Ukraine since the beginning of the 2018/2019 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of June 21, 2019 had exported 48.902 million tonnes of grain and leguminous plants, which is 26.3% more than on the same date of the previous MY.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, farmers exported 29.2 million tonnes of corn, 15.5 million tonnes of wheat, and 3.5 million tonnes of barley.
They also exported 289,600 tonnes of flour on the indicated date.
As reported, with reference to the ministry, Ukraine exported 39.4 million tonnes of grain in the 2017/2018 MY.
Grain production in Ukraine in the 2019/2020 MY (marketing year, July-June) will increase to 94 million tonnes (in the 2018/2019 MY the figure was 92 million tonnes), President of the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) Mykola Horbachev has said at a press conference. “We expect 94 million tonnes of grain. Any overproduction will be in demand in the foreign market. Over the next three to four years, we expect production to increase to 100 million tonnes, and exports to 70 million tonnes,” he said.
According to him, areas under grain crops in Ukraine are stable, and the volume of production depends on the climate. Western regions of Ukraine are leading in production, and this trend will continue.
The expert also stressed that in the current season the maximum monthly volume of grain transshipment was 6 million tonnes, which dispels doubts whether the country will be able to increase exports to 70 million tonnes of grain in future.
Ukraine could increase grain exports to China in the 2019/2020 marketing year (MY, July-June), Olena Neroba, the adviser to the president of the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA), has said at a press conference. According to her, China this year has experienced a significant reduction in the number of pigs due to ASF, and since substitution of pork with imports is quite expensive and time consuming, China is likely to compensate for the deficiency of protein in poultry. This factor and the trade war with the United States will lead to an increase in demand for barley and other grains, which Ukraine can take advantage of, Neroba said. If earlier practically the only importer of Ukrainian barley was Saudi Arabia, then the opening of a new market will allow increasing the volume of exports of this crop and raising the price.
She also noted that Ukraine this season has felt some U.S. influence on the Egyptian market, which is one of the main consumers of Ukrainian corn. According to the expert, although the absolute figures of exports to Egypt increased slightly compared to last year, however, the share of Egypt in in the structure of Ukrainian grain exports declined.
Ukraine since the beginning of the 2018/2019 marketing year (MY, July-June) and as of June 14, 2019 had exported 48.3 million tonnes of grain and leguminous plants, which is 26% more than on the same date of the previous MY.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, farmers exported 28.6 million tonnes of corn, 15.4 million tonnes of wheat, and 3.5 million tonnes of barley.
Some 283,000 tonnes of flour had been also exported on this date.
As reported, with reference to the ministry, Ukraine exported 39.4 million tonnes of grain in the 2017/2018 MY.
Risoil S.A. boosted grain transshipments by almost 1.5 times to 1 million tonnes in the first five months of the 2019 calendar year, according to Risoil’s report on Facebook.
“In the five months of 2019, the group of Risoil terminals processed more than 1 million tonnes of grain for export. Last year, 682,000 tonnes were handled during the same period,” the statement said.
According to the company’s website, Risoil, TransBulkTerminal and Metinvest together with Odesa Railways have been implementing a pilot project to optimize cargo traffic. Within its framework, terminals and ports provide information on expected ship calls, the availability of free containers for grain, and the need to transport a particular grain crop. The railway, in turn, transports needed amounts of necessary crops. This allows participants in the project to optimize traffic, increase terminal unloading and reduce the turnover of cars.
As reported, Risoil S.A. in marketing year 2017/2018 increased the transshipment of grain freight by 20,000 tonnes, to 1.64 million tonnes, while oil handling grew by 11%.
Risoil S.A. was established in Geneva (Switzerland) in 2000. Its core business is logistics of oil, bulk and general cargo in the ports of the Black Sea, sale and production of vegetable oils, trade in grain and oilseeds in containers, storage and processing of agro-industrial products.
Risoil Terminal in Chornomorsk seaport was launched in 2016.

The ministry said that corn harvest could decrease by 7.5%, to 33.1 million tonnes, wheat harvest could increase 9.3%, to 26.9 million tonnes and barley – by 12.3%, to 8.2 million tonnes.

According to the USDA, wheat production in Ukraine this year may reach 29 million tonnes, corn – 33 million tonnes, barley – 9 million tonnes.
