BUSINESSES IN UKRAINE FORECAST FOREX RATE UAH 28 PER U.S. DOLLAR IN 2020

Businesses plan their 2020 budgets with the forex trade set at UAH 28 per U.S. dollar, according to the “Global Outlook” study by the European Business Association (EBA).
“When planning the budget for next year, owners use the average forex rate at UAH 28 per U.S. dollar. According to investors, the hryvnia will continue strengthening, as last year the rate was at UAH 30 per U.S. dollar,” EBA Executive Director Anna Derevyanko said while presenting the findings of the study in Kyiv on Monday.
As many as 104 top managers of EBA member companies were surveyed in August 2019 during the study. Some 77% of those polled expect their business will develop in 2020, with 45% of CEOs forecasting revenue growth by 10-20%.
At the same time, compared with the forecast for 2019, the number of companies that intend to expand staff has decreased. As the survey showed, 47% of companies plan to leave the number of employees at the level of last year, and 46% of CEOs shared plans for expanding their staff (last year their share was 58%), Derevyanko’s cited the results of the survey.
Only 33% of companies intend to launch new investment projects in Ukraine in 2020, the study indicates.
At the same time, more than 90% of CEOs are going to raise employees’ salaries by 5-10%, the survey showed.
The study was conducted for the fourth year in a row.

UKRAINE SHOULD ENTER TOP-3 COUNTRIES IN TERMS OF OPEN DATA

Ukraine should enter the TOP-3 countries in the field of open data in three years, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov during the opening of the Open Data Forum in Kyiv on Friday.
“My goal is to make everything for Ukraine to enter the TOP-3 countries in the field of open data in the world in three years since we have support from the president, the prime minister and all ministers,” he said.
Fedorov also said that the team of the Ministry of Digital Transformation has already been formed. The deputies will be introduced on September 27, and officially they will take office on October 1.
“Until October 1, we have the task to officially install our deputies in the office. I will have a very strong team of deputies. Then, based on the functions and our goals, we will communicate with you and implement projects in the coordinate system,” said the deputy prime minister.

UKRAINE’S CUSTOMS TO MAKE PUBLIC ALL DATA NOT VIOLATING COMMERCIAL SECRETS – NEFYODOV

The State Customs Service (Derzhmytsluzhba) will make public all information that does not violate commercial secrets, head of the customs Maksym Nefyodov said during the Open Data Forum in Kyiv on Friday.
“We are submitting a bill to open anonymized data at the customs. We want to open all the information without violating, of course, commercial secrets,” he said.
According to Nefyodov, the customs will complete an IT audit by the end of the year and prepare a digital transformation strategy.
“Now we are at the stage of an IT audit. The audit will be fully completed before the end of the year. By this time, we will have a digital transformation strategy. For the customs, almost everything is connected with the processing of information,” Nefyodov said.
As reported, earlier, Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk expressed his confidence in new chief of the State Customs Service Maksym Nefyodov. Honcharuk said it is possible to defeat smuggling before the end of 2019.

UKRAINIAN SOLAR CHERNOBYL LLC GETS PRESTIGIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

The most prestigious Energy Globe Award 2019 has found its winners. This year the National ENERGY GLOBE Award Ukraine 2019 goes to Solar Chernobyl LLC for the implementation of the project SOLAR CHERNOBYL – 1 MWp SPP. The main idea of this ambitious project is to turn the radioactive contaminated area into a useful area of green energy production.
The Solar Chornobyl site is 100 meters from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant reactor. This is the first solar station located in the Chernobyl zone and it is supposed to have a positive impact on the economic and ecological situation in Chernobyl. From July 01, 2018, for the first time in 18 years, the first kilowatts from Chernobyl began to flow into the united power grid of Ukraine. At present, the power plant has a capacity of 1 MW.
The ENERGY GLOBE Award was founded in 1999 by the Austrian energy pioneer Wolfgang Neumann and is one of today’s most prestigious environmental awards. It is annually conferred by the Energy Globe Foundation to innovative projects offering practical solutions on environmental issues and developing sustainable initiatives for a sustainable future. Participants from 180 countries present projects from around the world, ranging from small and simple initiatives to extremely large-scale ideas, aimed at saving resources, improving air and water quality, energy efficiency and using of renewable energy.

RETAIL TRADE IN UKRAINE CONTINUES GROWING – STATISTICS

Retail trade in Ukraine (legal entities and individual entrepreneurs) in January-August 2019 increased by 9.9% in comparable prices compared with January-August 2018, the State Statistics Service said on Friday. In August 2019 alone, retail trade turnover grew by 3.4% compared with the previous month and by 6.7% year-over-year (August 2019 to August 2018).
The largest growth in retail turnover in January-August 2019 compared to the same period in 2018 was recorded in Vinnitsa region (by 18.2%), Ternopol region (by 17.1%), Kyiv region (by 16%), Cherkasy region (by 14.2%), Luhansk region (by 13.7%), Odesa region (by 13.3%), Dnipropetrovsk region (by 13%), Khmelnitsky region (by 11.1%), Donetsk region (by 10.5%), Rivne region (by 10.3%), and the city of Kyiv (by 14.5%).
The State Statistics Service says that its report does not include data from the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and occupied districts in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
