The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air on July 1, 2020 will open a new base at the Lviv International Airport, where it will place one Airbus A320 aircraft.
“It will become the second airline’s base in Ukraine. In addition, Wizz Air announces the opening of seven new routes to Billund (Denmark), Tallinn (Estonia), Lisbon (Portugal), Hamburg (Germany), Szczecin (Poland) from Lviv, and also from Kharkiv to Tallinn and Berlin (Germany),” the airline said on Wednesday.
Hungary’s low-cost airline Wizz Air has suspended its flights from/to its hub in the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv International Airport due to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on the temporarily closure of most Ukrainian airports. The airline said in a statement on Tuesday that flights from/to the Kyiv airport are annulled for the period from March 24 through April 14, 2020.
“Passengers with bookings affected by flight suspensions will be automatically informed via e-mail, in case the customers booked directly on wizzair.com or via the airline’s mobile app. 120% of the original fare will automatically be uploaded to the customer’s WIZZ account, with the amount to be used in the next 24 months for the purchase of Wizz Air products and services,” the airline said.
Passengers can also opt for a cash refund – which will take longer to complete – and will be informed about the necessary steps for a bank transfer or transfer to a bank card in a separate e-mail. In this case, customers will be eligible for only 100% of the original fare.
Passengers who made their bookings via travel agencies – including online travel agencies – should get in touch with the company from which they purchased their tickets, the airline said.
“Wizz Air sincerely apologizes for the disruptions the travel ban could bring to the customers and assures that safety and well-being of its passengers and crew remains the airline’s top priority,” the airline said.
Hungary’s low cost airline Wizz Air Holdings Plc plans to carry around 2.4 million passengers to/from Ukraine in 2019, which is 60% more than in 2018, Wizz Air Holdings Plc Chief Marketing and People Officer Johan Eidhagen said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He said that in January-September 2019, the airline carried 1.8 million passengers, which is twice more than a year ago.
Currently, the airline flies from four Ukrainian cities: Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Odesa, but from March 2020 also plans to start flying from the Zaporizhia airport.

Hungary’s low cost Wizz Air airline in autumn 2019 will launch flights to seven new destinations: six from Odesa and one from Lviv, Paulina Gosk, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air, said at a briefing in Odesa. “In 2019, 17 new destinations from Ukraine were opened,” Gosk said.
The airline expects that thanks to the increase in the number of destinations, 2.6 million seats will be sold this year, and in general, 53 destinations will be covered from Ukraine by the end of 2019, Gosk said.
As reported, in January-July 2019, Wizz Air transported 1.3 million passengers from and to Ukraine and this is almost twice as much compared to the same period in 2018.
