SEAPORTS OF UKRAINE BOOS FREIGHT HANDLING BY 13% IN JAN-JUNE

Seaports of Ukraine in January-June 2019 handled 72.213 million tonnes of freight, which was 13.2% up year-over-year.
In January-June this year, grain transshipments totaled almost 24.5 million tonnes, which was 34.7% more than over the same period last year, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) said on its website.
Handling of ore increased by 26.6% to almost 16.5 million tonnes. Also, transshipments of vegetable oil saw a 12.4% increase in the first half of 2019, to 3.167 million tonnes.
According to the USPA, the total volume of transshipments of imported chemical and mineral fertilizers over the six months of the year was over 562,000 tonnes, which was 16.9% higher than the same indicator of the previous year.
During this period, exports increased by almost 9.4 million tonnes (20.3% up) year-over-year and imports grew by almost 11 million tonnes (by 0.4% up), while transit shipments decreased by almost 5 million tonnes (14.9%).
Container handling in January-June 2019 increased by 18.4% to 463,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).
In 2018, Ukraine’s seaports handled over 135 million tonnes of freight, which was 2.4 million tonnes up on 2017.

ODESA SEAPORT BOOSTS FREIGHT HANDLING BY 12%

The Odesa seaport handled 12.084 million tonnes of freight in January-June 2019, which was 12.3% up year-over-year. During this period the port increased the handling of freight for export by 14.6%, to 9.089 million tonnes, for import by 6.6%, to 2.253 million tonnes, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said. The transshipment of coastal freight tripled, to 85,690 tonnes At the same time, transshipment of transit freight decreased by 4.5%, to 655,430 tonnes.
In January-June 2019, the handling of bulk cargo at the Odesa seaport grew by 4.1%, to 799,380 tonnes, dry cargo by 20.5%, to 4.998 million tonnes, packaged cargo by 7.6%, to 6.286 million tonnes.
Container handling at the Odesa seaport in January-June 2019 totaled to 302,304 TEU (an increase by 6.4%).

CHORNOMORSK SEAPORT INCREASES FREIGHT HANDLING BY 23% IN Q1

Chornomorsk seaport (Odesa region) in January-March 2019 increased cargo handling by 23.42% compared to the same period of 2018, to 6.366 million tonnes.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, during this period the port increased the handling of exported cargo by 37.25%, to 5.227 million tonnes, reduced the handling of imported cargo by 20.37%, to 851,150 tonnes and transit freight by 1.43%, to 277,000 tonnes, and also transshipped 11,240 tonnes of cabotage cargo.
In January-March 2019, liquid cargo handling at the port decreased by 4.17%, to 379,250 tonnes, dry bulk cargo handling increased by 31.34%, to 4.479 million tonnes, that of packaged goods by 11.51%, to 1.508 million tonnes.
Container handling in the first three months of this year amounted to 30,817 TEU (a decrease of 2.7%).

ODESA SEAPORT SEES 5% RISE IN FREIGHT HANDLING IN Q1 2019

Odesa seaport in January-March 2019 transshipped 6.22 million tonnes of freight, which is 5.05% more than a year ago.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, during this period the port increased the handling of exported cargo by 11.33%, to 4.831 million tonnes, decreased the handling of imported cargo by 14.4%, to 1.038 million tonnes, transit cargo handling fell by 3.95%, to 344,360 tonnes, and the port increased handling of coastal freight by 37.84%, to 6,570 tonnes.
According to the types of cargo, the port in January-March 2019 decreased the transshipment of liquid cargo by 13.31%, to 390,750 tonnes, increased the transshipment of dry bulk cargo by 9.49%, to 2.68 million tonnes, and increased the transshipment of packaged goods by 4.19%, to 3.149 million tonnes.
Container handling amounted to 140,650 TEU (a fall of 4.1% year-over-year).
Odesa port is located on an area of 109.5 hectares.
The port accepts vessels with lengths of up to 270 meters and maximum draughts of 13 meters. The total length of the port’s berths exceeds 8 kilometers.

UKRAINIAN SEAPORTS SEE 12.5% RISE IN FREIGHT HANDLING

Ukrainian seaports in January and February 2019 handled 23.129 million tonnes of cargo, which is 12.53% more than a year ago.
The main growth drivers were products of agricultural and metallurgical sectors, containerized cargo, and fertilizers, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said on its website.
According to the authority, in January-February 2019, grain cargo handling was almost 8.5 million tonnes, which is 35.5% more than a year ago. Ore transshipment grew by 25.8%, to 4.6 million tonnes. Vegetable oil handling rose by almost 16%, to over 1 million tonnes. The upward trend for handling containerized cargo is seen: ports handled 20,500 TEU more compared with January-February 2018, the authority said.
Total amount of imported chemical and mineral fertilizers handling over the period came to over 350,000 tonnes, which more than twice more than a year ago.
Exported cargo handling grew by 21.5%, to over 3.2 million tonnes, while imported and transit cargo handling fell by 5% and 24% respectively.
Since the beginning of 2019, Ukrainian seaports handled 1,726 vessels, which are 124 units or 6.7% less than in January and February 2018.
Some 3,159 passengers used services of water transport in the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk over the period.

UKRAINIAN SEAPORTS SLIGHTLY INCREASE FREIGHT HANDLING IN 2018

Freight handling at Ukrainian seaports in January-March 2018 totaled 32.8 million tonnes, which is 1.1% more than a year ago, according to tentative data from the Ukrainian Sea Port Authority. According to its data, the volume of transshipment of imported cargo increased by 30% and amounted to 5.6 million tonnes. Handling of imported coal grew by 24.1%, to 1.4 million tonnes, ores by 20.7%, to 1.9 million tonnes, crude oil transshipment grew by 51%, to 544,000 tonnes.
The volume of transshipment of exported cargo decreased 7.4%, to 23.8 million tonnes. Handling of exported ferrous metals grew by 17%, to 4.2 million tonnes.
Handling of transit freights rose by 38.4%, to 3.2 million tonnes.
In general, the seaports of Ukraine processed 2,853 vessels in January-March 2018, which is 345 vessels, or 9.7% more compared to the same period in 2017.
