Vice-President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič has said that underground storage filling levels in the European Union (EU) and Ukraine are good.
“A few words on preparations ahead of this winter. I am glad to say that EU underground storage filling levels are very good – currently standing at 96% of full capacity,” Šefčovič said at a press conference in Brussels after the EU-Ukraine-Russia trilateral gas talks.
“Ukraine’s underground storage filling levels are also good – currently at around 19.6 billion cubic meters, almost 4 billion cubic meters above levels in September last year,” he said.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said that the country is ready to put 44 fields with 150 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas stocks up for electronic auctions. “Today we are making a decision to open information about geospatial data and about holding auctions. We have prepared 44 land parcels with 150 bcm of gas stocks, which require investment and technologies,” he said, opening a government meeting.
“Our task is clear – to open all the geological information about the deposits, to provide opportunities of arriving to the country for Ukrainian and world business on the basis of transparent auctions and extract Ukrainian gas so that we refuse to import it. As soon as we refuse to import gas, we would immediately decisively reduce gas prices, and we would not depend on the global gas price,” he added.
Ukraine has raised natural gas reserves in its underground storage facilities (UGS) by 3.362 billion cubic meters after the end of the heating season, PJSC Ukrtransgaz has said.
Thus, from April 8 to June 23 gas reserves in storage facilities grew by 45.2%, to 10.797 billion cubic meters from 7.435 billion cubic meters.
According to Interfax-Ukraine’s estimates, gas stocks on June 1-23 expanded by 1.231 billion cubic meters (53.54 million cubic meters per day), in May by 1.632 billion cubic meters (52.65 million cubic meters per day), April 9-30 by 500.84 million cubic meters (22.77 million cubic meters per day).
If the existing volumes of imports and current domestic production are preserved, the country will have about 11.2 billion cubic meters of reserves in storage facilities in July.
Ukrtransgaz, 100% owned by NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, operates the system of trunk gas pipelines and 12 underground gas storage facilities of the country with a total capacity of 31 billion cubic meters.
After the heating season had completed, Ukraine increased natural gas reserves in its underground storage facilities (UGS) by 2.971 billion cubic meters, according to data from PJSC Ukrtransgaz. Thus, from April 8 to June 16 gas reserves in storage facilities had grown by 40%, to 10.406 billion cubic meters from 7.435 billion cubic meters.
According to the calculations of Interfax-Ukraine, on June 1-16 gas stocks rose by 841.21 million cubic meters (52.58 million cubic meters per day), in May by 1.632 billion cubic meters (52.65 million cubic meters per day), April 9-30 by 500.84 million cubic meters (22.77 million cubic meters per day).
