UKRAINIAN MANUFACTURER OF WATER FILTERS ECOSOFT JOINS EUROPEAN GROUP BWT

The Ukrainian manufacturer of water filters Ecosoft (Irpen, Kyiv region) will join the Best Water Technology (BWT), a leading group on the European water treatment market, the press service of Ecosoft reported on Wednesday.
According to the press service of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, on December 10, the committee granted permission to BWT Aktiengesellschaft (Austria) to acquire a controlling stake in Ecosoft Holding.
Ecosoft is a manufacturer and distributor of water treatment equipment for domestic and industrial use with production sites in Ukraine and Germany and a wide international presence.
BWT Aktiengesellschaft is the holding company of Best Water Technology, the leading European group in the field of water technology with a turnover of about EUR 670 million in 2017 and 3,600 employees. It offers solutions for drinking water, water for pharmaceuticals and industrial processes, heating and cooling systems, air conditioning and swimming pools.
In Ukraine, Ecosoft was founded in 1991. Since 2012, it has been actively supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) through consulting and financing programs.

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE REVISES UPWARDS FORECAST FOR CORN EXPORT FROM UKRAINE TO 28 MLN TONNES

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in December reviewed upwards the forecast for export of corn from Ukraine in 2018/19 agricultural year (July-June) by 1 million tonnes compared with the September forecast, to 28 million tonnes.
According to a posting on the website of the USDA, the forecast for corn harvest for 2018 is increased by 1.5 million tonnes, to 35 million tonnes.
Corn production in in Ukraine increased thanks to larger crops harvested, and if the forecast volumes are harvested the harvest forecast this month would exceed the previous record hit in 2016/17 agri-year by almost 20%, the department said.
USDA retained its forecast for export of wheat from Ukraine in 2018/19 agri-year at 16.5 million tonnes and the harvest forecast – at 25 million tonnes.
In general, USDA revised upwards the forecast for grain harvest in Ukraine by 1.5 million tonnes, to 68.7 million tonnes and grain exports – by 1 million tonnes, to 49.2 million tonnes.

UKRAINE SEES DECLINE IN MILK PRODUCTION, BUT MEAT AND EGGS OUTPUT GROWS

The production of milk in Ukraine in January-November 2018 declined by 1.9% compared to the same period in 2017, to 9.457 million tonnes. At the same time, egg production in January-November grew by 3.3% compared to the same period in 2017, to 14.982 billion eggs, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said.
Production of meat (in live weight) in January-November 2018 grew by 0.8%, to 2.88 million tonnes.
According to earlier statistics reports, milk production in Ukraine in 2017 decreased by 0.5% from 2016, to 10.329 million tonnes, meat (in live weight) by 0.4%, to 3.259 million tonnes. Production of eggs in 2017 rose by 3.2%, to 15.578 billion eggs.

COCA-COLA LAUNCHES NEW LINE IN UKRAINE

Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine that belongs to U.S. Coca-Cola Company has launched a new production line with a capacity of 40,000 PET bottles per hour at its plant in Brovary (Kyiv region), Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine Public Affairs and Communications Director Andriy Bublyk wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
“Since yesterday [December 10], this investment has been launched at our plant and sends consumers 40,000 bottles of their favorite drinks every hour,” he wrote.
The company said that the project was implemented in two and a half months, the volume of investments in the project amounted to EUR 10.5 million.
“Today, the plant has 12 lines with a total production capacity of more than 100 million unit cases (1 unit case equals 5.678 liters) of products per year,” Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine said.
Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine is one of the leaders in the Ukrainian market of soft drinks. It is the official bottler of The Coca-Cola Company.
Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine produces a wide range of non-alcoholic beverages in various categories – sweet carbonated drinks, juices, water, energy drinks and cold teas.
The first plant of the company in Ukraine was opened in Lviv.
Currently, the company owns one plant in Brovary (it started operating in 1998).

UKRAINE SEAPORTS INCREASE CARGO HANDLING BY 0.6% IN 2018

Ukrainian seaports in January-November 2018 handled 121.5 million tonnes of cargo, which is 0.61% more than a year ago.
“It was possible to improve the performance of the previous year due to the increase in cargo volumes of the metallurgical and agrarian industry, as well as containers,” the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said on its website.
According to the report, during this period, the seaports accepted and sent 10,600 ships, which are 3,080 ships (2.9%) less than in 2017.
The authority recorded an increase in the volume of metal products – by 11%, to 1.45 million tonnes, as well as agricultural goods, in particular grain (by 0.1%, to 35.9 million tonnes), peas and corn (by 8.4%, up to 717,000 tonnes).
In general, over the period, the transshipment of export cargoes in Ukrainian seaports amounted to 88.8 million tonnes, which is 1.4% less compared to the same period in 2017. At the same time, there was an increase in exports of ferrous metals, to 13.6 million tonnes (an increase of 9%); including 8 million tonnes of rolled metal products (a decrease of 0.9%) and 2.7 million tonnes of pig iron (an increase of 36.55%).
Handling of imported cargo increased 18.13%, to 21.5 million tonnes. Imports of coke significantly increased (4.7 times, to 408,900 tonnes), chemical and mineral fertilizers (2.7 times to 313,200 tonnes). Almost one third of all imports entering Ukraine through sea ports is ore, which increased by 17.7% compared with January-November 2017, to 6.9 million tonnes.
Cargo turnover of transit cargo amounted to 9.2 million tonnes, 15.2% less than a year earlier.
In addition, from January to November 2018, more than 500,000 passengers were transported.
In January-November 2018, 15,600 passages of ships were carried out along the Dnipro River, which were 1,324 or 8.5% more than a year earlier.
