The grain storage facilities in Ukraine allow storing around 60-65% of harvest, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Taras Vysotsky has said.
“The implementation of the agrarian potential of Ukraine needs to modernize the existing logistic infrastructure and further development. Today, grain storage facilities allow storing some 60-65% of the harvested crop. The total one-time grain, leguminous and oilseeds storage capacity is 45.4 million tonnes,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.
According to the deputy minister, the shortage of storage facilities is observed in all regions. According to the ministry, under the government program to support agricultural producers in 2019, 55 producers from 16 regions received government support in the direction of partial reimbursement of the cost of building and reconstructing grain storage and processing enterprises, the total amount of compensation exceeded UAH 526 million.
“Thanks to the support, an additional 61 facilities with a throughput capacity of about 1 million tonnes were obtained and more than 500 jobs were created,” Vysotsky said.
Allseeds, one of the largest producers and exporters of vegetable oil in Ukraine, has expanded the oil storage facilities at a terminal in the Pivdenny port (Odesa region) by 2.4 times, to 100,000 tonnes, according to a posting on the website of the group on Tuesday. “Recently, the capacity of the tank farm here has increased from 42,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes for one-time oil storage. The company is ready to fill tankers at seven loading points from six berths belonging to TIS company with a speed of up to 1,200 tonnes/hour,” the company said.
The company said that such capabilities in logistics and active mutually beneficial cooperation with partners allowed Allseeds in April 2019 to set its own transshipment record of about 100,000 tonnes of vegetable oil which corresponds to 1.2 million tonnes per year.
“So far [1.2 million tonnes a year]… Because the development plan implementation of the company’s oilseed-processing and terminal complexes in Pivdenny and its infrastructure continues,” the company said.
Allseeds Group was founded in 2010.
Windkraft Ukraine LLC (Skadovsk, Kherson region) by the end of this year plans to bring the installed capacity of its wind farms in Kherson region to 170 MW and the company is mulling the next project to boost them by another 150-170 MW, Windkraft Ukraine Director Carl Sturen has said. “By the end of the year there will be 170 MW: 100 MW have been added,” he told Interfax-Ukraine on the sidelines of the recent YES Conference organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in Kyiv, commenting on the development of the company in 2018. Sturen said that this year the company used its own funds and bank loans. According to him, to implement plans for further expansion, Windkraft Ukraine will consider various financing options.
The director said that while the company, using its own resources, began to build a substation that will allow increasing the capacity. He said that the new sites are not far from the already developed ones.
Asked why Windkraft Ukraine remains committed to wind farms, not solar power plants, which are more popular among investors due to a higher tariff and lower investment, Sturen said that he considers the windfarm business more sustainable. “The wind is more sustainable: it is more complicated, but it fits better with the energy system and is better for the consumer,” the director said.
