The Boryspil international airport (Kyiv) plans to launch Terminal F by the start of the summer navigation of 2019, First Deputy Director General of the airport Yevhen Dykhne said at a press conference on Wednesday.
He does not link the opening of this terminal with the start of the largest European low cost airline Ryanair in the airport.
“The Boryspil airport exhausted its potential in the peak loading, and Terminal F will be opened by summer navigation of 2019,” he said.
Earlier the airport head, Pavlo Riabikin, said that if Ryanair flies at least 15 flights a day, mothballed Terminal F would be opened.
“We are preparing for this and, first of all, this is linked to our calculations regarding the increase in passenger traffic. The second important factor is that at peak hours we reached the largest throughput in Terminal D and can no longer provide services to airlines that order slots for peak time. We already refuse airlines in provision of slots, which means that the capacity of Terminal D is not enough,” Dykhne said.
He also said that those airlines that fly at peak times, but do not participate in the transfer program of the airport and do not provide transit passengers, will be transferred to Terminal F.
“We will try to focus Terminal D on our hub operation model. As for those airlines that do not participate in the transit, we will offer them a transfer to Terminal F,” Dykhne said.
He also recalled that it was agreed that after the opening of Terminal F, Ryanair flights will be transferred to this terminal.
Boryspil International Airport is the main airport of Ukraine. The airport has two runways: one with a length of 4,000 meters and a width of 60 meters, and the second with a length of 3,500 meters and a width of 63 meters. Four passenger terminals, postal and cargo complexes are located on the territory of the airport.
The Sikorsky Kyiv international airport (Zhuliany) seeks to invest UAH 500 million to expand Terminal A in 2018-2019, Board Chairman Denys Kostrzhevsky has said.
“This year capital investment in the amount of some UAH 500 million will be sent to expand Terminal A. We plan to commission the terminal before May 2019,” he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
Kostrzhevsky also recalled that in 2017, Master-Avia managing company built a new apron with an area of 25,000 square meters in the airport.
He said that Master-Avia conducted the thorough analysis and designed a project on reconstruction of the runway of the airport, enlarging it by 600 meters. The runway would be able to service aircraft of Airbus А321 and Boeing 737-900 type.
“We need to settle the legal and technical issues: to finish the allocation of a land parcel for the airport and the extension of the runway in the conditions of the rough terrain. This is difficult to do, but the project includes these works and it is likely that it would be done. The approximate cost of this reconstruction is EUR 84 million. The airport asked the Kyiv City Administration to provide the required sum or start the process of attracting an investor,” Kostrzhevsky said.
He also said that be believes it logical to reconstruct the runway of the airport using budget funds.
“The state or the city is interested in the airport being developed and operating. If the decision on the public private partnership is made, it would depend on the proposal of officials if Master-Avia participates in it or not,” he said.

The Sikorsky Kyiv international airport (Zhuliany) plans to boost passenger flow by 55.6% in 2018, to 2.8 million people, Board Chairman Denys Kostrzhevsky has said. “In 2017, the Kyiv airport serviced 1.8 million passengers. In 2018, we plan to service some 2.8 million people who arrive and depart with new facilities,” he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine. Kostrzhevsky also said that new Ukrainian airline SkyUp, which signed a contract on long term cooperation with the airport, in May starts servicing first flights.
“This is a significant event, similar in importance to which Ukraine has not seen for several years. It is really a big Ukrainian airline with ambitious plans. If these plans come true, a good growth in passenger traffic will be ensured,” he said.

Passenger flow of the Kharkiv international airport in April 2018 totaled 65,300 people, which is 5% more than in April 2017 (61,900). The press service of the airport reported that total passenger flow in January-April 2018 grew to 236,900 people, which is 20% more than a year ago (196,800).

The Sikorsky Kyiv international airport plans to overhaul a runway in coming two or three years, Board Chairman Denys Kostrzhevsky has said. “The next stage to increase the passenger flow and increase profits and payments to the budget will be the reconstruction of the runway and the airfield. The runway has been operated for about 10 years and gradually deteriorates. To ensure flight safety, it is necessary to overhaul runway in the coming two or three years, with the closure of the airport for a year,” he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the top manager, the problem is that the runway currently belongs to the municipal enterprise, that is, to the city’s community, and only this enterprise can carry out its reconstruction.
“In order to attract private funding for the reconstruction of the runway, and this is logical, it is necessary to resolve the issue of transferring the runway to either concession or lease on the terms of reconstruction to a private investor. We face this task for the next two or three years: either at the expense of the municipal budget, or with the involvement of a private investor,” Kostrzhevsky said.

The Sikorsky Kyiv international airport intends to expand Terminal A for servicing growing passenger flow, Board Chairman Denys Kostrzhevsky has said. “In the coming years we predict growth of passenger flow and the new large-scale reconstruction being conducted by Master-Avia (the company that manages the airport) is linked to this. In 2019, the airports arrival and departure capacities would be doubled,” he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine. He said that at present, the international flight arrival zone has been re-equipped and expanded, and in the middle of May 2018 the large-scale reconstruction of Terminal A will start at the airport.
“Previously, the airport used Terminal D only for servicing domestic flights. Unfortunately, the domestic passenger traffic decreased significantly. IT practically came to nil. It was decided to re-equip a part of the facilities for servicing the arriving passengers from international flights. I cannot name the exact cost of reconstruction, as we are in the process. This is about UAH 20 million,” Kostrzhevsky said.
He added that two galleries have already been built that joined Terminals D and A. The number of passport control posts doubled, the area for staying passengers has been expanded significantly. The number of luggage delivery belts was doubled.
“It is planned to add more areas, about 9,000 square meters, to Terminal A, which will double the number of check-in counters, to 40. Also, the number of passport control desks, security checkpoints will be doubled, and, as a result, the number of passengers served simultaneously will grow 2.5-fold. Now it is about 700 passengers per hour, and there are plans to bring it up to 1,500,” Kostrzhevsky said.
