Lead imports increased 8-fold, exports decreased by 16%

In January-May 2025, Ukraine imported lead and lead products worth $3.413 million, which is 8.1 times more than in the same period in 2024. In May, imports amounted to $644 thousand.

At the same time, exports of lead products decreased by 16.1% to $3.638 million (in May – $679 thousand).

In 2024, Ukraine increased lead imports by 2.4 times to $2.391 million, while exports decreased by 22.9% to $11.401 million. For comparison: in 2023, imports amounted to $989 thousand, and exports – $14.778 million.

Lead imports increased 7 times, exports fell by 25%

In the first quarter of 2025, imports of lead and lead products to Ukraine increased 7.4 times to $2.09 million ($863 thousand in March).

Exports decreased by 25.2% to $2.12 million ($773 thousand in March).

In 2024, imports also increased by 2.4 times to $2.39 million, while exports fell by 22.9% to $11.4 million.

Lead is currently mainly used in the production of lead-acid batteries for the automotive industry. In addition, lead is used to make bullets and some alloys.

In January 2025, Ukraine increased imports of lead and lead products by 4.3 times compared to the same period in 2024, to $580 thousand (in December – $1.193 million). At the same time, lead exports decreased by 26.3% to $643 thousand (December: $583 thousand).

Lead is currently mainly used in the production of lead-acid batteries for the automotive industry. In addition, lead is used to make bullets and some alloys.

Ukraine in January-June reduced imports of lead by 4%

Ukrainian enterprises, according to the customs authorities, in January-June this year reduced imports of lead and lead products by 3.9% – to $560 thousand (in June – $137 thousand).
Exports of lead and lead products decreased by 30.8% over the reporting period – to $5.404 million (in June – $1.070 million),

Ukraine in January-April reduced imports of lead, but increased imports of tin

According to customs statistics released by the State Customs Service of Ukraine on Friday, Ukraine reduced imports of lead and lead products by 13.8% – to $406 thousand (in April – $124 thousand), imports of tin and tin products increased by 10.2% – to $887 thousand (in April – $267 thousand). Exports of lead and lead products decreased by 35.3% to $3.537 mln.
As reported, Ukraine in 2023 reduced imports of lead and lead products by 65.2% – to $989 thousand, imports of tin and tin products – by 23% – to $2.728 million. Exports of tin and tin products amounted to $159 thousand against $424 thousand for 2022.
Zinc exports for 2022 totaled $1.331 million, compared to $550 thousand in 2021. Exports of tin and products totaled $424 thousand in 2022, compared to $346 thousand the previous year.
Lead is used to make bullets and shot. It is part of many alloys, such as bearing alloys, printing alloy, tin-lead solder, bronzes and brasses. .
Tin is often used as a protective coating due to these properties. It is the main constituent of solder and babbitts, typographic alloys and bronzes.
