On June 17, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has agreed with MetLife PJSC, specializing in life insurance, to expand the scope of the license for direct insurance and incoming reinsurance.
According to the regulator’s website, the company has received the right to carry out insurance in the classes of accident insurance (including industrial injury and occupational disease) and sickness insurance (including health insurance).
The message also underlines that taking into account this extension the license of PJSC “MetLife” is considered to be reissued.
According to the statements of PJSC “MetLife”, the volume of insurance premiums of the company in the specified period amounted to UAH 2,489 billion, insurance reserves – UAH 6,186 billion.
For 2023 the insurer has paid out insurance indemnities in the amount of UAH 516,6 mln.
The share of the company by the volume of insurance reserves in the life insurance market is 31,3%.
Private JSC “MetLife” is a part of the leading world corporation MetLife. The company has been operating in Ukraine since 2002. The main lines of business are accumulative life insurance, accident and critical illness insurance, corporate insurance and bancassurance.
Insurance Company MetLife (Kyiv) in 2020 made insurance payments in the amount of more than UAH 211.9 million, which is 27% more than a year earlier, according to a press release from the insurer.
At the same time, it is noted that the bulk of payments fell on situations related to the insurance protection of health of the company’s clients.
The company reports that in 2020, some 29 large payments were made, including 22 payments each in the amount of more than UAH 500,000, six payments in the amount of more than UAH 1 million and one payment in the amount of more than UAH 2 million. The number of insured events for which payments were made also increased by 14%.
In addition, during 2020, some 21,095 payments were made to the insured under life and health protection programs. Among the main reasons for payments in 2020, there were surgical interventions (6,028) and injuries (5,214) – they account for 53% of all appeals.
The company also reports that since the beginning of MetLife’s operations in Ukraine (2003-2020), the total payments to the company’s clients have exceeded UAH 857.845 million.
According to the industry rating Insurance TOP, during 2019-2020 MetLife is the constant leader in terms of the volume of insurance payments of all life insurance companies in Ukraine.

Chairperson of the Board of PJSC MetLife insurer (Kyiv) Monika Barbara Spadlo-Kolano on October 8 was dismissed from the position of her own free will, according to the official information of the insurance company in the information base of the National Securities and Stock Market Commission of Ukraine.
It is also reported that Inna Belianska has been appointed acting chairperson of the board. She holds the position of director of the department of individual sales, head of the department of sales, member of the board of MetLife.

The shareholder who owns 99.9988% of the voting shares of PrJSC MetLife is the Swiss company MetLife Global Holding Company II LLC, which is part of the global holding corporation MetLife (the Unite States). American Life Insurance Company (the United States) remains an indirect shareholder of PrJSC MetLife.
The charter capital of the company is UAH 102.925 million.
PrJSC MetLife (Kyiv) saw UAH 166.5 million in net profit in 2018, which is 43.6% more than a year ago (UAH 115.9 million), according to the materials to the agenda of the general meeting of shareholders of the insurer scheduled for March 14, 2019.
Undistributed profit of the company for 2018 amounted to UAH 84.077 million, which is 2.5 times more than in 2017.
Last year, the company increased its assets 22.8% compared with 2017, to UAH 2.619 billion.
The net worth of the insurer for the year increased 18.5%, to UAH 325 million.
Total accounts receivable increased 28%, to UAH 49.6 million, cash and cash equivalents decreased 77.8%, to UAH 124.363 million, current liabilities increased 35.5%, to UAH 134.4 million, and long-term liabilities – by 22.7%, to UAH 2.159 billion.
