UKRAINE IN TALKS WITH FOREIGN INVESTORS ON BUILDING SOLID WASTE TREATMENT PLANTS

Deputy Head of the President’s Office Yulia Svyrydenko notes that all local communities in Ukraine by the end of this year must create regional plans for solid household waste treatment, which was decided at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.
According to the website of the President’s Office, at a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Svyrydenko said that negotiations are now underway with representatives of Scandinavian countries, which are leading in the construction of modern waste processing plants. At the same time, according to her, investors should receive market tariffs and transparent cooperation with local authorities.
She noted that 462 million tonnes of waste were generated in Ukraine last year, and 10 million tonnes of solid household waste are accumulated annually. The expert also said that there are 33,000 unauthorized landfills in Ukraine.
Zelensky also noted the importance of the issue of waste treatment, since only 4% of municipal solid waste is sorted in Ukraine at overcrowded landfills and illegal landfills.

FIRST PHASE OF WASTE TREATMENT FACILITY TO BE OPENED IN 2019 – KHARKIV MAYOR

It is planned to launch a first phase of the solid household waste treatment facility with the landfill gas collection and power generation system in 2019, Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes has said.
“Next year we will open the first phase of the process… Waste will be delivered to a new landfill, and the old one will be reclaimed. This is the priority task, as the old landfill is on the verge [of being filled],” Kernes told reporters on Wednesday.
As reported, the waste treatment facility project in Derhachi district of Kharkiv region includes construction of a new modern landfill, installation of a gas collection unit and a building for sorting line with a gross area of 4,000 square meters.
The project is being implemented using funds of the World Bank.

ZELENE MISTO ANNOUNCES TENDER TO BUILD WASTE TREATMENT FACILITY IN LVIV

Lviv-based municipal enterprise Zelene Misto (Green City) has announced a tender to build a solid household waste treatment facility in Lviv.
The respective invitation for prequalification is posted on the website of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which finances the project.
The potential participants should meet the following requirements: to have annual turnover of at least EUR 38 million in the past three years and at least two similar successful projects. These projects should be implemented in the past seven years for the amount of at least EUR 11 million each.
In addition, the potential participants should successfully operate the similar complex built by applicants for at least two years.
The prequalification documents must be duly completed and delivered on or before 17:00 local time on July 9, 2018. The prequalification is to be completed in August. The winner will be selected in October 2018.
The treatment facility with a throughput capacity up to 250,000 tonnes of waste a year should be built in 24 months.
As reported, on June 1, 2018, Lviv city and the EBRD signed an agreement for EUR 35 million to build the solid household waste treatment facility, including a EUR 25 million loan and a UAH 10 million grant.
