PHILIP MORRIS RAISES PRODUCE SHIPMENTS IN UKRAINE BY 14.7% IN 2016

KYIV. Feb 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Philip Morris International Inc. (PMI), one of the world’s largest manufacturers of tobacco products, 2016 increased shipments of cigarettes in Ukraine by 14.7%in 2016, to 22.014 billion pieces.

According to an annual report published on Thursday, for the full year, the estimated total cigarette market increased by 2.9%, to 72.7 billion pieces, mainly driven by a lower prevalence of illicit trade.

The company said that in Q4 2016 the estimated total cigarette market decreased by 6.4%, to 17 billion pieces, principally driven by the impact of price increases in 2016. PMI shipments in Q4 2016 fell by 0.5%, to 4.8 billion cigarettes.

The PMI share of the Ukrainian market in 2016 narrowed by 0.1 percentage points, to 29.9% due to a decline of the Marlboro brand’s share by 0.6 percentage points, to 3.2% and the share of other PMI brands – by 1.4 percentage points, to 13.6%. Bond Street share grew by 1.8 percentage points, to 10.1% and Parliament – by 0.1 percentage points, to 3%.

Philip Morris International is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of tobacco products. It produces cigarettes at more than 50 factories, sells them in 160 countries.

The company has been operating in Ukraine for more than 15 years. It manufactures products at the factory in Kharkiv region.

 

AGROTRADE TO SEND SOME $40 MLN FOR SPRING SOWING CAMPAIGN IN 2017

KYIV. Feb 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Agrotrade agroindustrial group will send near $40 million for its spring sowing campaign in 2017.

“Around $40 million will be sent for the 2017 sowing campaign. All 17 enterprises of the group have all the required machinery, seeds, plant protection agents and other things,” the group’s press service reported on Wednesday.

Since 2006 Agrotrade has been cooperating with many financial structures. Its loan portfolio includes contracts with Credit Agricole Bank, Raiffeisen Bank Aval and other banks.

“2017 started favorably and early this year all limits to finance the sowing campaign were approved by the banks,” the group said.

As reported, Agrotrade invested around UAH 10 million in the launch of organic production on 2,000 ha in Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

Since spring 2017 the company will start producing own organic crops – soybeans, peas and buckwheat. The crops will be sold to the EU and the United States.

Agrotrade is a vertically integrated holding, engaged in production, processing, storage and trade in agricultural products.

TURKEY AIRLINE WANTS TO LAUNCH DOMESTIC FLIGHTS IN UKRAINE – INFRASTRUCTURE MINISTER

KYIV. Feb 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – One of Turkish airlines is mulling the possibility of launching a subsidiary in Ukraine to organize domestic regional flights, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan said at a meeting with members of the European Business Association (EBA) in Kyiv on Tuesday.

“Now we are working with a Turkish airline that wants to open its subsidiary for regional transportation in Ukraine,” he said, not disclosing its name.

The minister also said that this year one of the popular European airlines will start flying to Ukraine this year.

“It is for sure to Lviv, maybe to Boryspil or Zhyliany,” he said.

Earlier the Infrastructure Ministry confirmed holding talks on flights to Ukraine by Kyiv and Lviv airports with one of the largest low cost airlines Ryanair.

In addition, Omelyan announced February talks with a carrier that in theory could bring five or seven planes to Ukraine to launch regular domestic flights.

At present four Turkish airlines fly to Ukraine: Turkish Airlines, Onur Air, Pegasus Airlines and Atlasglobal. The latter created Atlasjet Ukraine in 2013 that considered servicing domestic flights, but not it services only flights abroad.

 

SPF AGAIN ANNOUNCES TENDER TO SELL KHERSON CHPP WITH STARTING PRICE OF UAH 155 MLN

KYIV. Feb 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine’s State Property Fund (SPF) has again announced a tender to sell the 99.833% stake in the public joint-stock company Kherson combined heat and power plant (CHPP) with a starting price of UAH 155 million.

The action will be held at 11:00 on March 16. Bids can be submitted until the evening of February 28, 2017, the SPF reported on Wednesday.

As reported, the first tender to sell Kherson CHPP was announced on November 14, 2016. It was scheduled for December 22. However, the SPF received no bids in the tender. The starting price of the shares was UAH 155 million.

In October of 2016, SPF Head Ihor Bilous said investors were not interested in Kherson and Odesa CHPPs

The installed electric capacity of the Kherson CHPP is 80 MW, heat capacity is 734.7 Gcal/hr.

UKRAINE UPS ROLL OUTPUT 10%, PIPE 42% IN JAN

KYIV. Feb 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine increased crude steel production by 9% year-on-year to 2.103 million tonnes in January 2017, according to recent data.

Ukrmetallurgprom association of metal companies of Ukraine (Dnipro) told Interfax-Ukraine that roll output in January grew 10% to 1.855 million tonnes whilst pig iron production remained at the January 2016 level at 1.914 million tonnes.

Pipe output increased 42% in January to 77,000 tonnes. Coke production fell 7% to 1.008 million tonnes.

Crude steel production was 2.014 million tonnes in December 2016, roll production was 1.943 million tonnes, and 44,000 tonnes of pipe and 1 million tonnes of coke wee produced.

Ukraine’s crude steel output grew 6% in 2016 to 24.2 million tonnes, pig iron – 8% to 23.6 million tonnes, roll – 6% to 21.4 million tonnes, coke – 10% to 12.725 million tonnes. Pipe production fell 1% to 847,000 tonnes.
