The Zakarpattia Regional State Administration (RSA) is considering the allocation of a land plot for the construction of a river port and multimodal terminal on the banks of the Tisa River.
This was reported on the RSA’s Facebook page, citing the deputy head of the administration, Myroslav Biletsky.
Prospects for the project were discussed during a meeting with the relevant departments of the Tisza water resources management basin and the State Border Guard Service.
The project can become a component in the organization of international transportation on the Tisza with access to large navigable rivers.
“The river port and multimodal terminal will be the first facilities of this type in Zakarpattia. Its importance for international transportation for the country and our region, in particular, is difficult to overestimate. We are studying the documentary base, problematic issues, communicating with all interested structures to develop a strategy for the fastest possible implementation of the project,” Biletsky said in a statement.
The construction of the river port and multimodal terminal on the banks of the Tisza was initiated by the River Ports Administration. It applied to the regional state administration with a request to allocate a land plot for the facility.
JSC Kyiv River Port plans to build a class A logistic complex with a cargo area and a terminal for a cement base, the port has reported on its website. In addition, the port plans to focus on the development of rail and container traffic; as well as actively develop trade relations and transportation with Belarus.
The logistics complex with a cargo area will occupy an area of 10,000 square meters, of which 2,000 square meters will be reserved for office space.
The railway infrastructure is planned to be used, first of all, for work with sand, crushed stone, metal and cement.
In addition, the company said that, since 2014, the company has provided over UAH 40 million for the development of infrastructure.
“A customs complex with an international checkpoint was built, office buildings, workshops and warehouses were reconstructed and repaired, the territory was cleared of garbage and modern security equipment was installed. The railway line was fully restored and weight complexes were installed,” the company said.
The ships also installed new navigation equipment and modern security equipment, an icebreaking tug and a floating crane were purchased.
“Today, the Kyiv River Port is successfully developing in eight directions, starting with cargo handling services and ending with passenger transportation,” the company said.
Belarus is considering the possibility of building a river port on the Dnipro River in Gomel region near the border with Ukraine in order to use river-sea vessels to put out to the Black Sea. The Turkish investor Derin Shipping & Trading Co. might be involved in the project.
According to the state agency BelTA, Ambassador of Belarus to Turkey Andrei Savinykh states that the implementation of the project “will turn Belarus into a maritime state.” The project could be implemented by building a port terminal in the village of Nizhniye Zhary (Gomel region).
“Our Turkish partners are considering the possibility of building a port in Nizhniye Zhary, which will turn Belarus into a maritime state,” the official told journalists in Gomel during the visit of the Turkish delegation to the regional center.
It is assumed that the main volume of cargo turnover will be provided by oil products (Mozyr Oil Refinery is located near Gomel) and Petrikovsky GOK being under construction in Gomel region (the project of Belaruskali, the capacity is about 2 million tonnes of potassium chloride per year).
