The Boryspil airport has serviced a record number of passengers during the final of the UEFA Champions League in Kyiv – almost 53,000 people. “On that day we serviced 52,599 passengers, which is the absolute record in the history of the Boryspil airport. For comparison, we had 38,000 passengers during the Euro-2012 final. Last year we once hit the mark of 40,000 passengers,” Director General of the airport Pavlo Riabikin said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
He said that on May 26, the airport serviced 31 charter flights with 6,393 fans of Real and fans of Liverpool used 40 flights (8,822 passengers). There were three flights with official delegations of the King of Spain, the prime minister of Gabon and the president of the Czech Republic, and 72 flights were additionally serviced. Riabikin said that the airport additionally earned UAH 31.5 million of net profit on that day.
Boryspil Airport (Kyiv region) on May 25-26 accepted and dispatched all 77 additional charter flights (100% of the plan) and 73 business flights, which is 21.6% more than the estimated number of flights agreed for transportation of fans to the holding of the UEFA Champions League final in Kyiv on May 26.
“Some 77 charter flights and 73 business flights were accepted on May 25-26. This number does not include regular flights, only those with fans,” airport spokeswoman Tetiana Yarosh said.
She also said that initially it was planned to accept only 60 business jets.
According to the expert, all these planes departed from Kyiv at 07:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 27, without incidents.
As reported, Boryspil airport planned to accept and dispatch 77 additional charter flights on May 25-27 in connection with the holding of the Champions League final match in Kyiv.
At the same time, Kyiv airport almost quintupled the number of accepted business jets in connection with the Champions League final match.
Boryspil International Airport expects to receive an additional UAH 15-20 million of revenue from aviation activities due to servicing additional flights on the day of the UEFA Champions League final in Kyiv on May 26, the airport deputy director for commercial activities and strategic development, Heorhiy Zubko, has said at a press conference.
“The assets Boryspil airport intends to receive within the framework of this event are those that are directly related to aviation activity. We expect to receive at least UAH 15-20 million from that number of passengers who will come to us,” he predicts.
Zubko noted that in addition to income from aviation activities, the airport also expects to receive additional income from passenger service enterprises: cafes, duty free shops, etc., located in the airport’s territory.
As reported, Boryspil airport is expected to accept 77 flights with fans in Terminals B and D on the day of the UEFA Champions League final.
At the same time, Kyiv expects 100,000 guests for the UEFA Champions League final, but most fans will leave after the Champions League finals are finished and they will not need accommodation in the hotels of the capital.
The Boryspil international airport (Kyiv) plans to launch Terminal F by the start of the summer navigation of 2019, First Deputy Director General of the airport Yevhen Dykhne said at a press conference on Wednesday.
He does not link the opening of this terminal with the start of the largest European low cost airline Ryanair in the airport.
“The Boryspil airport exhausted its potential in the peak loading, and Terminal F will be opened by summer navigation of 2019,” he said.
Earlier the airport head, Pavlo Riabikin, said that if Ryanair flies at least 15 flights a day, mothballed Terminal F would be opened.
“We are preparing for this and, first of all, this is linked to our calculations regarding the increase in passenger traffic. The second important factor is that at peak hours we reached the largest throughput in Terminal D and can no longer provide services to airlines that order slots for peak time. We already refuse airlines in provision of slots, which means that the capacity of Terminal D is not enough,” Dykhne said.
He also said that those airlines that fly at peak times, but do not participate in the transfer program of the airport and do not provide transit passengers, will be transferred to Terminal F.
“We will try to focus Terminal D on our hub operation model. As for those airlines that do not participate in the transit, we will offer them a transfer to Terminal F,” Dykhne said.
He also recalled that it was agreed that after the opening of Terminal F, Ryanair flights will be transferred to this terminal.

The construction of a high-speed railway line to Boryspil airport will be completed by December 1, according to the Government Portal website.
“The object will be commissioned by December 1. The construction has started. Now we will finally agree on the type of station,” Acting Chairman of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov said during a meeting with Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.
“It is important to complete the project by December 1 and provide alternative transport to passengers to get to the airport or from the airport through the city and other cities of Ukraine,” Groysman said.
According to the construction project, the line will be built from the Kyiv-Pasazhyrsky station through the Vydubychi station to Terminal D at Boryspil airport. The estimated travel time is 35 minutes.
The rolling stock to be used on the line is 11 PESA 620m trains for 91 seats and two PESA 630m trains with 192 seats.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a financial plan of state-owned enterprise (SOE) Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv), the largest airport of the country, for 2018 with the projected net profit of UAH 1.388 billion. This is outlined in a government resolution passed at a meeting on April 11, 2018, a copy of which is available to Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the document, net revenue in 2018 is planned in the amount of UAH 3.93 billion, gross profit – UAH 2.156 billion, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) – UAH 2.473 billion, and EBITDA margin – 69.9%.
Pretax profit could be UAH 1.695 billion, payments to the state – UAH 1.923 billion and capital investment – UAH 2.263 billion.
