Primary registrations of new passenger cars in Ukraine in January-April this year increased by 31% compared to the same period in 2020, to 31,100 units, Ukrautoprom reports.
According to the association, including in April, primary registrations more than tripled compared to the same month in 2020, to more than 10,000 units.
However, such a significant increase is explained by an extremely low comparison base, which was caused by the strict quarantine restrictions due to COVID-19, which were in force in Ukraine in April last year, the association notes.
Compared to March of this year, the demand for new cars in April increased by 11%.
At the same time, the sales leader changed last month: Toyota came out on top with a nearly four-fold increase in sales to 1,618 units. Renault moved down to the second place, sales of which increased by 58%, to 1,215 cars.
The third position with more than three-fold growth in sales from April 2020 was kept by Kia with 830 units. The fourth result was shown by Skoda with 616 new cars (3.4 times more), and Volkswagen closes the five leading brands with more than nine-fold growth in sales with 482 cars.
According to the above statistics, in April, the Chinese Chery moved to the sixth position in the ranking (against the 15th in April 2020) due to an almost six-fold increase in registrations (up to 416 units).
The bestseller of the month was the compact crossover KIA Sportage with 640 new cars registered.
In January-April of this year, according to preliminary data, Ukrainian automakers produced 2,791 vehicles, which is 96% more than in the same period in 2020, according to the Ukrautoprom association’s website.
As reported, in January-March 2021, vehicle manufacturing exceeded production in the same period last year by 34%.
According to the association’s data, the growth in the production of motor vehicles was ensured by a 2.1-fold increase in the production of passenger cars, to 2,594 units.
At the same time, as reported, this happened after the resumption of production of cars at the Zaporizhia Automobile Plant (in September 2020), while in January-April last year, statistics on these cars concerned only the Eurocar plant.
At the same time, the production of commercial vehicles fell by some 33%, to 8 units (excluding AvtoKrAZ, which does not provide statistics), and the production of buses grew by 9%, to 189 units.
The association reported that in April this year, the production of vehicles grew by one third compared to March this year, and compared to April last year it rose 16 times, to 962 units.
Some 904 units of passenger cars were produced in April versus 59 units a year earlier, and compared to March 2021, almost 36% more.
A total of 56 buses were manufactured in April (one bus more than the March indicator, and in April 2020 not a single bus was made).
As for commercial vehicles, as in March, only two vehicles were assembled at the Cherkasy Bus plant (none in April last year).
Ukrainian vehicle manufacturers produced 1,829 vehicles in January-March of this year, which is 34% more than in the same period in 2020, according to a posting on the website of the Ukrautoprom association.
As reported, in January-February 2021, vehicle production exceeded the figure for the same period last year by 3%.
According to the preliminary data of the association, in the first quarter the production of passenger cars increased by 43%, to 1,690 units, production of buses decreased by 24%, to 133 units, and only six commercial vehicles were produced versus 12 a year earlier.
In March alone, car production increased 2.5 times compared with March 2020, to 722 units, including cars produced 2.7 times more – 665 units, which is also 48% more than the February indicator of the current year.
At the same time, the association recalled that in March last year, statistics in this segment were formed only by one plant – Eurocar, and the Zaporizhia Automobile Plant (ZAZ) resumed production of passenger cars only in September.
In the March statistics on commercial vehicles, as in the previous year, only two vehicles assembled at the Cherkasy Bus plant are announced, and AvtoKrAZ still does not disclose information on its production figures (since August 2016).
The production of buses in March grew by 37.5%, to 55 units.
