Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises in January-August increased foreign currency earnings from ferrous metal exports to $2 bln

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January-August of this year increased revenues from exports of ferrous metals by 13.5% compared to the same period last year – up to $2 billion 66.849 million.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS) on Friday, ferrous metals accounted for 7.49% of total receipts from exports of goods during this period against 7.44% in January-August-2023.
Ferrous metals export earnings totaled $314.901 million in August, compared to $285.516 million in the previous month.

Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises increased exports of steel products to $152 mln in January-February

In January-February 2024, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises increased their exports of steel products by 3.7% to $152.383 million. In February, they were exported for $88.056 million.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service, imports of metal products increased by 33.4% to $144.769 million. In February, these products were imported for $72.123 million.

As reported earlier, in 2023, Ukraine’s steelmaking companies reduced revenues from exports of ferrous metals by 41.59% compared to 2022, to $2 billion 647.722 million, with ferrous metals accounting for 7.32% of total revenues from exports of goods in this period, while in 2022 the share was 10.26%. At the same time, in 2023, Ukraine increased imports of similar products by 37% to $1 billion 307.046 million.

In addition, last year, Ukraine reduced exports of metal products by 16.6% year-on-year to $877.916 million. At the same time, imports of metal products increased by 40.3% to $902.565 million during this period.

In 2022, Ukraine decreased revenues from ferrous metal exports by 67.5% compared to 2021, to $4 billion 533.088 million. During this period, ferrous metals accounted for 10.26% of total revenues from exports of goods, compared to 20.49% in 2021. At the same time, in 2022, Ukraine reduced imports of similar products by 38.3% to $954.387 million.

In addition, in 2022, Ukraine reduced exports of metal products by 18.6% to $1 billion 52.512 million. Imports of metal products fell by 42.9% to $643.162 million over the year.

Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises increased revenues from exports of ferrous metals by 65.4%

In January this year, Ukraine’s steelmaking companies increased revenues from ferrous metal exports by 65.4% year-on-year to $274.077 million from $165.690 million.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS) on Friday, ferrous metals accounted for 8.06% of total export revenues during this period, compared to 5.29% in January 2023.

At the same time, in January this year, Ukraine increased imports of similar products by 59.5% to $109.414 million from $68.593 million.

In addition, in January, Ukraine increased exports of metal products by 3.5% to $64.327 million from $62.127 million. Imports of metal products increased by 41.7% to $72.646 million from $51.263 million.

In December 2023, revenues from exports of ferrous metals amounted to $214.531 million, while in the previous month – $174.380 million. In December 2023, the company imported these products for $107.367 million.

In December, the company exported steel products worth $56.083 million and imported $74.186 million.

METALLURGICAL ENTERPRISES OF UKRAINE REDUCES STEEL PRODUCTION IN JAN-APR BY 46%

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January-April this year reduced steel production by 45.9% compared to the same period last year – to 3.858 million tonnes. According to the recent information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), in April, only one steel plant produced steel.

“Insignificant volumes of steel production were shown by some foundry enterprises,” the information of UAVtormet says.

In addition, it is reported that ferrous scrap enterprises for the four months of 2022 reduced procurement of scrap metal by 50.4% compared to the same period in 2021, to 620,100 tonnes.

The export of scrap metal for the specified period amounted to 7,100 tonnes, which is 12.3 times less compared to the four months of 2021 (87,000 tonnes). At the same time, scrap imports amounted to 100 tonnes, while in January-April 2021 – 7,800 tonnes.

The supply of scrap to the country’s steel enterprises in January-April 2022 decreased by 47.1% compared to January-April 2021, to 583,500 tonnes. The total volume of scrap metal supplies in April amounted to 52,500 tonnes.

The level of scrap metal stocks at steel enterprises as of May 1, 2022 is estimated at 60,000 tonnes.

METALLURGICAL ENTERPRISES OF UKRAINE IN 2021 INCREASE EARNINGS FROM EXPORT OF FERROUS METALS BY 81.4%

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in 2021 increased revenues from the export of ferrous metals by 81.4% compared to 2020, to $13.951 billion.
According to the updated statistics released by the State Customs Service on Friday, ferrous metals accounted for 20.49% of total merchandise export earnings over this period, compared to 15.63% in 2020.
In December, proceeds from the export of ferrous metals amounted to $1.34 billion.
At the same time, Ukraine increased imports of ferrous metals by 48.8% in 2021, to $1.547 billion. In December, this figure was $140.660 million.
In addition, in 2021, Ukraine increased the export of metal products by 43%, to $1.293 billion. In December, metal products for $128.729 million were delivered.
Imports of metal products over the past year grew by 28%, to $1.126 billion. In December, metal products for $116.609 million were imported.
As reported, Ukrainian steel enterprises in 2020 reduced revenues from the export of ferrous metals by 12% compared to the previous year, to $7.69 billion. At the same time, Ukraine in 2020 reduced imports of ferrous metals by 17%, to $1.04 billion.
In addition, Ukraine in 2020 reduced the export of metal products by 13.2%, to $904.533 million. Over the year, imports of metal products fell by 20%, to $879.687 million.

UKRAINE TO INCREASE STEEL OUTPUT BY 6% IN 2021

Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises are expected to increase steel production by 6% by the end of 2021 year-over-year, to 21.894 million tonnes.
According to the background documents of the Economy Ministry, which are available to Interfax-Ukraine, the production of general rolled products will increase by 5%, to 19.411 million tonnes, cast iron smelting by 6%, to 21.727 million tonnes.
The forecast is based on production indicators for January-June 2021, summarized by the Ukrmetallurgprom association, the ministry said.
At the same time, the agency’s source said that if the existing trends continue, the supply of scrap metal to metallurgical enterprises in 2021 will increase by 14%, to 3.31 million tonnes.
The output of pipes in 2021 may increase by 12%, to 957,000 tonnes, coke by 3%, to 9.927 million tonnes, firebricks by 9%, to 240,000 tonnes (119,000 tonnes were produced over six months of 2021, growth is 9%).
Sinter output may increase by 7%, to 34.207 million tonnes.
