New registrations of commercial vehicles (trucks and special vehicles) in August 2024 increased by 13% compared to the same month in 2023 – up to 1,083 units, which is also 13% more than in July this year, Ukravtoprom reported in its Telegram channel.
As reported with reference to the association’s data, the demand for these cars has shown a monthly increase since the beginning of this year, but in July it turned into negative dynamics, decreasing by 2% by July 2023 and by 20% by June 2024.
According to the association, Renault retained its market leadership in August with 282 units (in August 2013 it was the leader with 191 units), MAN took second place with 102 units (in August last year it was in ninth place with 42 units), and Ford took third place with 96 units (fifth place with 72 units).
Also in the top five are Citroen (72 units) and Scania (58 units), which were 10th (39 units) and second (98 units) respectively in August last year and third and second respectively in July this year.
According to Ukravtoprom, almost 8.3 thousand new vehicles were added to the Ukrainian truck and special vehicle fleet from January to August, 16% more than in the previous year.
At the same time, an analysis of the segment of trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tons by the information and analysis group AUTO-Consulting showed an increase of almost 15% to 480 units in August.
“While the passenger car market was in turmoil in August due to rumors of a 15% military tax, this factor had no impact on the truck segment,” the group said in a statement on its website.
The light segment also recorded a good increase, while truck sales fell slightly (-1%).
“Against this background, European companies began to actively participate in the development of specialized equipment at Ukrainian enterprises, which led to the emergence of new models,” the report states.
State-owned companies, which are increasingly switching to European chassis, actively rejected Russian equipment, the analysts said.
According to AUTO-Consulting, MAN became the market leader in August with a market share of 17%, Scania was in second place with 12%, and Ford, which is developing cooperation with Ukrainian manufacturers of bodies, took third place. Volvo and Renault dealers were active in August, while JAC and Isuzu were the leaders in terms of growth.

At the same time, the segment of trucks over 3.5 tons grew by 56.5% to 4,853 units, according to AUTO-Consulting.
Initial registrations of new passenger cars in June 2024 decreased by 8% compared to the same month in 2023 – to 5.2 thousand units, Ukravtoprom reports on its Telegram channel.
“For the first time this year, the demand for new cars showed a negative trend year-on-year,” the association said on Monday.
According to its data, compared to May 2024, consumer activity in the car market decreased by 7%.
Toyota retains market leadership (853 units) with a 20% drop in sales by June 2023. For the first time, BMW took second place with 545 cars registered (compared to 5th place in the June-2023 ranking and 319 cars registered). Renault dropped to third place from second in June last year and May this year – 487 units (29% less than in June 2023). Next are Skoda (278 units) and VW (269 units).
The bestseller of the month was the Renault Duster crossover (displacing the May leader Toyota RAV4), which has 447 registrations.
According to the Association, in general, in the first half of this year, more than 32.8 thousand new passenger cars were registered in Ukraine, which is 21% more than in the same period in 2023.
Earlier it was reported that experts attribute the stagnation in the new passenger car market primarily to the situation with electricity and the rise in the dollar.
As reported with reference to Ukravtoprom data, in 2023, the first registrations of new passenger cars in Ukraine increased by 60.6% compared to 2022 – to almost 61 thousand units.
Registrations of new commercial vehicles (trucks and special vehicles) in May 2024 increased by 18% compared to the same month in 2023 – up to 1127 units, which is also 7% more than in April, Ukravtoprom reports in its telegram channel.
According to the report, the top five brands in the new commercial vehicle market last month were Renault – 305 units, Citroen – 115 units, MAN – 92 units, Ford – 86 units, and Iveco – 53 units. At the same time, the top five did not include Scania, which ranked second in April.
As reported with reference to Ukravtoprom data, in May last year, 955 trucks and special vehicles were sold in Ukraine, compared to 460 in the same month in 2022. The top five leaders were Renault (327 units), Volkswagen (81 units), Mercedes-Benz (66 units), Citroen (66 units), and Peugeot (52 units).
According to the association, in January-May 2024, more than 5 thousand new vehicles joined the Ukrainian fleet of trucks and special vehicles, which is 22% more than in the same period last year.
At the same time, AUTO-Consulting, an information and analytical group, analyzing the segment of trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tons, noted on its website that in May it sent a positive signal – sales increased by 19% by May 2023, to more than 400 units, which made it possible to move to a small (5%) increase in this market segment in five months.
At the same time, the leader has changed – instead of Scania (as of April), it is MAN with a 21% increase in sales, and Volvo, which increased sales by 71%, took second place. Ford Trucks came in third.
Isuzu, as well as a number of Chinese brands, started to increase sales: Howo, DongFeng, JAC.
AUTO-Consulting also analyzed sales in the business car segment, which has always been a litmus test of sentiment in the economically active part of society.
