The Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) in its September report lowered the forecast for the gross harvest of grains and oilseeds this season from 96.7 to 95.6 million tonnes, exports from 58.4 to 56.3 million tonnes due to unfavorable weather conditions for the harvest of late crops in some regions of Ukraine.
“Even after lowering the forecast for the harvest, its figure may be the second in terms of gross harvest after last year’s record – 98 million tonnes, the same can be said about the possible export volumes,” the association said in a press release posted on its website on Wednesday.
So, this year, according to UGA, farmers harvested 26.6 million tonnes of wheat (UGA forecast was at 26.8 million tonnes) and 8.3 million tonnes of barley (UGA predicted 8.2 million tonnes). According to the association’s forecasts, wheat exports this season may reach 17.5 million tonnes (in accordance with the signed memorandum), and barley may reach 4.5 million tonnes.
In addition, UGA slightly lowered its forecast for the corn harvest this season in the September report compared to the previous forecast in August from 36.4 million tonnes to 35.3 million tonnes due to unfavorable dry weather conditions in the southern and partly central regions of Ukraine.
According to UGA experts, farmers will not harvest corn for grain on an area of 205,000 hectares, which is 3.8% of the total area under corn. In other regions, which are the main corn producers, the harvest situation is satisfactory and good, and they are not experiencing critical losses.
As of September 1, Ukrainian farmers harvested 38.4 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from an area of 9.68 million hectares (63% of the forecast).
According to a report on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture, 29,800 tonnes of millet were threshed from an area of 15,900 hectares (11%), 221,500 tonnes of sunflower from an area of 150,000 hectares (2%).
Harvesting of crops such as wheat, barley, peas and canola has been completed.
In addition, according to the ministry, the harvesting of buckwheat has begun in six regions, which has already harvested 19,700 tonnes from an area of 11,290 hectares.
In general, Ukrainian agricultural producers have already harvested 41.2 million tonnes of basic crops from an area of 10.94 million hectares.
“According to the Ukrainian Weather Center, due to dry weather in Ukraine, moisture in the soil is insufficient, which has a direct impact on crop yields. However, thanks to the May precipitation, the forecast volume of the harvest remains optimal both for domestic consumption and for export to foreign markets,” the Economy Ministry said.
Agroprodservice has launched the second line of a grain elevator in the village of Yastrubiv, Ternopil region, with a storage capacity of 100,000 tonnes per annum.
According to a statement on the company’s website, the second line of the facility consists of a grain-harvesting tank, drying, cleaning and transporting units.
The total storage capacity of Agroprodservice’s grain elevators reaches 200,000 tonnes of simultaneous storage.
Agroprodservice was created in 1999. As a diversified company, it operates in Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. It cultivates about 45,000 hectares of land.
Agroprodservice owns grain elevators with a total storage capacity of 200,000 tonnes, as well as feed and seed mills.
The company is also engaged in poultry farming (2 million birds), cattle breeding (about 6,000 animals), and pig breeding (60,000 animals).
The final beneficiaries of Agroprodservice are Tetiana Chaikivska and Andriy Baran.
Since the beginning of the new 2020/2021 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of August 19, 2020, Ukraine exported 5.1 million tonnes of grain and legumes, which is 1.26 million tonnes less (due to corn) than on this date in the past MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex, 3.03 million tonnes of wheat, 1.56 million tonnes of barley and 502,000 tonnes of corn (1.18 million tonnes less) was exported to date.
As of August 19 of this year, 28,400 tonnes of flour was also exported.
As reported, in the 2019/2020 MY Ukraine exported a record 57.2 million tonnes of grain, legumes and flour, which is 13.5% more than in the previous MY.
Ukraine since the beginning of the new 2020/2021 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of August 12, 2020 had exported 3.995 million tonnes of grain and legumes, which is 1.1 million tonnes less (due to corn) than on this date in the past MY.
According to the information and analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, to date, 2.26 million tonnes of wheat (131,000 tonnes more), 1.23 million tonnes of barley (133,000 tonnes less) and 499,000 tonnes of corn (1.1 million tonnes less) had been exported.
As of August 12 of this year, 24,200 tonnes of flour had been also exported.
As reported, Ukraine exported a record 57.2 million tonnes of grain, legumes and flour in the 2019/2020 MY, which is 13.5% more than in the previous MY.
As of July 23, 2020 Ukrainian farmers harvested 20.6 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from an area of 5.7 million hectares (38% of the forecast).
According to a report on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture posted on Friday, July 24, 12.8 million tonnes of wheat from an area of 3.5 million hectares (53%) was harvested, 6.4 million tonnes of barley from an area of 1.7 million hectares (75%), and 385,000 tonnes of peas from an area of 173,000 hectares (74%).
In addition, 1.2 million tonnes of rapeseed were harvested from an area of 623,000 hectares (55%).
According to the ministry, the leaders in terms of harvest volumes since the beginning of the harvesting campaign are Dnipropetrovsk (2.7 million tonnes from an area of 787,000 hectares), Zaporizhia (2.7 million tonnes from an area of 776,000 hectares), Kherson (2.5 million tonnes from an area of 823,000 hectares), Mykolaiv (2.5 million tonnes from an area of 844,000 hectares) and Donetsk (2.2 million tonnes from an area of 596,000 hectares) regions.The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture predicts that Ukrainian agricultural producers will harvest 68 million tonnes of grain crops in 2020 compared with 75 million tonnes in 2019.
