UKRAINIAN SEAPORTS SEES 16% RISE IN CARGO HANDLING

Ukrainian seaports in January-July 2019 handled 85.499 million tonnes of cargo, which is 15.8% more than a year ago. The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said on its website that in January-July the volume of transshipment of bread cargos totaled 28.313 million tonnes, which is 34.8% more than a year ago.
Transshipment of ore increased 29.5%, to 20.153 million tonnes, and oil – 12.3%, to 3.586 million tonnes.
According to authority, the total volume of transshipment of imported chemical and mineral fertilizers for the period amounted to 670,190 tonnes, which is 14.5% higher than the same indicator last year.
Over the period, the volume of exports increased 22.3% to 65.547 million tonnes, while imports 4.4%, to 13.247 million tonnes, while transit decreased 11.2%, to 5.687 million tonnes.
Container handling in January-July 2019 increased 20%, to 545,800 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit).
As reported, in 2018, sea ports of Ukraine handled more than 135 million tonnes of cargo, which is 2.4 million tonnes more than in 2017.

SEAPORTS OF UKRAINE BOOS FREIGHT HANDLING BY 13% IN JAN-JUNE

Seaports of Ukraine in January-June 2019 handled 72.213 million tonnes of freight, which was 13.2% up year-over-year.
In January-June this year, grain transshipments totaled almost 24.5 million tonnes, which was 34.7% more than over the same period last year, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) said on its website.
Handling of ore increased by 26.6% to almost 16.5 million tonnes. Also, transshipments of vegetable oil saw a 12.4% increase in the first half of 2019, to 3.167 million tonnes.
According to the USPA, the total volume of transshipments of imported chemical and mineral fertilizers over the six months of the year was over 562,000 tonnes, which was 16.9% higher than the same indicator of the previous year.
During this period, exports increased by almost 9.4 million tonnes (20.3% up) year-over-year and imports grew by almost 11 million tonnes (by 0.4% up), while transit shipments decreased by almost 5 million tonnes (14.9%).
Container handling in January-June 2019 increased by 18.4% to 463,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).
In 2018, Ukraine’s seaports handled over 135 million tonnes of freight, which was 2.4 million tonnes up on 2017.

The seaports of Ukraine in January-April 2019 handled 48.8 million tonnes of cargo, which is 5 million tonnes, or 12% more compared to the same period of 2018.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, most of all, the positive dynamics of increase in transshipment was influenced by exports, which during the reporting period grew by 20% compared to the same period last year, whereas imports and transit decreased by 5% and 18.5% respectively.
Grain handling grew by almost one-third or 4.4 million tonnes compared to January-April 2018, to 18 million tonnes. Transshipment of ore rose by more than a quarter, to more than 10.5 million tonnes.
The growth trend in container handling is also kept: in the first four months of 2019, compared to the same period of 2018, Ukrainian seaports transshipped 47,800 TEU more (18.6% up).

SEAPORTS OF UKRAINE HANDLE 37 MLN TONNES OF CARGO IN Q1 2019

Seaports of Ukraine in January-March 2019 handled 36.96 million tonnes of cargo, which is 12.43% more compared to the same period of 2018.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, the products of the agro-industrial complex, the mining and smelting complex, container cargoes, as well as fertilizers contributed to the upward dynamics in transshipment.
According to the authority, in January-March, the volume of transshipment of grain cargo amounted to more than 13.7 million tonnes, which is 33.5% more than the same period last year. Ore transshipment increased by more than 30% (7.8 million tonnes against almost 6 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2018). Almost 6% growth was for vegetable oil – about 1.6 million tonnes were already handled.
The growth trend in container cargo handling continues: in the first quarter of 2019, 223,500 TEU were handled, which is more than 14% higher than the same period last year.
“Since the beginning of the sowing campaign, the increase in imports of chemical and mineral fertilizers, both packaged and bulk ones, continues. The total volume of their transshipment in the first quarter of 2019 amounted to almost 640,000 tonnes, which more than twice bigger than the same figure of last year”, the authority said.
As in the first quarter of 2018, the growth in total transshipment volumes took place primarily thanks to exports, which increased by almost 5 million tonnes (a rise of 20.1%), while imports and transit, on the contrary, decreased by 6.1% and 17.2%, respectively.
In January-March, the Yuzhny port became the absolute leader in terms of cargo handling volumes – 11.6 million tonnes, which is almost 19% more than in the same period of 2018. The figure of 8 million tonnes was exceeded by the port of Mykolaiv: in general, the transshipment volume here reached 8.12 million tonnes, which is more than 26% more than the same period last year. Over three months, the ports of Chornomorsk and Odesa handled over 6 million tonnes of cargo: 6.37 million tonnes and 6.22 million tonnes, respectively.
Since the beginning of 2019, Ukrainian seaports handled 2,838 vessels, which are 15 units less than in January-March 2018.
Some 1,370 passengers used services of water transport in the ports over the period (33% more than a year ago).

UKRAINIAN SEAPORTS SEE 12.5% RISE IN FREIGHT HANDLING

Ukrainian seaports in January and February 2019 handled 23.129 million tonnes of cargo, which is 12.53% more than a year ago.
The main growth drivers were products of agricultural and metallurgical sectors, containerized cargo, and fertilizers, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said on its website.
According to the authority, in January-February 2019, grain cargo handling was almost 8.5 million tonnes, which is 35.5% more than a year ago. Ore transshipment grew by 25.8%, to 4.6 million tonnes. Vegetable oil handling rose by almost 16%, to over 1 million tonnes. The upward trend for handling containerized cargo is seen: ports handled 20,500 TEU more compared with January-February 2018, the authority said.
Total amount of imported chemical and mineral fertilizers handling over the period came to over 350,000 tonnes, which more than twice more than a year ago.
Exported cargo handling grew by 21.5%, to over 3.2 million tonnes, while imported and transit cargo handling fell by 5% and 24% respectively.
Since the beginning of 2019, Ukrainian seaports handled 1,726 vessels, which are 124 units or 6.7% less than in January and February 2018.
Some 3,159 passengers used services of water transport in the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk over the period.
