LAUNCH OF ALSTOM ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE PROJECT IN UKRAINE TO CREATE OVER 7,000 JOBS

The launch of a project for the supply of electric locomotives to Ukraine can create more than 7,000 jobs in the country in the long term, the French concern Alstom has said.
“The creation of new jobs will be one of the main positive consequences of the contract, which will be signed in the near future. According to our estimates, more than 7,000 jobs will be created or retained in Ukraine thanks to the electric locomotive business in the long term,” the company told Interfax -Ukraine.
Asked about the delivery times and conditions of locomotive maintenance, Alstom said that this issue is currently being resolved with customers and cannot yet be brought up for discussion.
According to representatives of Alstom, the company is looking for local clients in Ukraine, including among private businesses.

ITALIAN FM LUIGI ARRIVES IN UKRAINE

Italian Foreign and International Cooperation Minister Luigi Di Maio is making his first visit to Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.
“My great pleasure to welcome Head of Italian diplomacy Luigi Di Maio in Kyiv to deepen friendly ties between Ukraine and Italy and open a Ukrainian-Italian business forum. Turning contacts into Ukrainian-Italian contracts. This is his first visit to Ukraine,” Kuleba wrote on his Twitter page.

UKRAINE SINCE BEGINNING OF 2020/2021 MARKETING YEAR EXPORTS 42.6 MLN TONNES OF GRAINS

Ukraine since the beginning of the 2020/2021 marketing year (July-June) and as of June 9, 2021 had exported 42.61 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops, which is 22.4% less than on the same date of the previous MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, to date, 16.04 million tonnes of wheat, 21.77 million tonnes of corn, and 4.15 million tonnes of barley have been exported.
As of the indicated date, 113,800 tonnes of flour were also exported.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukraine exported 56.72 million tonnes of grain and legumes in the 2019/2020 MY.
As reported, the Ministry of Economy in February predicted a decline in exports of grains and legumes in the 2020/2021 MY by 20.5% compared to the previous MY, to 45.4 million tonnes.

ZAPORIZHIA AUTOMOBILE BUILDING PLANT PRODUCES 1,742 CARS IN 2021

JSC Zaporizhia Automobile Building Plant (ZAZ) in January-May of this year produced 1,742 passenger cars, while in the same period of 2020 – none, according to the statistics of the Ukrautoprom association.
At the same time, the plant produced 417 passenger cars in May, compared to 472 passenger cars in April this year.
The plant also produced 39 buses over the five months versus 13 buses a year earlier.
According to the statistics of the association, the second Ukrainian manufacturer of passenger cars, the Eurocar plant (Zakarpattia region), in January-May produced 1,796 Skoda passenger cars using the SKD assembly method, which is 35.5% more than in the same period last year, including 527 cars produced in May (6 times more than in May 2020).
As reported, taking into account these production indicators of the two plants, the production of passenger cars in Ukraine in January-May increased 2.7-fold, to 3,538 cars.
ZAZ is a leading automobile manufacturing plant with the capacity for full-scale production of automobiles. The plant is part of the Ukrainian Automobile Corporation (UkrAVTO), owned by Tariel Vasadze.
The corporation’s brand portfolio includes passenger cars Chery, Lada, Chevrolet, Kia, Renault, as well as Mercedes, Jeep, Maserati, and buses of several classes.

UKRAINIAN PERSONNEL OF NATO MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN RETURN HOME

All Ukrainian national personnel of NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan returned to Ukraine from June 1 to June 5.
“The planned return took place due to the decision of the NATO side to terminate the mission, which was adopted on April 14, 2021, following a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of foreign ministers and defense ministers of the Mission’s contributing states,” the Defense Ministry of Ukraine said.
In total, the NATO mission in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan included 21 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The main tasks of the Ukrainian national personnel included fulfilling duties as staff officers at the mission headquarters; conducting engineering reconnaissance of traffic routes, objects and terrain; implementation of measures to counter the use of improvised explosive devices and the disposal of explosive objects, and others.
“The experience gained in fulfilling the tasks of NATO-led Resolute Support Mission will be used by Ukrainian servicemen at home. In particular, carrying out tasks for the purpose of countering the Russian armed aggression in the area of the Joint Force Operation,” the Defense Ministry said.
NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan launched on 1 January 2015 as part of the implementation of the decisions of the Alliance Summit in Chicago (May 2012) to provide the Afghan government with further assistance in the development of the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces.
“Resolute Support” in Afghanistan officially replaced another International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operation, which ended on December 28, 2014.

UKRAINIAN SKYUP STARTS 13 NEW ROUTES FROM KIEV

SkyUp (Kyiv) in May 2021 performed 1,419 flights and carried 209,924 passengers, the airline said in a press release.
According to the airline’s internal statistics, in May SkyUp set an absolute record for the number of flights performed for the entire period of the company’s activity, completing 1,419 flights. Of these, 870 are charter flights, 519 are regular, as well as 30 are positional and training flights.
The daily number of SkyUp flights performed in May reached 60 flights.
The airline carried 209,924 passengers on passenger flights: by charters – 152,835 people, by regular flights – 57,089 passengers.
In addition, SkyUp transported 41,459 tonnes of cargo on passenger flights.
The most popular destinations among SkyUp passengers in May on charter flights were Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt, 30,770 people), Antalya (Turkey, 26,160 people), Hurghada (Egypt, 12,410 people).
The passengers of regular flights most often chose Istanbul (Turkey, 6,965 people), Tbilisi (Georgia, 6,046 people), Batumi (Georgia, 4,222 people).
In May, the airline launched 13 domestic and international routes: from Kyiv to Bodrum, Izmir and Odesa; from Odesa to Batumi, Kharkiv and Lviv; from Lviv to Tirana; from Kharkiv to Larnaca, Tivat and Tirana; from Zaporizhia to Istanbul, Batumi and Tirana.
SkyUp also announced the start in June of a flight program from Odesa to the Greek island of Crete, from Zaporizhia and Lviv to Tivat (Montenegro).
