Wizz Air, one of the largest European low-cost airlines, will start flights from Kyiv to Leipzig from July 5, 2019, which will become the tenth city in Germany to which the air carrier will fly from Kyiv.
According to a press release of Wizz Air, flights in this direction will be performed twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.
With the launch of this flight, the total number of destinations to which Wizz Air flies from Ukraine will reach 45 in 13 countries, in particular 29 from Kyiv.
The report says since the beginning of this year the airline has transported about 450,000 passengers on its flights to/from Ukraine, which is more than 80% more than in the same period last year and, according to its data, makes Wizz Air the largest low-cost carrier in Ukraine.
In total, Wizz Air offers flights on more than 650 routes from 25 bases, connecting 146 destinations in 44 countries. The airline’s fleet consists of 109 Airbus aircraft. Last year the airline carried 34 million passengers.

Kyiv is the leader in the number of opened IT vacancies in Ukraine where 46.21% of all vacancies are offered, followed by Lviv with 15.42% and Kharkiv with 12.74%, the founder and CEO of CleverStaff product IT company Volodymyr Kurylo has told Interfax-Ukraine, referring to the company’s database.
According to him, the share of Odesa accounted for 6.34% of opened vacancies, and Dnipro’s – 5.82%.
“The most popular jobs in all these cities are the front end developer, QA, devops, project manager and product manager,” Kurylo said.
According to CleverStaff, in the labor market, demand for Front End (JavaScript) developers has doubled, and for QA engineers (testers) it grew by 67%, now the pros in these areas are 37% of all opened vacancies.
The head of CleverStaff added: if we talk about the level of a specialist – junior, middle, and senior, then the offers also differ depending on the city, but the leading position is occupied by senior.
Commenting on the pace of demand for IT specialists, Kurylo said that job offers for .Net, PHP, iOS developers over the past two years have halved, for Android – increased three times.
“Based on the changes in the number of vacancies in the CleverStaff database, we can predict that within two years in Ukraine there will be a demand for 7,600 front end developers, 7,200 testers, and 4,600 Java developers,” the specialist said.
CleverStaff, founded in 2014 in Odesa, is a product IT company developing an all-in-one software for applicant tracking and recruitment automation.
City Capital Group (CCG, Kyiv) of Israeli businessman Ofer Kerzner, managing the Platforma art factory in Kyiv, plans to invest more than $50 million in opening new offices in the capital in four years. “The office real estate market is coming to life. All experts predict an increase in the demand in this segment. IT companies are declaring a shortage of quality space. City Capital Group was created by Israeli businessman Ofer Kerzner in 2007 to implement projects in the field of development, construction and property management in Ukraine.
The Irish low-cost air carrier Ryanair from October 2019 will open flights from Kyiv to Madrid.
According to the airline’s press release, flights on the Kyiv-Madrid route will be operated four times a week as part of the Ryanair Kyiv Winter 2019 extended schedule, which will be launched shortly.
“The full schedule of Ryanair Kyiv Winter 2019 will be made public soon,” the airline said.
Flights will be carried out from Boryspil International Airport.
As reported, Ryanair announced that in 2019 it plans to open five new flights from Ukraine to Athens (Greece), Dublin (Ireland), Manchester (the United Kingdom), Sofia (Bulgaria), and Paphos (Cyprus) twice a week.
Kyiv Sikorsky Airport in January 2019 handled 224,600 passengers, which was 44.2% more than in January 2018.
The number of passengers on international flights was 219,800 people and that on domestic flights was 4,800 people, the airport’s press service said. The number of flights handled by the airport in January 2019 was 2,282, both arrivals and departures, which was 21.6% more than the same period in 2018. In particular, there were 1,965 international flights and 317 domestic flights.
The most popular international destinations in January 2019 were Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt), Warsaw (Poland), Minsk (Belarus), Vienna (Austria), Ankara (Turkey), Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Berlin (Germany). Odesa, Lviv, and Zaporizhia were popular domestic destinations.
Kyiv Sikorsky International Airport (Zhuliany) is located in the business center of the capital, seven km from the city center. It is the second largest airport in Ukraine in terms of the number of flights and passenger traffic.
The airport has three terminals with a total area is 21,000 square meters. Terminal B is a separate facility for business-class service, it is part of the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) system. The airport’s runway is able to handle B-737 and A-320 aircraft.
In 2018, the airport serviced 2.812 million passengers, which was 52% more than in 2017. The number of flights was 30,248, which was 30.1% more than 2017.
