Metinvest Mining and Metallurgical Group, including its associates and joint ventures, increased its payments of taxes and duties to the budgets of all levels in Ukraine by 1.7 times year-on-year to UAH 4.2 billion in January-March this year.
According to the company’s press release on Monday, the largest deductions include subsoil use fees, which increased 7.5 times year-on-year to UAH 1.3 billion compared to Q1 2023. The Group also increased its personal income tax payments by 22% to UAH 791 million. In addition, Metinvest transferred UAH 870 million of unified social tax to the budget, which is 20% higher than in Q1 2023.
At the same time, Metinvest’s Ukrainian enterprises paid UAH 407 million in income tax in January-March 2024. Land payments increased by 8% year-on-year to UAH 312 million, and environmental tax by 34% to UAH 182 million.
Yuriy Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest, noted that despite the war in Ukraine and many unfavorable business factors, the Group managed to achieve positive dynamics in payments.
“This is the result of our team’s efforts to improve efficiency in all areas and to adjust the company to the new environment. As the largest taxpayer in the industry, we realize that the economy of the frontline regions and the entire country, as well as the ability to support the army and Ukrainians, depend on our stable operation. And we will do everything to continue to overcome all the challenges of wartime on the way to victory,” the top manager emphasized.
As reported, in 2023, Metinvest paid UAH 14.6 billion in taxes to the Ukrainian budget.
“Metinvest is a vertically integrated group of steel and mining companies. The Group’s enterprises are mainly located in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovs’k regions.
The main shareholders of the holding are SCM Group (71.24%) and Smart Holding (23.76%), which jointly manage it.

In 2023, VUSO Insurance Company (Kyiv) collected UAH 2.677 billion in gross premiums, which is 62.6% more than in 2022, the rating agency (RA) Standard Rating reported in information on the confirmation of the company’s financial strength rating at the level of “uaAA” on the national scale.
According to the information on the RA website, in particular, revenues from individuals increased by 48.98% to UAH 1.724 billion during the reporting period, and from reinsurers – by 60.62% to UAH 32.205 million. Thus, the share of individuals in the insurer’s gross written premiums for the twelve months of 2023 amounted to 64.39%, and the share of reinsurers – 1.20%.
Insurance payments sent to reinsurers increased by 19.75% to UAH 204.246 million. The ratio of reinsurers’ participation in insurance premiums decreased by 2.73 p.p. to 7.63%.
Net written premiums for the reporting period increased by 67.57% to UAH 2.473 billion, while earned premiums increased by 75.59% to UAH 2.337 billion.
VUSO paid UAH 972.7 million to its clients in 2023, which is more than twice the amount of insurance payments and reimbursements in 2022. Thus, the level of payments increased by 8.15 percentage points to 36.33%.
At the end of 2023, profit from operating activities increased by 19.34% to UAH 49.904 million, and net profit increased 2.7 times to UAH 44.048 million.
As of December 31, 2023, the company’s assets increased by 71.40% to UAH 1.748 billion, equity by 66.80% to UAH 634.114 million, liabilities by 74.13% to UAH 1.114 billion, and cash and cash equivalents by 26.10% to UAH 552.918 million.
At the same time, RA notes that the growth of the company’s equity was due to an increase in the authorized capital by UAH 187.585 million in the first quarter of 2023. In particular, in May 2023, the issue of ordinary registered shares in the amount of UAH 187.585 million was registered, which is 100% of the authorized capital of PJSIC ASKA, and in July 2023, the conversion of PJSIC ASKA shares into shares of VUSO Insurance Company was completed.
As reported, the decision to merge ASKA with VUSO and to continue working under a single brand was made during the general meeting of both insurance companies in March 2023, and the acquisition was announced by VUSO shareholders in August 2022.
The RA also reports that as of the beginning of 2024, the company had a sufficient level of capitalization (56.92%) and a good level of cash coverage of liabilities (49.63%). The company has formed a portfolio of investments in domestic government bonds in the amount of UAH 204.037 million, which increased the level of the insurer’s liquid assets, which together covered 67.95% of the company’s liabilities. In addition, the balance of funds in the centralized insurance reserve funds (MTIBU) as of the reporting date amounted to UAH 293.449 million, including UAH 219.978 million of additional guarantee premiums for the company’s liquidity.
VUSO was founded in 2001. The company holds 50 licenses: 34 – for voluntary and 16 – for compulsory types of insurance, and is represented in all regions of Ukraine. It is a member of MTIBU and USIF, a party to the Direct Claims Settlement Agreement and a member of the Nuclear Insurance Pool.
In 2023, the largest alcohol producers increased their income tax payments by 1.7 times compared to 2022, and their income tax efficiency increased from 1.4% in 2022 to 2.0% in 2023, said Danylo Hetmantsev, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy.
“Measures to de-shadow the alcoholic beverage market, despite the fierce resistance of black market areas (the so-called ‘business defenders’ and ‘sofa experts’), are yielding positive results in the form of budget revenues,” he wrote on Telegram.
The committee chairman named National Vodka Company LLC (Bayadera Group), LVN Limited LLC (TM Nemiroff), Lviv Distillery, and Shustov-Spirt ALC as the leaders in terms of tax efficiency.
According to him, Global Spirit Group has significantly improved its VAT tax efficiency from 3.5% in 2022 to 6.1% in 2023 and 9.4% in 2 months of 2024.
According to Mr. Hetmantsev, the largest alcohol producers have improved their performance not only in terms of income tax, but also in terms of VAT. For two months of this year, VAT payable has already been declared by 28.1% more than in the same period last year.
At the same time, the VAT tax efficiency increased to 6.2% in two months of 2024 from 4.9% in two months of 2023. At the same time, this figure increased by 5.2% compared to 2023.
In January-February 2024, TAS Insurance Group (Kyiv) collected UAH 669.95 million in insurance payments, which is 37.7% more than in the same period last year, according to the insurer’s website.
Thus, CASCO sales increased by 22% to UAH 121.81 million in insurance premiums, which is 18.18% of the company’s fees in January-February.
MTPL accounted for 29.26% of the total volume, or UAH 196.04 million (+34.7%), Green Card – 26.34%, or UAH 176.43 million (+73.3%), VHI – 16.24%, or UAH 108.78 million (+22.2%).
Under property insurance contracts, TAS Group has raised UAH 16.7 million in insurance premiums over the past two months, which is 41.5% more than in January-February last year.
Under other insurance contracts, the company collected UAH 50.18 million in premiums during the reporting period (+30.9%).
As reported, in January-February 2024, the company paid UAH 308.81 million under the concluded insurance contracts, which is 57.9% more than the company’s indemnities for the same two months of the previous year.

