Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko congratulated Ukrainian boxer and WBA, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) on his victory in the fight against British boxer Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
“A worthy and brilliant victory! Oleksandr Usyk defended all his titles in professional boxing, including the absolute world heavyweight champion in the rematch,” he wrote in a telegram.
Klitschko called the fight between Usyk and Fury one of the most anticipated rematches in boxing history. “Very tense and emotional. Resonant long before the event. The Russian “experts” and “soothsayers” were especially foaming at the mouth. Congratulations, Oleksandr! This victory today is not only yours. This is a victory for Ukraine!” the mayor said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that EUR 500 thousand was raised for the creation of a prosthetics center in the capital during a charity fundraiser in Berlin.
“For our prosthetics center, which we are creating in Kyiv with the help of Berlin, we raised a total of EUR 500 thousand yesterday,” he wrote in his telegram channel on Thursday.
According to him, almost EUR305 thousand were donations in cash. “In addition, German business will provide, among other things, equipment to the prosthetics workshop for five additional employees,” he added.
Klitschko thanked the German benefactors, as well as the Life bridge Ukraine organization and its head Janine von Wolfersdorf, who, together with the Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists, organized a charity evening to raise funds for the prosthetics center.
“I am also grateful to the mayor of Kyiv’s sister city, Berlin, Kai Wegner, with whom we convinced Berlin businessmen of the importance of a joint project to create a prosthetics center in Kyiv,” Klitschko said.
Since 2014, 570 squares and parks have been created and renovated in the capital, including Peremoha, Sovky, and Nyvky, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
“Since 2014, we have renovated and created a total of 570 parks and squares. From now on, Kyiv residents and guests of the capital, as well as families who took refuge in our city during the war, can walk along the breathtaking slopes of Volodymyrska Hill, the modern Kurenivskyi Park, and the renovated Peremoha, Sovky, and Nyvky parks, a new recreation area in Troyeshchyna, as well as a real green diamond of Kyiv – Natalka Park, which has already become part of a large recreational area that we continue to create in Obolon,” Klitschko wrote on his Telegram channel on Wednesday on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his mayoralty in the capital.
Klitschko has been the mayor of Kyiv since June 5, 2014.
The construction of an overpass at the intersection of Bohatyrska and Polyarna streets in Kyiv is scheduled to be completed in September and traffic will be opened in May, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
“Work on the construction of an overpass at the intersection of Bohatyrska and Polyarna streets continues around the clock, seven days a week,” Klitschko wrote in his telegram channel.
Klitschko noted that it is planned to open traffic by May.
And it is planned to complete all the work on the site and fully open the traffic with exits by September this year, the mayor said.
On Friday, December 1, special vehicles, emergency vehicles and bus service for passengers from the left bank to the right bank of the Podilsko-Voskresenskyi Bridge crossing were opened in Kyiv to ensure life support during martial law, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
“At the first stage, bus route No. 111 will operate here in the direction of the metro station “Square of Ukrainian Heroes” – metro station “Livoberezhna,” Klitschko wrote in his telegram channel.
He emphasized that the Podilsko-Voskresenskyi bridge crossing is the largest of the transport infrastructure facilities in Kyiv and Ukraine: its length is more than 10 km.
“A few years ago, we planned and promised to ensure passenger traffic as the first stage of the facility’s launch. And today, it has finally happened! To all the skeptics and those who tried to block the work at the facility, I will say one thing: now look for other reasons for your manipulations,” the mayor added.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko and Hamburg Mayor Peter Chencher at a meeting in the Ukrainian capital discussed further assistance to Kiev, in particular the issue of providing autonomous emergency communication systems, Klitschko said
“Today met with the first mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg Peter Chencher. Thanked for the support and assistance of Hamburg to the Ukrainian capital. And agreed on further cooperation. We discussed with Mr. Chencher assistance of our German partners in providing Kiev with communication systems for emergency cases (in case of blackout). They are necessary today, in particular, for emergency stations, rescue workers, utilities, “- Klitschko wrote on his page on Facebook.
According to him, the issue of providing Kiev with the latest equipment for the warning system was also discussed.
“Very important for our city is the issue of safety of its residents. Kiev needs equipment for the latest warning system, which we have already begun to install. We are talking about a system for announcing air-raid alarms. To develop this system, we need more devices that work autonomously when there is no light. An example of a system that Kiev is installing now is the German one, among others. The mayor of Hamburg assured further assistance to Kiev – both in the current acute needs and in the future reconstruction of the capital of Ukraine”, – said Klitschko.
In addition, Hamburg has provided Kiev with three city buses as assistance, which are already on their way to Kiev.
Klitschko called on German partners to continue to support Ukraine until victory.
“Vladimir and I also talked to the German media and urged both the German authorities and German society to continue to support Ukraine and provide all necessary assistance for our victory and the establishment of peace in Europe,” said Vitali Klitschko.
As it was reported, Kiev and Hamburg signed the “Agreement for solidarity and future” on April 24, 2022. They agreed on a strategic partnership and support in times of crisis.
