Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh has been named the World Athlete of the Year in the category of female athletes competing in non-running disciplines, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) has announced.
“This year was a special one for Yaroslava: she became an Olympic champion; set a world record in the high jump (2.10 m); became a European champion; won the Diamond League final,” the NOC wrote in a telegram.
Jaroslawa Maguchikh has already won the award for the world’s best athlete in the Rising Star category.
This year’s award ceremony took place in Monaco.
Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchikh has been shortlisted for the European Athlete of the Year trophy from European Athletics, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine reports.
“In 2024, Yaroslava Maguchikh set a world record in the high jump (2.10 m), became an Olympic champion, European champion, and winner of the Diamond League,” the ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that the awarding of the winners in the four categories “European Athlete of the Year” among men and women and “Rising Star” among men and women will take place at the Golden Tracks ceremony on October 26 in Skopje (North Macedonia).

High jumper Yaroslava Maguchikh won the gold medal in the women’s high jump at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Yaroslava Maguchikh finished the final with a height of 2.04 meters, beating Australian Nicola Oleslagers in the final.
Maguchikh is a world record holder, Olympic champion at the 2024 Summer Olympics, bronze medalist at the 2020 Summer Olympics, European indoor track and field champion (2021), European junior champion, world and European youth champion, world record holder (2024) and world record holder among juniors (under 20), world (2023) and European (2022, 2024) champion.
Yaroslava Maguchikh from Dnipro, the bronze medalist of the 2020 Olympic Games in high jump, on Sunday set a world record by clearing the bar of 2m 10cm.
At the Diamond League stage in Paris, where the Olympic Games will start soon, she broke the record of Stefka Kostadinova from Bulgaria, which had been held since 1987 – 2 m 9 cm.
Before that, at the same competition, Maguchichykh renewed her personal record of 2m 7cm.
Yaroslava Maguchikh and Iryna Gerashchenko have won another set of awards for the Ukrainian national team at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, which are taking place in Rome, Italy.
In the high jump, Maguchikh won European gold for the second time in a row with a score of 2.01 meters, while Gerashchenko cleared 1.95 meters and won bronze.
