UKRAINE BECOMES 16TH COUNTRY IN OVERALL MEDAL STANDINGS AND 44TH IN OLYMPICS MEDAL COUNT

The Ukrainian national team took the 44th position in the overall medal standings of the Olympic Games, which ended in Tokyo on Sunday.
A total of 153 Ukrainian athletes earned 19 Olympic medals: one gold, six silver and 12 bronze medals.
In overall medal totals, Ukraine took the 16th position in the world ranking, and also surpassed the result of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. Then the Ukrainian athletes earned 11 Olympic medals (two gold, four silver and five bronze medals).
The medal count, which is most influenced by gold medals, was topped by the U.S. team, which lagged behind leading China for a long time.
The U.S. team earned 39 gold, 40 silver and 33 bronze medals. The second place was taken by China (38-32-18). The third place was taken by Japan, the host country of the Olympics (27-14-17).
Ukrainian Olympians earned medals in Greco-Roman wrestling, artistic swimming, canoe rowing, boxing, high jump, karate, cycle track, freestyle wrestling and swimming.

UKRAINIAN CANOEISTS WIN SILVER AT OLYMPICS

Ukrainian canoeists Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasia Chetverikova took second place in pair canoeing among women’s duets at a distance of 500 meters at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine has reported.
“An incredible start to the 15th day of competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020! Ukrainian canoeists Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasia Chetverikova are Olympic silver medalists!”
This is the second medal for Luzan. She had previously won a bronze medal in single canoe rowing.

UKRAINIAN WINS BRONZE IN ROWING AT OLYMPICS

Ukrainian Liudmyla Luzan won a bronze medal in the single canoe competition at the Tokyo Olympics, finishing third in the final at a distance of 200 meters.
As the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine said on Facebook, the result of Luzan in the final is 47.034.
The athlete confidently passed the semifinals of the Olympics with the best result among her rivals of 47.339, but in the final she lost to the representatives of the United States (45.932) and Canada (46.786).
Now, Ukraine has one gold medal, two silver and nine bronze medals.

UKRAINIAN WRESTLER WINS GOLD AT OLYMPICS

Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler Zhan Beleniuk won the final bout in the up to 87 kg weight category at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and added the first gold medal to the Ukrainian team.
According to the official website of the Olympics, Beleniuk defeated Hungarian Viktor Lorincz with a score of 5:1.
This is the ninth medal in the overall standings of the Ukrainian team. The national team also has two silver medals and six bronze medals.

UKRAINIAN WINS BRONZE MEDAL IN FREESTYLE WRESTLING AT OLYMPICS

Ukrainian Alla Cherkasova at the Tokyo Olympics won the bronze medal competition in freestyle wrestling (up to 68 kg), having defeated Japanese woman, Rio Olympic champion Sara Dosho and took the third place in the standings.
The fight between the athletes began at 20:55 local time. The Ukrainian won a clear victory, having won the sixth bronze medal for the Ukrainian team at the Tokyo Olympics.
Earlier it became known that Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestlers Zhan Beleniuk and Parviz Nasibov defeated their rivals in the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics and advanced to the final of the competition, securing a minimum of silver.
In addition, Ukrainian athlete Iryna Koliadenko, who lost in the semifinals, losing to Kyrgyz athlete Aisuluu Tynybekova, will also fight for a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling (weight up to 62 kg).
The Olympic Games in Tokyo are held from July 23 to August 8. Ukraine has already won one silver and six bronze medals.

UKRAINIAN TENNIS PLAYER ELINA SVITOLINA WINS BRONZE MEDAL MATCH AT OLYMPICS

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina won the women’s singles bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics.
According to the website of the Olympics, Svitolina defeated her opponent, the representative of Kazakhstan, Elena Rybakina, following the results of three sets with a score of 6:1, 6:7, 4:6.
This is the fifth medal received by the Ukrainian team. As reported, earlier medals in their disciplines were won by shooters Olena Kostevych and Oleh Omelchuk, who became bronze medalists of the Olympics in shooting from a pneumatic pistol from ten meters, epee fencer Ihor Reizlin, judoka Daria Bilodid and swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk, who won bronze in the 800 swim meters freestyle.
