“DTEK Energy” has produced first two shearers for mines

“In January 2024, DTEK Energy produced the first two shearers for Ukrainian mines – a tunneling machine and a shearer.

“It is important that factory workers do not lose momentum in the difficult conditions of war and continue to contribute to the common cause… This year, the miners’ task remains unchanged – despite the war, to maintain coal production at the maximum and sufficient level,” Ildar Saleev, the company’s CEO, wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

According to him, in addition to shearers, the energy holding’s machine builders also manufactured and repaired 90 units of mining equipment, as well as 67,000 parts and components in January.

As reported earlier, DTEK’s machine builders manufactured 15 new roadheaders and shearers and 1.1 million spare parts for Ukrainian coal miners in 2023.

“DTEK Energy ensures a closed cycle of electricity generation from coal. The installed capacity of thermal power generation amounted to 13.3 GW as of January 2022. The company has established a full production cycle in coal mining: coal mining and enrichment, machine building and maintenance of mine equipment.

Buffett Foundation wants to provide Kharkiv region with drones to identify mines

The Foundation of American public figure and businessman Howard Graham Buffett is preparing to provide Kharkiv region with experimental drones that will help identify mines from the air, the OVA head Oleg Sinegubov said.
“The Howard Buffett Foundation wants to provide us with experimental drones to detect from the air, survey the area and map (the location) of mines with the corresponding coordinates,” Sinegubov said at a briefing on Tuesday.
“At the moment, this equipment is already receiving all export licenses and certificates in the United States. As soon as they pass, they will immediately enter the territory of the Kharkov region. This fund has identified the territory of the Kharkiv region as a priority,” the head of the OVA added.
As it was reported earlier, Buffett donated four modern mobile DNA laboratories ANDE 6C and 300 chips to them, which conduct express analysis of DNA samples, as well as 19 powerful generators to ensure the operation of critical and social infrastructure facilities in the region during power outages resulting from armed Russian aggression, to Kharkiv police.
As is well known, Kharkiv region is considered the most contaminated with explosives in Ukraine.

UKRAINE’S UNPROFITABLE MINES TO BE CLOSED WITHIN 10 YEARS

According to the draft concept for the transformation of the coal industry, all unprofitable mines will be closed within ten years, and subsidies for coal enterprises from the budget will be reduced in the coming years, First Deputy Energy Minister Olha Buslavets has said. “The concept is already completing all the approval procedures. It provides that unprofitable mines will be closed within ten years, minimization of subsidies to the industry from the national budget will take place in the coming years,” she said during the First German-Ukrainian Energy Day on Tuesday. According to her, Ukraine intends to completely abandon fossil fuels by 2070.
At the same time, referring to the European Green Deal, Buslavets said the abandonment of fossils should occur gradually, without negative impact on the economy and people employed in the industry. “It is necessary to worry so that no one is left behind, this is the motto of a fair transformation of the coal industry, laid down in the European Green Deal. It should also happen here,” Buslavets said, drawing attention to the need to “attract real material and technical assistance from Ukraine’s partners” and creating incentives for the development of new businesses in coal regions.
As reported, the draft concept for the transformation of the coal industry provides for the division of mines into three groups: the first is the mines to be integrated with PJSC Centrenergo and are its resource base. The second is dual-use mines, that is, those that extract both steam and coking coal used in metallurgy. The third group is mines, which are subject to privatization not only as coal mining enterprises, but also as integral property complexes for the purpose of re-profiling.
