Ukraine’s retail trade turnover in January-September 2023 increased by 11.6% in comparable prices compared to the same period in 2022, the State Statistics Service (Ukrstat) reported.
According to the statistics agency, in September this year, retail turnover increased by 19.4% compared to September last year, which is less than in August, when it was 23.8%.
The State Statistics Service specifies that the turnover of retail trade enterprises (legal entities) in the first nine months of 2023 increased by 8.3% in comparative prices compared to the same period in 2022.
In particular, in September 2023, the growth was 14.9% compared to 19.3% in August.
According to the State Statistics Service, in nominal terms, Ukraine’s retail trade turnover amounted to UAH 1291.1 billion in January-September 2023, and retail trade enterprises’ turnover amounted to UAH 869.9 billion.
The State Statistics Service reminds that the data excludes the territories temporarily occupied by Russia and part of the territories where hostilities are (were) conducted.
As reported, in 2022, retail turnover in Ukraine fell by 21.4%.

The retail trade turnover of Ukraine in April 2021 compared to the same month in 2020 in comparable prices increased 34.3%, while in March it grew by 13.1%, the State Statistics Service has reported.
According to the State Statistics Service, in April compared to March 2021, retail turnover decreased 6.5%.
In January-April 2021, compared to the same reporting period in 2020, retail trade turnover grew by 14%.
The largest growth in retail trade turnover of enterprises (legal entities and individual entrepreneurs) in the first four months of 2021 was recorded in Chernivtsi (by 26.9%), Ternopil (by 25.2%), Zakarpattia (by 22.1%), Kyiv (by 20.1%), Vinnytsia (19.5%), Lviv (16.7%), Khmelnytsky (16.2%), Ivano-Frankivsk (16%), Luhansk (15.9%), Chernihiv and Zhytomyr (15.2%) regions.
Ukraine’s retail trade turnover, excluding the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as Donbas, in January-May 2018 increased by 6.1% in comparable prices in comparison with January-May 2017, the State Statistics Service has said.
According to its data, in May 2018 compared to April of the current year retail trade turnover increased by 2.7%, compared to May 2017 it grew by 5.2%.
The highest growth in retail trade turnover in January-May 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 was observed in Luhansk (24.6%), Poltava (10.2%), Vinnytsia (9.8%), Donetsk (9.7%), Kyiv (8.7%), Zakarpattia (8.6%) and Ternopil (8.5%) regions.
In nominal terms, retail trade turnover for January-May of this year amounted to UAH 283.309 billion.
The leaders in terms of absolute indicators of retail trade turnover for the reporting period were Kyiv city (UAH 69.926 billion), Dnipropetrovsk (UAH 32.556 billion), Kharkiv (UAH 28.172 billion), Odesa (UAH 25.65 billion), Kyiv (UAH 24.646 billion), Lviv (UAH 21.788 billion), and Zaporizhia regions (UAH 14.902 billion).
According to statistics, retail trade turnover in Donetsk region in January-May 2018 in comparison with January-April 2017 increased by 9.7% (to UAH 10.555 billion), Luhansk region by 24.6% (to UAH 3.104 billion).
The service said the turnover of retail trade enterprises in May 2018 compared to May 2017 increased by 4.9%, and compared to April 2018 by 2.3%, amounting to UAH 54.294 billion.
The wholesale turnover of enterprises for the first five months of 2018 rose by 4.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2017, to UAH 846.382 billion.
As reported, retail trade turnover in Ukraine in 2017 grew by 8.8% and amounted to UAH 816.554 billion.
Ukraine’s retail trade turnover, excluding the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, Sevastopol and Donbas, grew by 7.6% in comparable prices in January-March 2018 (Q1) year-over-year, the State Statistics Service said on Friday. In particular, retail trade turnover in March-2018 increased by 13.1% compared to February this year and by 7.6% compared to March 2017, it said.
The largest growth in retail trade turnover in January-March 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 was observed in Vinnytsia region (12.3%), Zakarpattia (11.8%), Mykolaiv (10.8%), Sumy (9. 9%), Lviv (9.7%), Chernihiv (9.6%), Cherkasy (9.4%), Odesa (9.2%), and Kherson (8%) regions.
