Ukraine suspends manganese ore exports in February-October 2024

In February-October 2024, Ukraine continued to suspend manganese ore exports, which resumed in January this year after a two-year break.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), there were no exports of manganese ore in February-October, while in January 44,903 thousand tons were exported to the US for $6.563 million.

At the same time, in ten months of 2014, the country imported 84.275 thousand tons worth $18.212 million from Ghana (99.34%), Brazil (0.50%) and Belgium (0.12%), and there were no imports in October.

Import growth occurred in July and August of this year, when 17.811 thousand tons of manganese ore were imported in July, 10.017 thousand tons in August, and in September it increased to 56.447 thousand tons. Ukraine imported 44.202 thousand tons of manganese ore in 10 months of 2013.

As reported, Ukraine did not export manganese ore in 2022 and 2023, exported 770 tons for $89 thousand in 2021, and imported 44.203 thousand tons for $7.020 million in 2023.

In 2022, Ukraine reduced imports of manganese ore and concentrate in physical terms by 68.1% compared to the previous year, to 135,798 thousand tons, and in monetary terms by 66.4%, to $18.098 million. The main imports were from Ghana (99.16% of supplies in monetary terms), Slovakia (0.71%) and Belgium (0.10%). In August-November 2022, there were almost no imports of manganese ore.

In addition, it was reported that the Pokrovsky Mining and Processing Plant (PGOK, formerly Ordzhonikidze Mining and Processing Plant), a part of the Privat Group, and Marhanetsky Mining and Processing Plant (MGOK, both in Dnipropetrovska oblast), in late October and early November, had been shutting down. ) stopped mining and processing crude manganese ore in late October and early November 2023, while NFP and ZFP suspended smelting of ferroalloys, and later ferroalloy enterprises slightly resumed production.

In Ukraine, Pokrovske and Marhanets mining and processing plants mine and enrich manganese ore.

Ukraine stopped imports of manganese ore

Ukraine in April this year stopped importing manganese ore and concentrate in physical terms, having previously reduced its imports to a minimum.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), Ukraine as a whole in January-April this year reduced imports of manganese ore and concentrate in kind to a minimum – to 488 tons from 91.021 thousand tons in the same period last year (down 99.5%).
In monetary terms, imports of manganese ore and concentrate amounted to $85 thousand in the mentioned period, while in January-April 2022 it was $12.248 million (a 99.3% decrease).
At that, imports were carried out from Slovakia (95.29% of deliveries in money terms) and from India (4.71%).
In 4M-2023, Ukraine did not export manganese ore and concentrate, as in January-April 2022.

Ukraine reduced imports of manganese ore by 64.6%

Ukraine in January-November this year, Ukraine has reduced imports of manganese ore and concentrate in kind by 64.6% compared to the same period last year – up to 135.070 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), in monetary terms, imports of manganese ore and concentrate fell by 62.7% to $17.978 million for the period.
In August-November, there were almost no imports of manganese ore.
For eleven months of 2022, Ukraine did not supply manganese ore and concentrate for exports.
As reported, Ukraine in 2021 decreased imports of manganese ore and concentrate in volume terms by 26.8% compared to 2020 – to 425.279 thousand tons. In monetary terms, imports of manganese ore and concentrate during this period decreased by 29.6% – to $53.917 million. At the same time, the main imports came from Ghana (99.87% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (0.07%) and Belgium (0.05%).
Last year, Ukraine supplied 770 tons of manganese ore and concentrate to Poland (94.38%) and Russia (5.62%) for $89 thousand, while in 2020, Ukraine exported 69.303 tons of manganese ore and concentrate worth $10.819 million.
In Ukraine, the Pokrovsky (formerly Ordzhonikidze) and Marganetsky mining and processing plants (both in Dnepropetrovsk region) extract and process manganese ore.

Ukraine in January-September this year reduced the import of manganese ore and concentrate in kind by 54.1% compared to the same period last year – up to 135.044 thousand tons.
According to statistics published by the State Customs Service (STS), in monetary terms, imports of manganese ore and concentrate for the specified period decreased by 50.7% – to $17.972 million.
In August-September, manganese ore was practically not imported.
At the same time, for the nine months of 2022, imports were carried out from Ghana (99.86% of supplies in monetary terms) and Belgium (0.1%) and Brazil (0.02%).
For nine months of 2022, Ukraine did not supply manganese ore and concentrate for export.

In August-September, manganese ore was practically not imported.

At the same time, for the nine months of 2022, imports were carried out from Ghana (99.86% of supplies in monetary terms) and Belgium (0.1%) and Brazil (0.02%).

UKRAINE SUBSTANTIALLY CUTS IMPORTS OF MANGANESE ORES

Ukraine in January-October this year reduced imports of manganese ore and concentrate in quantity terms by 30% compared to the same period last year, to 337,278 tonnes.According to statistics released by the State Customs Service, in monetary terms, imports of manganese ore and concentrate decreased by 35.1% over the period, to $42.262 million.At the same time, manganese ore and concentrate were imported from Ghana (99.84% of supplies in monetary terms), Brazil (0.08%) and Belgium (0.07%). In January-October 2021, Ukraine exported 434 tonnes of manganese ore and concentrate to Poland (90.2%) and Russia (9.8%) for $51,000 (no ore was exported in August-October), while in the same period last year it exported 47,342 tonnes of manganese ore and concentrate for $7.152 million
