KSG Agro agricultural holding expects grain harvest in Ukraine to grow by an average of 10-15% compared to 2020, and one of the best harvests for the agricultural holding, owner of the agricultural company Serhiy Kasyanov has said in a press release from the company.
“Now we are primarily talking about winter crops, but I do not see any problems with spring crops either. Perhaps we will move somewhere in time and harvest the sunflower not in September, but in October. But this will not significantly affect the results. We, for example, predict that in our agricultural holding it will be one of the best harvests in recent years,” he said.
According to the farmer, the harvest forecast is very optimistic throughout the country, even in traditionally arid regions.
As reported, KSG Agro is a vertically integrated holding engaged in pig breeding, production, storage, processing and sale of grain and oilseeds. The land bank of the agricultural holding is 23,900 hectares in Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions.
KSG Agro in 2020 reduced its net profit by 3.2 times compared to 2019, to $1.27 million, increased EBITDA by 3.1 times, to $6.532 million, its revenue over the past year decreased by 11%, to $21.34 million.
Revenue from the livestock segment in 2020 decreased by 8%, to $10.3 million, while the food processing segment brought in 22% less and amounted to $8.4 million.
Ukraine since the beginning of the 2020/2021 marketing year (July-June) and as of June 9, 2021 had exported 42.61 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops, which is 22.4% less than on the same date of the previous MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, to date, 16.04 million tonnes of wheat, 21.77 million tonnes of corn, and 4.15 million tonnes of barley have been exported.
As of the indicated date, 113,800 tonnes of flour were also exported.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukraine exported 56.72 million tonnes of grain and legumes in the 2019/2020 MY.
As reported, the Ministry of Economy in February predicted a decline in exports of grains and legumes in the 2020/2021 MY by 20.5% compared to the previous MY, to 45.4 million tonnes.
Ukraine should regulate its role in the issue of grain policy in global markets, in particular, it concerns phytosanitary issues, new approaches to the use of pesticides and issues of traceability of grain origin, the Ministry of Economy said on Wednesday.
“Usually we adopt EU policy and implement it in Ukraine, including trade issues. But this is not always necessary. We shall develop our own position. In particular, my task, as chairing the International Grains Council, is to attract attention of global markets to the grain policy of Ukraine,” Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka said.
The Ministry of Economy said that on June 8 Kachka met with GAFTA Director General Jaine Chisholm Caunt and members of the organization’s council to discuss possible cooperation between Ukraine and the International Grains Council and GAFTA. The ministry called this meeting especially relevant on the eve of the beginning of Ukraine’s chairmanship in the International Grains Council.
“It is important to deepen the dialog between trade institutions, such as the International Grains Council, GAFTA, WTO, because finding a balance in international trade is directly related to ensuring global food security. We see more and more ties between the business community of Ukraine and international trade institutions and consider the development of this dialogue is key in our trade policy,” Kachka said.
The Ministry of Economy recalled that GAFTA (Grain and Feed Trade Association) is an international trade association headquartered in London, consisting of grain traders, brokers and other specialists in the international grain trade. Founded on November 17, 1871 it has over 1,900 members in 100 countries.
Kernel, one of the largest Ukrainian agrarian groups, intends to increase grain exports from Ukraine from 8.5 million to 10 million tonnes in the 2021/2022 fiscal year (July-June), Kernel CEO Andriy Verevsky said during a conference call with analysts.
“We plan to export more than 10 million tonnes of grain in the next fiscal year,” he said.
According to the company, in January-March 2021, Kernel reduced grain exports from Ukraine by 15% compared to January-March 2020, to 1.8 million tonnes.
Kernel said that in the first nine months of the current FY it has fulfilled 75% of its plan for the export of grain from Ukraine, which the company set for this year at 8.5 million tonnes.
In October 2020, the agricultural producer announced plans to increase grain exports from Ukraine in 2020/2021 FY by 20.3%, to 9.5 million tonnes, and sunflower crushing by 1.7%, to 3.5 million tonnes.
Kernel is a large producer and exporter of sunflower oil.
The harvest of grains and oilseeds in the 2021/2020 marketing year may exceed 100 million tonnes, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Roman Leshchenko said on Monday.
“If the amount of precipitation is at the same level as we see in May, then there will be an increase in soybeans as well,” the minister told Interfax-Ukraine.
According to him, the timely implementation of the complex of spring field work by the farmers makes it possible to assess the volume of the harvest in the current season with “healthy optimism.”
“We have all the prerequisites for setting an absolute record this year – the harvest of grain and oilseeds [at the level of] 100 million tonnes,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv.
As reported, the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) estimated the growth of the potential harvest of grains and oilseeds in the 2021/2022 marketing year by 14.5% compared to 2020/21, to 96.25 million tonnes thanks to good wintering of winter crops and favorable weather conditions.
Ukraine since the beginning of the 2020/2021 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of May 7, 2021 had exported 39.24 million tonnes of grain and legumes, which is 23.6% less than on the same date of the previous MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, 15.14 million tonnes of wheat, 19.36 million tonnes of corn, 4.12 million tonnes of barley have been exported to date.
As of the indicated date, 107,000 tonnes of flour were also exported.
