According to the results of a survey conducted by Active Group in collaboration with Experts Club, the vast majority of Ukrainians do not have a clear opinion about Suriname — 74.4% of respondents chose a neutral position, while another 14.4% were unable to answer the question about their attitude toward this country.
Positive opinions are rare — 7.1% (4.3% — mostly positive, 2.8% — completely positive). The share of negative perceptions is 4.2%, with criticism being moderate.
“These results are a classic example of a situation where a country is terra incognita for Ukrainians. It is not represented in the information field, has no significant historical or political contacts with Ukraine, and therefore an indifferent attitude is formed,” comments Oleksandr Pozniy, co-founder of Active Group.
Suriname remains virtually unknown to the general public in Ukraine. The high level of neutrality and low emotional ratings indicate a need for more information to expand inter-state dialogue.
