Ukraine ranked second in the ranking of world grain exporters in terms of total exports in the past 2019/2020 agricultural year, including the second in barley supplies, fourth in maize supplies, and fifth for wheat, Deputy Minister of Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture, Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka has said, referring to the data announced at the 52nd session of the International Grains Council.
“According to the results of the 2019/2020 agri-year, in aggregate in terms of the volume of exports of all grain crops, Ukraine became second, leaving behind only the United States,” Kachka said, commenting on the results of the session, in a press release from the Economy Ministry on Monday.
According to him, Ukraine has the potential to further increase the production and export of grain.
According to the estimates of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which data were used to compile the rating, in the previous agri-year Ukraine exported 21.01 million tonnes of wheat with a harvest of 29.17 million tonnes, 28.93 million tonnes of corn with a harvest of 35.89 million tonnes, and in general, grain exports amounted to 55.09 million tonnes with a harvest of 75.72 million tonnes.
In the current agri-year (2020/2021), the USDA forecasts the export of grain from Ukraine 45.81 million tonnes with a harvest of 64.21 million tonnes, including 24 million tonnes of corn with a harvest of 29.5 million tonnes and 17.5 million tonnes of wheat with a harvest of 25.5 million tonnes.
Ukraine exported in the current 2020/2021 marketing year (MY) and as of January 15 some 27.2 million tonnes of grain and legumes, while in the previous MY and as of January 20, some 33.9 million tonnes were supplied to foreign markets, the Economy Ministry said at its website with a link to the data of the State Customs Service.
“In the current 2020/2021 MY, some 12.6 million tonnes of wheat have already been exported. It fully meets the planned dynamics that we have agreed on with the specialized associations by signing the corresponding annex to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Grain Market,” Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Petrashko said.
The Economy Ministry said that out of 27.2 million tonnes of grains and legumes, in addition to wheat, 3.9 million tonnes of barley, 1,700 tonnes of rye and 10.3 million tonnes of corn were also supplied to foreign markets. In addition, 81,500 tonnes of flour in terms of grain were exported.
As reported, in the 2019/2020 marketing year and as of January 20, 2020, Ukraine exported 15.5 million tonnes of wheat, 3.8 million tonnes of barley and 14.2 million tonnes of corn, as well as 207,000 tonnes of flour in terms of grain.
Since the beginning of the new 2020/2021 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of December 7, Ukraine has exported 22.3 million tonnes of grains and legumes, which is 4 million tonnes less than on the same date of the last MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, to date, 12.1 million tonnes of wheat (-1.7 million tonnes), 3.71 million tonnes of barley (+ 0.14 million tonnes) and 6.12 million tonnes of corn ( -2.48 million tonnes) have been exported.
As of December 7 of this year, 70,500 tonnes of flour were also exported.
As reported, Ukraine exported a record 57.2 million tonnes of cereals, legumes and flour in 2019/2020 MY, which is 13.5% more than in the previous MY.
Ukraine since the beginning of the new 2020/2021 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of October 12 had exported 13.12 million tonnes of grain and legumes, which is 2.14 million tonnes less than on the same date last MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, to date, 9.2 million tonnes of wheat, 3.06 million tonnes of barley and 820,000 tonnes of corn have been exported.
As of October 12 this year, 55,700 tonnes of flour were also exported.

Ukraine plans to expand geography of exports of Ukrainian wheat to the markets of China and Vietnam in 2018, as well as relax supplies to Indonesia, the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumers’ Protection has reported. “The export of wheat from Ukraine in 2016/2017 agricultural year amounted to more than 17.5 million tonnes, while Indonesia ranked fourth in the system of Ukrainian wheat exports – more than 1.6 million tonnes (9%). At the same time, in 2017/2018 agri-year Indonesia was the first in the statistics for wheat exports – more than 1 million tonnes,” Head of the authority Volodymyr Lapa said at a meeting with the representatives of the Grain and Oilseed Committee of the European Business Association (EBA).
The annual export of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine is about 40 million tonnes, he said.
The meeting participants also discussed the current state of grain exports and phytosanitary requirements of partner countries in international trade.
Deputy Head of the Department of Phytosanitary Security, Head of Plant Quarantine Department of the Department of Phytosanitary Security and Control in the Seed Industry of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumers’ Protection Vadym Chaikovsky said that when forming export batches of crops and crop products, it is necessary to comply with the phytosanitary requirements of the partner countries of Ukraine. If necessary, free areas from pests should be established and be prepared for an annual inspection of agricultural crops for export to China.
Exports of grain crops and flour since early 2017/18 agricultural year (July-June) as of March 14, 2018 reached 28.36 million tonnes, which is 2.83 million less than a year ago, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine has reported.
According to the report, a total of 28 million tonnes of grain was exported, including 13.44 million tonnes of wheat (530,000 tonnes less than a year ago), 10.33 million tonnes of corn (1.7 million tonnes less) and 4.04 million tonnes of barley (664,000 tonnes less).
Exports of rye accounted for 18,200 tonnes (18,100 tonnes more) and flour – 320,800 tonnes (54,000 tonnes more).