Thus, according to experts, in May, the volume of deliveries of LCVs (gross vehicle weight up to 3.5 tons) decreased by 2.9% compared to the same month last year, but in January-May the market still shows a 22% increase.
It is noted that there is no sharp increase in demand for electric vans – only six units were purchased in May (compared to two in May 2023), but this is less than 1% of the new LCV market.
Renault became the segment leader with a 38% share.
As reported, in 2023, according to Ukravtoprom, registrations of new commercial vehicles in Ukraine increased by 65% compared to 2022 – to 11.3 thousand units. At the same time, the segment of trucks over 3.5 tons, according to AUTO-Consulting, increased by 56.5% – to 4853 units.
Initial registrations of new buses (including minibuses) in Ukraine in March 2024 decreased by 17%, or 16 units, compared to March last year, to 78 units, according to statistics released by Ukravtoprom.
At the same time, the demand for buses decreased by 27.8%, or 30 vehicles, compared to February 2014.
According to the statistics, the Ukrainian Ataman retained its leadership in the market with 21 buses registered compared to 37 in March 2013. Etalon buses took the second place, with registrations increasing to 20 vehicles compared to seven in March 2023. But compared to February this year, their sales fell by a third.
Ford took third place, as it did a year earlier, with 19 buses (two less),
Volkswagen took fourth place with 10 vehicles (not registered in March 2023), and Fiat rounded out the top five with three vehicles.
Turkish buses Temsa were not registered in March (a year earlier – one car). This brand reportedly planned to significantly strengthen its position in Ukraine.
Thus, in January-March 2024, the initial registrations of buses in Ukraine decreased by 27.6% compared to the same period in 2023 – to 305 units.
“Ukravtoprom also reports that the share of new buses in the Ukrainian bus market in March was 53%, and taking into account the old ones, the bus fleet (including minibuses) amounted to 146 units, which is 18% less than in March 2023 and 19% less than in February this year.
The three leaders in the used car segment were Mercedes-Benz – 22 units; Volvo – 11 units; and Van Hool – 9 units.
In 2023, the total initial registrations of new buses of all classes in Ukraine amounted to 1701 units, which is 86% more than in 2022.
Ukrainian car fleet in February was replenished with 17.8 thousand used cars imported from abroad, which is one third more than in the same month of 2023, Ukravtoprom reported in its Telegram channel.
As reported, new passenger cars for the same month, according to the association, registered 5.7 thousand (an increase of 51%).
The largest share in the segment of used foreign cars last month still belonged to gasoline cars – 48%. Then come: diesel cars – 27%; electric cars – 16%; cars with gasoline – 5%; hybrids – 4%.
The leader among imported “second hand” remains Volkswagen Golf – 963 registrations.
The top 10 most popular models also include: Renault Megane – 806 units; Skoda Octavia – 688 units; Volkswagen Passat – 572 units; Volkswagen Tiguan – 451 units; Nissan Leaf – 416 units; Nissan Rogue – 414 units; Audi Q5 – 409 units; Tesla Model 3 – 380 units and Audi A4 – 349 units.
The average age of used cars, transferred to Ukrainian license plates in February, is 9.4 years (in January of this year – 9.8 years).
In total, in January-February, 34.5 thousand used cars imported from abroad passed the first registration in Ukraine – 38% more than in the same period of 2023.
As reported, in February-2023 demand for used used foreign cars in Ukraine decreased by 54% to February-2022 – to 13.5 thousand units, and the leader was Renault Megan with 1049 cars.
For the whole last year registrations of such cars decreased by 45% against the previous year – to 214.4 thousand units.
In January, almost 16.7 thousand used cars imported from abroad joined the Ukrainian car fleet, which is 45% more than in the same month of 2023, Ukravtoprom reported on its telegram channel.
According to the association, almost 4.4 thousand new passenger cars were registered in January 2024 (an increase of 47%).
The largest share in the segment of used foreign cars last month, as before, belonged to gasoline cars – 46%. This is followed by diesel cars – 29%; electric cars – 16%; cars with LPG – 5%; hybrids – 4%.
Volkswagen Golf remains the leader in registrations among imported second-hand cars with 948 registrations.
The top ten most popular models also include: Renault Megane – 759 units; Skoda Octavia – 669 units; Volkswagen Passat – 599 units; Volkswagen Tiguan – 396 units; Nissan Leaf – 355 units; Audi A4 – 347 units; Audi Q5 – 334 units; Nissan Rogue – 330 units and Tesla Model 3 – 309 units.
The average age of used cars that switched to Ukrainian license plates in January is 9.8 years.

For the whole of last year, registrations of such cars decreased by 45% year-on-year to 214.4 thousand units.
