Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air will soon start flights from Kyiv to Brussels-Charleroi and Paris-Beauvais Airports.
“Our newest added destinations of Wizz from Kyiv include: Dortmund, Memmingen (Munich West,) Brussels-Charleroi, Paris-Beauvais and Copenhagen,” says a message sent to the airline’s customers on Thursday.
At the same time, flights from Kyiv to Brussels-Charleroi and Paris-Beauvais are not currently shown in the booking system, while flights to Dortmund and Memmingen (Munich West) have been serviced by the company for several years, and those to Copenhagen since August 2017.
As reported, Wizz Air in January-May 2018 transported 425,000 passengers to/from Ukraine, which is almost twice as many as in the same period of 2017. “From Kyiv, we offer 1.3 million passenger seats this year, which is 79% up. And in total from Ukraine this year, we offer 1.67 million passenger seats,” Head of Corporate Communications at Wizz Air Sorina Ratz said late in June.
Ryanair, the largest European low-cost airline, will launch a new flight from Kyiv to Bydgoszcz, the administrative center of Poland’s Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, on October 31.
“+1 Ryanair flight from Boryspil to Poland as soon as this fall. In total, there are 17 directions handled by this company between Ukraine and the EU, and this fall there will be pleasant surprises from Europe’s No. 1 carrier!” Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan wrote on Facebook on June 26.
According to Ryanair’s booking system, flights to Bydgoszcz will be carried out twice a week – on Wednesdays and Sundays. Currently, prices start from EUR22 (one way).
Taking into account this route, Ryanair offers flights from Kyiv to six Polish cities and one destination to Germany, Spain, Lithuania, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and Sweden each, as well as two routes from Lviv to Germany and Poland each, and one to the United Kingdom.
Wizz Air to place its third plane in its base in Kyiv and will start flying from Kyiv to Lisbon, Tallinn and Berlin, and from Kharkiv to Katowice, the airline has said in a press release on the occasion of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of its operation in Ukraine.
“In 2018, the airline doubles its operations in Ukraine,” acting Corporate Relations Head at Wizz Air Sorina Ratz said.
In addition, the airline will increase the weekly frequency of flights to seven popular destinations, adding a total of 24 flights a week.
Placement of the third airbus A320 in Kyiv, according to the airline, will create 100 jobs.
Flights Kyiv-Lisbon will be serviced on Tuesdays and Saturdays from June 21.
Flights Kyiv-Tallinn will be serviced on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from June 21.
Flights Kyiv-Berlin will be serviced daily from July 1, and flights Kharkiv-Katowice – on Wednesdays and Sundays from June 20.

Bravo Airways will launch regular flights to Lublin from Kyiv, Kharkiv and Kherson from June 15, 2018. “We open new flights to Lublin from June 15, which will allow in 1.5 hours safely, comfortably and without changing to get from the airports of Kyiv, Kherson and Kharkiv to Lublin and back,” the airline said on Facebook.
The cost of flights starts from UAH 1,300. The fare also includes transportation of hand luggage and the ability to carry up to 23 kg of luggage free of charge. Regular flights will be available to both directions three times a week from Kyiv and Kherson and twice from Kharkiv.
As reported, earlier Bravo Airways launched charter flights from Kherson to Dalaman (Turkey). Bravo Airways was founded in April 2012. Its core business is passenger transportation on regular and charter routes. Since its founding, Bravo Airways has transported more than 500,000 passengers. The aircraft of the airline are based at Kyiv Zhuliany International Airport.
PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia estimates the cost of implementing high-speed rail service of up to 250 km/h between Kyiv, Odesa and Lviv via Vinnytsia at $16 billion, the director for strategic development and investment policy at Ukrzaliznytsia, Anton Sabolevsky, has told Interfax-Ukraine. “Within the framework of the working group on the introduction of high-speed rail traffic, we estimated how much the construction of infrastructure for organization of high-speed communication between Kyiv, Odesa and Lviv via Vinnytsia could cost in principle. To build this infrastructure, about $16 billion is needed, taking into account the acquisition of appropriate rolling stock, its service centers and management,” he said.
At the same time, he noted Ukrzaliznytsia has not calculated the cost of high-speed communication between all the regional centers of Ukraine, since the implementation of such a project goes beyond the long-term planning and can be carried out exclusively in stages.
According to him, the work on implementing the infrastructure project for organization of high-speed rail service along the Kyiv-Kharkiv route could take at least ten years.
Kyiv, Kharkiv and Rivne regions are leaders in the rating of Ukrainian regions, according to the social and economic development monitoring for 2017 drawn up by the Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Ministry of Ukraine.
According to the study, Kyiv city (Mayor Vitali Klitschko) and Kharkiv region (Head of Regional Administration Yulia Svitlychna) retain their positions for the second year in a row.
Kyiv city was first in most figures. In Kharkiv region, the smallest unemployment rate in Ukraine – 6.1%, and the highest share of power generated from alternative sources, as well as the level of the introduction of energy saving technologies – 30.4% and 72% respectively.
Rivne region is third (Head of Regional Administration Oleksiy Muliarenko). The region climbed by three positions compared with 2016. Dnipropetrovsk region is fourth (Valentyn Reznichenko). The region climbed six positions up.
Chernivtsi region is fifth (Oleksandr Fyschuk).
Outsiders of the rating are Luhansk, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and Odesa regions.
The study is conducted under government resolution No. 856 dated October 21, 2015 on the approval of the rules of conducting monitoring and assessing results.
