Ukraine in January-April of this year increased exports of ferroalloys in kind by 24.1% compared to the same period last year, to 205,506 tonnes.
According to customs statistics released by the State Customs Service, in monetary terms, exports of ferroalloys decreased 13.1%, to $246.614 million.
The main export of ferroalloys was to Turkey (17.42% of supplies in monetary terms), Poland (13.08%) and Italy (12.69%).
In addition, in January-April 2021, Ukraine imported 18,547 tonnes of these products, which is 28% more compared to January-April 2020. In monetary terms, imports grew by 17.2%, to $43.224 million.
Imports were mainly from Brazil (17.9%), Kazakhstan (16.92%), and the Czech Republic (11.69%).
PrivatBank (Kyiv) prior to its nationalization organized the business of Stakhanov and Zaporizhia ferroalloys plants. Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant is under control of the EastOne Group, established in autumn 2007 as a result of the restructuring of the Interpipe group, as well as the Privat Group.
Ukraine’s largest ferroalloy smelters Nikopol and Zaporizhia ferroalloy works reduced ferroalloy output by 3.2% in January-May 2019 to 433,170 tonnes as compared with the same period in 2018, the Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers’ Association told Interfax-Ukraine.
During the review period, overall silicon manganese production dropped by 7% to 350,010 tonnes and ferromanganese output was 15% up to 35,280 tonnes. Output of 45%-ferrosilicon grew by 6.1% to 35,680 tonnes and manganese metal production fell by 4% to 3,160 tonnes.
Nikopol Ferroalloy Works raised production of other ferroalloys by 2.4 times to 9,040 tonnes.
The country’s two manganese concentrate producers, the Pokrovsky (formerly Ordzhonikidze) and Marhanets mining and beneficiation plants, produced 555,580 tonnes of manganese concentrate in January-May 2019, which is 4.4% less than in January-May 2018.
Marhanets mining and beneficiation plant produced 205,430 tonnes of concentrate (a fall of 6.2%) and Pokrovsky mining and beneficiation plant made 350,150 tonnes (a decline of 3.4%) in January-May 2019 as compared with the same period last year. In addition, the latter produced 63,740 tonnes of manganese sinter, which is 20.7% less than in January-May 2018.
Large ferroalloy enterprises of Ukraine – Nikopol and Zaporizhia Ferroalloy plants – in 2018 totally increased production by 0.8% compared with 2017, to 1.035 million tonnes.
The Ukrainian Association of Ferroalloy Manufacturers told Interfax-Ukraine that over the period silicon-manganese production grew by 6%, to 859,640 tonnes, while ferromanganese output fell by 30.6%, to 79,480 tonnes.
In addition, production of ferrosilicon (45% concentrate) fell by 18.8%, to 75,440 tonnes, and manganese metal – by 2.4%, to 7,460 tonnes.
Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant also produced 13,150 tonnes of other ferroalloys, while in 2017 it was 1,410 tonnes (a 9.3-fold rise).
The country’s two manganese concentrate producers, the Pokrovsky (formerly Ordzhonikidze) and Marhanets mining and beneficiation plants, produced 1.522 million tonnes of manganese concentrate in 2018, which is 6.8% more than in2017.
Marhanets mining and beneficiation plant produced 570,440 tonnes of concentrate (a rise of 4.6%) and Pokrovsky mining and beneficiation plant made 951,460 tonnes (a rise of 8.2%). In addition, the latter produced 196,600 tonnes of manganese sinter(21.3% up year-over-year).
Ukraine raised ferroalloy output 3.8% year-on-year in Q1 2018 to 266,320 tonnes, the Ukrainian Ferroalloy Producers’ Association has told Interfax-Ukraine. The country raised silicon manganese production 10.9% to 221,110 tonnes while ferromanganese output fell 29.8% to 21,960 tonnes. Output of 45%-ferrosilicon fell 15.2% to 19,800 tonnes and manganese metal production fell 17.6%, to 1,970 tonnes.
Nikopol Ferroalloy Works, the biggest of Ukraine’s three ferroalloy smelters, raised silicon manganese production 14.3% to 189,450 tonnes but reduced ferromanganese output 41.5% to 12,760 tonnes and boosted other alloy output 6.3-fold to 1,480 tonnes. Overall ferroalloy output at Nikopol grew 8.5% 203,690 tonnes.
Zaporizhia Ferroalloy Works reduced silicon manganese production 5.7% to 31,660 tonnes, with ferromanganese falling 2.6% to 9,200 tonnes. Overall output fell 8.9% to 62,630 tonnes.
The Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant idled due to the conflict in Luhansk region, where it is located.
The country’s two manganese concentrate producers, the Pokrovsky (formerly Ordzhonikidze) and Marhanets mining and beneficiation plants, produced 301,830 tonnes of concentrate between them in Q1 2018, 13.3% more than a year previously. Pokrovsky raised output 20.1% to 186,870 tonnes and Marhanets raised it 3% to 114,960 tonnes. Pokrovsky also produced 36,130 tonnes of manganese sinter, up 2.3-fold.
PrivatBank (Dnipro) organized the business of the Nikopol and Zaporizhia ferroalloy plants, as well as Pokrovsky and Marhanets mining and processing enterprises until its nationalization.
The Nikopol plant is controlled by EastOne Group, established in autumn 2007 as a result of restructuring of Interpipe Group, and Privat Group (both based in Dnipro).
