INDIAN PHAMA PRODUCERS READY TO INTRODUCE QR CODING FOR MEDICINES – IPMA PRESIDENT

KYIV. October 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers are ready to introduce QR coding of medicine packages in Ukraine, as India applies this practice, President of the Indian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (IPMA) Dr. Ramanan Menon has said.
“All medicines that are exported by India are to have QR code. This requirement has applied in India for a long period of time,” he told Interfax-Ukraine.
Dr. Menon said that QR coding technology allows tracking the entire chain of medicine movements to control each package. The tool for this control could be a mobile phone (smartphone), which using a special application reading QR codes can check the medicine in a pharmacy in the presence of a pharmacist.
“The introduction of this effective tool to combat flow of fake medicines will protect the interests of patients,” he said.
He said that pharmacies in Ukraine at present do not have devices for automated monitoring of medicines flow, which would have allowed supervising the flow of medicines and revealing fake medicines.
