Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he has invited Pope Francis to visit Ukraine.
“In the morning, I spoke with His Holiness Pope Francis about the search for peace for Ukraine, for our state, about the atrocities of the invaders, about humanitarian corridors to the surrounded cities. I thanked His Holiness for a clear and strong position against the war and for prayers for Ukraine. I invited him to visit our state at this crucial time. I believe that we will be able to organize this important visit, which will definitely support every one of us,” Zelensky said in a video address in the early hours of Wednesday.
Zelensky said earlier that he would welcome the Vatican’s role as a mediator to stop human suffering in Ukraine.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will address the Japanese Parliament on Wednesday, Japanese Deputy Prime Minister of Defense Kono Taro said.
“Ukrainian President Zelensky will address Parliament today at 18:00 [11:00 Kyiv time],” Taro wrote on Twitter.
The Times of Israel reports that Zelensky “is set to virtually deliver an address to the Japanese parliament to rally international support for his country’s [Ukraine] fight against Russian invasion.”
“Zelensky’s speech, expected to be about 10 minutes, will be shown in a meeting room at the lower house – the more powerful of Japan’s two-chamber parliament which Prime Minister Fumio Kishida belongs to,” The Federal notes.
As reported, Zelensky made virtual appeals to the U.S. Congress, as well as to the parliaments of European countries, Canada and Israel.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked American actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who helped raise funds to help refugees from Ukraine.
“Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis were among the first to respond to our grief. They have already raised $35 million and are sending it to Flexport and Airbnb to help Ukrainian refugees. Grateful for their support. Impressed by their determination. They inspire the world,” Zelensky said on Twitter.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at a meeting of leaders of states of the Joint Expeditionary Force, said that Ukraine had heard that it would not join NATO member states, the Ukrainian people are beginning to understand this and rely on themselves.
“It is clear that Ukraine is not a member of NATO. We understand this. We are adequate people. For years we have heard about supposedly open doors, but we have already heard that we cannot enter there. And this is true, and we must admit it. I am glad that our people are beginning to understand this and rely on themselves and our partners who help us,” the president said.
He also added that Ukraine currently does not claim to activate Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.
According to the head of state, the Russian invasion of Ukraine destroyed absolutely everything on which security in the region rested.
“I am sure that international security as well. The weight of the organization that we all hoped for, the strength of international conventions have been called into question. And the most powerful alliance in the world, NATO, an alliance that seems [itself], or some of its members, are hypnotized by Russian aggression. We hear now a lot of opinions on the theme of the third world war. That it can start if NATO closes the sky over Ukraine for Russian missiles and aircraft,” Zelensky said, adding that the bombing and destruction of peaceful Ukrainian cities due to the uncovered sky are already taking place.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron and discussed the prospects for peace talks and confronting the Russian aggressor.
“Spoke with Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron. We discussed countering the aggressor, Russia’s crimes against civilians. I ask my partners to help in releasing the captive mayor of Melitopol. Prospects for peace talks also discussed. We must stop the aggressor together,” Zelensky said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed former Deputy Head of the President’s Office, former member of the Supervisory Board of NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy Yulia Kovaliv as Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada.
A photocopy of the relevant decree was posted on Facebook by Deputy Head of the President’s Office Andriy Sybiha.
In addition, Vasyl Miroshnychenko was appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia, and Mykola Nahorny was appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Egypt