In January-February 2024, TAS Insurance Group (Kyiv) paid UAH 308.81 million under the concluded insurance contracts, which is 57.9% more than the company’s claims for the same two months last year.
According to the insurer’s website, the company’s payments under hull insurance contracts reached UAH 88.43 million, which is 28.64% of the total amount of the insurer’s payments and 38% higher than the corresponding figure for the same period in 2023.
Motor TPL claims increased by 57.7% to UAH 111.05 million, which is equal to 35.96% of the company’s total claims for the reporting period. At the same time, the share of “Green Card” in the insurer’s claims portfolio in January-February amounted to 16.82% or UAH 51.93 million (+49.3%).
VHI payments increased 2.3 times to UAH 47.7 million (15.45% of total claims).
In January-February, the company paid UAH 2.12 million under property insurance contracts and UAH 7.58 million under other insurance contracts.

In February 2024, TAS Insurance Group (Kyiv) paid UAH 148.73 million under the concluded insurance contracts, which is 55.2% more than the company’s claims in February last year.
According to the insurer’s website, 31.99%, or UAH 47.58 million, was accounted for by motor hull insurance, which is 31.3% more than in the same period in 2023, 35.57%, or UAH 52.9 million, by MTPL, which is 49.5% more.
Payments under the Green Card increased by 79.9% to UAH 20.45 million, which is equal to 13.75% of the total amount of payments made by the insurer for the month.
At the same time, the company paid UAH 22.65 million under voluntary health insurance contracts in February, which is 15.23% of the company’s total payments for the month and 2.21 times higher than the corresponding figure for the same period in 2023.
Last month, TAS Group paid UAH 1.02 million under the concluded property insurance contracts. The volume of payments made by the insurer under other insurance contracts in the reporting period amounted to UAH 4.13 million.
