New Ambassador of Mexico appointed to Kyiv

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Iryna Borovets received copies of credentials from the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Mexican States to Ukraine, Audencio Contreras Gonzalez.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the parties discussed issues of strengthening and intensifying bilateral relations, primarily in the political and economic spheres.

Borovets expressed gratitude for Mexico’s participation in the Global Peace Summit, which confirms the country’s commitment to the principles of the UN Charter. She emphasized the importance of joint efforts to establish a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

“The diplomats also exchanged views on Ukraine’s cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries and opportunities for further development of bilateral relations,” the statement said.

KAN Development invests $80 mln in construction of two schools in Kyiv

KAN Development will invest about $80 mln in the construction of two schools in Kiev. construction two schools designed for more than 2,000 pupils in total, Igor Nikonov, founder of the KAN Development development company, told Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

“We fulfill our social obligations to the residents of the Republic Residential Complex. Here will be the largest educational institution in our A+ network. The building of 25 thousand square meters will house Respublika STEAM І-ІІІІ school and A+STEAM kindergarten. We will strive to launch it already by September 1, 2026,” Nikonov said during the official start of the construction of the construction work on Monday.

The building, designed by archimatika, will be located on a 3.3-hectare plot of land and will consist of four separate educational blocks: kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school – united by a large 80×18-meter column-free central atrium with an amphitheater in the center.

According to Nikonov, the investment in launching the school (construction and equipment) is estimated at about $40 million.

In parallel, work is underway on another school, on McCain St., a project that went to KAN Development six months ago. “Historically, there were commitments by another company to build an American school there, but due to the war this project was stopped. We have now finalized its concept. There will be IT direction, from the first grade to 12,” Nikonov said.

Architectural workshop “A. Pashenko” is working on the project. The area of the building is about 26 thousand square meters. m. The school is also designed for about 1 thousand pupils. The volume of investments is $40 million.

“On the basis of this school we want to make a small university. For this purpose we have already allocated the premises, about 3 thousand square meters. m. Our goal is to provide in our A+ network continuous quality education up to 23 years of age, from kindergarten to getting a profession,” Nikonov said.

This school, too, is scheduled to open on September 1, 2026, but Nikonov said Respublika STEAM is a priority. “We’re all dependent on financial issues. We definitely have funds reserved for schools, but the STEAM school is more important because it is our commitment to the residents of the LCD,” he said.

He added that great attention is paid to ensuring safety: all 11 institutions of the A+ network will be provided with shelters. In schools under construction they are included in the projects, in existing schools they are adapted, if the existing solutions allow, or separate ones are built. In particular, two new shelters are being built for existing schools – for the elementary school in “Republic” and for the school in “Comfort Town”. The budget of each of the projects is UAH 70 mln.

French Development Agency to open representative office in Kyiv

A representative office of the French Development Agency will open in Kyiv in July 2024, the French Embassy in Ukraine reported on Thursday.

Klitschko: EUR 500 thousand raised for creation of prosthetics center in Kyiv

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that EUR 500 thousand was raised for the creation of a prosthetics center in the capital during a charity fundraiser in Berlin.

“For our prosthetics center, which we are creating in Kyiv with the help of Berlin, we raised a total of EUR 500 thousand yesterday,” he wrote in his telegram channel on Thursday.

According to him, almost EUR305 thousand were donations in cash. “In addition, German business will provide, among other things, equipment to the prosthetics workshop for five additional employees,” he added.

Klitschko thanked the German benefactors, as well as the Life bridge Ukraine organization and its head Janine von Wolfersdorf, who, together with the Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists, organized a charity evening to raise funds for the prosthetics center.

“I am also grateful to the mayor of Kyiv’s sister city, Berlin, Kai Wegner, with whom we convinced Berlin businessmen of the importance of a joint project to create a prosthetics center in Kyiv,” Klitschko said.

Reception on occasion of 78th anniversary of proclamation of Italian Republic was held in Kyiv

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Ukraine Pier Francesco Zazzo held a solemn diplomatic reception on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the proclamation of the Italian Republic in solidarity with Ukraine and compatriots who are currently living and working in Ukraine.

The term of office of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Ukraine, Pier Francesco Zazzo, will end at the end of June this year. On his last National Day as Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, the diplomat welcomed distinguished guests.

The solemn event was attended by heads of diplomatic missions of foreign countries accredited in Ukraine, representatives of the government, including Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis, businessmen, members of the Italian diaspora, educators and cultural figures.

Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine Pier Francesco Zazzo in his welcoming speech noted that this year Kyiv celebrates the Day of Proclamation of the Italian Republic again in tragic conditions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“We stand with a country that is fighting to defend values such as freedom and its national identity, and we will continue to provide our full support as long as necessary to achieve a just and sustainable peace,” the diplomat said.

The Ambassador emphasized that Italy, as a responsible member state of the European Union, NATO and the G7, will continue to provide Ukraine with comprehensive support at the bilateral and multilateral levels, in the political, economic, military and humanitarian spheres.

In his speech, Mr. Ambassador also emphasized that Ukraine is a priority topic of the Italian presidency of the Group of Seven and reminded that the first G7 Leaders’ Summit was convened by the Prime Minister of Italy Mrs. Giorgia Meloni in Kyiv, on the second anniversary of the beginning of Russian aggression, and noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been invited to the next Leaders’ Summit in Borgo Eniazia.

In conclusion, the Head of the Diplomatic Mission reminded that in 2025 Italy will host the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which demonstrates Italy’s long-term commitment to Ukraine’s economic recovery and expressed hope that a just and lasting peace for Ukraine will soon be achieved, respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, with security guarantees for its future.

Italy recognized Ukraine’s independence on December 28, 1991. Diplomatic relations with the Italian Republic were established on January 29, 1992.

Thunderstorms, hail, squalls in Kyiv on June 10 Hydrometeorological Center
