Kyiv Zhuliany International Airport in January-November 2019 served 2.414 million passengers, which is 7.4% less than in January-November 2018. According to statistics released by the airport’s press service, the number of passengers served on international flights for the 11 months amounted to almost 2.358 million people, on domestic flights some 56,400 people. The number of flights in January-November 2019 amounted to 25,565 for arrival/departure, which is 8.6% less than in the same period in 2018, in particular, 21,532 international flights, and 4,033 domestic flights.
The most popular international destinations for the indicated period were Minsk (Belarus), Warsaw (Poland), Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), Rome (Italy), Vienna (Austria), Berlin, Frankfurt (both are Germany); internal Odesa, Zaporizhia, and Lviv.
In November 2019, the airport served 180,100 passengers, which is 1.35% less than in November 2018. The number of passengers served on international flights amounted to 177,500, on domestic flights some 2,600 people.
At the same time, the number of flights in November amounted to 2,029 for arrival/departure, which is 1.3% less than in the same period in 2018, of which 1,764 international and 265 domestic flights.
Azerbaijan’s Buta Airways low cost carrier will operate flights to Kyiv at Boryspil International Airport from January 22, 2020, the airline’s website said. Earlier the airline operated flights to the capital of Ukraine at Kyiv Zhuliany Airport.
As part of the airline’s winter schedule for 2019/2020, which is valid until March 27, Buta Airways flights on the Baku-Kyiv-Baku route are operated three times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. According to the same schedule, it is planned to continue flights in the summer schedule of 2020.
“Flights to Boryspil are carried out by most Ukrainian and foreign carriers, which will allow Buta Airways passengers to plan more convenient connections with other airlines,” the airline said.
Passengers who have already purchased tickets will be notified in accordance with the airline’s procedure by the phone numbers indicated when purchasing the ticket.
Buta Airways is the first low cost airline in Azerbaijan, a structural unit within Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), founded in December 2016. The first flight was performed on September 1, 2017. The airline fleet consists of modern Embraer aircraft. The airline is based in Baku, at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
The transfer of flights from Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) to Boryspil International Airport in Kyiv region from September 2 to September 12, 2019 won’t affect regularity of other flights from Boryspil. First Deputy Director General of Boryspil airport Yevhen Dykhne wrote on his page in Facebook.
According to him, the flights of ten air companies, which regularly fly from Kyiv airport, will be shared between the terminals D and F of Boryspil airport.
In particular, passengers of Alitalia, Pegasus Airlines, Motor Sich, Belavia и LOT will depart from terminal D.
Passengers of Wizz Air, Ernest Airlines, Buta Airways, Jonika Airlines, Vueling Airlines will depart from terminal F.
As earlier reported, Kyiv airport will halt its work for reception and departure of flights from September 2 to September 12 because of maintenance of a landing strip.

Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport (Zhuliany) is planning to reconstruct the main Terminal A with an area of 14,000 square meters and expand it by 9,500 square meters, estimating investment in this project at UAH 630 million.”The expansion of the terminal area by 9,500 square meters will help double its capacity,” the airport’s press service reported on Tuesday.
The airport’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine that the current airport capacity is about 700 people per hour.
Kyiv International Airport (Zhuliany) is located in the business center of the capital, seven kilometers from the city center. It is the second largest airport in Ukraine in terms of the number of flights and passenger traffic. The airport has three terminals with a total area is 21,000 square meters. Terminal B is separate facility for business-class service, it is part of the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) system. The airport’s runway is able to handle B-737 and A-320 aircraft. In the first nine months of 2018, the airport serviced 2.165 million passengers, which is 57.3% more than in January-September 2017.

Kyiv authorities formally renamed international airport Zhuliany “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv International Airport”. The airport is widely known as ‘Zhuliany’ after the surrounding neighborhood of the same name. Igor Sikorsky was born in Kyiv. During World War I, he designed and constructed bombers for Russia’s military. After the communists came to power and threatened him and his family, Sikorsky emigrated to the USA. There, he gained renown for designing and manufacturing fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.
The Kyiv international airport (Zhuliany) serviced 130,800 passengers in February 2018, which is 51.6% more than in February 2017, the airport’s press service has reported.
The press service said that the number of passengers on international flights was 124,900 and on domestic flights – 5,900.
The number of flights in February 2018 was 1,648, which is 20.5% more than a year ago, including 1,356 international flights and 292 domestic flights.
The most popular international destinations in February-2018 remained similar to January: Dubai (the UAE), Minsk (Belarus), Ankara (Turkey), Budapest (Hungary), Warsaw (Poland), Memmingen (Germany), Rome (Italy); and domestic – Odesa, Zaporizhia and Lviv.
