Ukroliya LLC (Chernechy Yar, Poltava region) on August 10 agreed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) that the company will raise a loan of EUR 16 million to finance its capital expenditures, working capital requirements, as well as to restructure existing debt, according to a press release from the EBRD.
“The main objective of the project is to support the company’s growth plans and its strategy to expand further in more profitable, premium (organic and high-oleic) and value-added (bottled and refined) sunflower oil sub-segments,” the bank said in the press release.
In addition, as part of the project, Ukroliya, will set up an accredited in-house training centre, in collaboration with local education partners, which will support the company in meeting its skills needs and provide training opportunities for people in Poltava region.
According to the EBRD, the project will support modernisation of the company’s production facilities, including the installation of a biomass boiler and processes to reduce oil content in wastes and reprocess materials for filtering, as well as the increase in production of organic vegetable oil and purchases of organic oilseeds.
The EBRD said that the total cost of this project is EUR 16 million, of which Ukroliya will receive the total required amount.
The press release does not contain other details of the transaction.
Ukroliya LLC was founded in 2001. It is engaged in the production and sale of packaged and bulk sunflower oil, sunflower cake, and husk. Its production facilities are located in the townships of Dykanka and Zinkiv (both in Poltava region).
Ukroliya (Poltava region) in January 2019 shipped a first batch of organic sunflower oil in the amount of 400 tonnes to the United States.
“In January 2019, we shipped the first batch of our organic oil of 400 tonnes to the United States,” PR Manager of Ukroliya Svitlana Lutsenko said at the third International Congress Organic Ukraine 2019, which took in Odesa on March 14 and March 15.
According to her, in 2018, the company exported 500 tonnes of classic organic oil, 400 tonnes of high oleic oil and 1,500 tonnes of organic sunflower oil cake.
“The projected volume of deliveries in 2019: 360 tonnes per month of organic sunflower high oleic oil; 100 tonnes per month of organic classical sunflower oil; 460 tonnes per month of organic sunflower oil cake,” Lutsenko said.

The company plans to process 18,000 tonnes of sunflower, 50,000 tonnes of soybeans a year, produce 7,020 tonnes of organic sunflower oil, 6,750 tonnes of organic soybean oil, 7,100 tonnes of cake, and 3,000 tonnes of sunflower husk.

Ukroliya (Poltava region) has certified organic products in accordance with the USDA Organic standard of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. According to a company press release, this certificate opens up the prospect of supplying organic vegetable oil to the United States market for the company. The USDA Organic/NOP certificate covers all aspects of production, processing, transportation and sale of organic products.
Earlier, the company certified its products according to the organic products standard of the European Union and the Swiss standard BioSuisse.

Ukroliya (Poltava region) is preparing first batches of organic unrefined oil (around 500 tonnes) for exporting them to the Netherlands, Lithuania, France and Switzerland. “So far all our organic products are exported,” Head of the Ukroliya Organic Project, Head of the raw materials supply department of Ukroliya LLC exporting Maksym Turko said on the sidelines of the second international congress Organic Ukraine 2018. According to him, the plant Ukroliya Organic in the near future will launch a line for packaging of organic oil, which will be sold in Ukraine.
“The products, which will soon appear on the shelves of Ukraine’s retail networks, we will be packed under the Garna Organic trademark,” Turko said.

The company said that its share of the Ukrainian bottled sunflower oil is around 15%. Ukroliya exports products to over 40 countries. According to the unified register of legal entities and private entrepreneurs, the ultimate beneficiaries of the company are Bohdan Yesypov, Vadym Shvachka and Yuriy Shevchenko
