of the war, a number of mines and coke plants found themselves in territories temporarily outside Ukrainian control.

Ukraine increases export of ferroalloys by 33.6%

Ukraine in January this year increased the export of ferroalloys in kind by 33.6% compared to the same period last year, to 55,900 tonnes.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service, in monetary terms, the export of ferroalloys dropped by 35.5% to $51.573 million.
At the same time, the major exports were to Poland (57.25% of supplies in monetary terms), China (10.39%) and Turkey (7.37%).
In addition, in January, Ukraine imported 402 tonnes of these products, which is 96.3% less compared to January 2022. In monetary terms, imports fell by 84.6% to $1.657 million.
Ferroalloys were mainly imported from China (27.68%), Armenia (18.03%) and Slovakia (14.54%).

Ukraine in January reduced foreign exchange earnings from exports of ferrous metals 6.2 times by January 2022

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January this year reduced revenues from ferrous metals exports 6.2 times compared to the same period last year – to $165.690m.
According to the statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), ferrous metals accounted for 5.29% of total revenues from the export of goods during this period against 17.01% in January-2022.
At the same time, Ukraine reduced imports of similar products by 50% to $68.593 million in January this year.
In addition, Ukraine reduced exports of metal products by 48.8% to $62.127 million in January, while imports of metal products decreased by 35.2% – to $51.263 million.
As reported, metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in 2022, revenues from exports of ferrous metals decreased by 67.5% compared to 2021 – to $4 billion 533.088 million – ferrous metals during this period amounted to 10.26% of total revenues from the export of goods against 20.49% in 2021. In December 2022, the proceeds from exports of ferrous metals amounted to $173.944 million, while in November – $205.647 million.
At the same time, last year, Ukraine reduced imports of similar products by 38.3% – to $954.387 million. In December, it was imported by $89.275 million.
In addition, in 2022, Ukraine reduced exports of metal products by 18.6% – to $ 1 billion 52.512 million, in December, they were delivered for $ 69.285 million.
Imports of metal products last year decreased by 42.9% – to $643.162 million (in December – $67.705 million).
