SWEDEN MISEN RECEIVES $47 MLN OF COMPENSATION FROM UKRAINIAN UKRGAZVYDOBUVANNIA

Misen Enterprises AB (Sweden) received $47.06 million from Ukrgazvydobuvannia (UGV), a subsidiary of Naftogaz Ukrainy, in an arbitration dispute over a stake in the Joint Activity in accordance with a ruling by the Kyiv Court of Appeal made on January 5, 2021.

According to the report of Misen Energy AB (publ) on its website, another UAH 1 million was received by another company under its control – Karpatygaz LLC.

Ukrgazvydobuvannia also paid UAH 236.11 million in nonresident income tax to the state budget.

According to the report, this compensation reflects Misen Enterprises AB’s and LLC Karpatygaz’s share of the replacement costs of the equipment subject to the joint ownership under the Joint Activity agreement.

“However, this compensation does not reflect the going concern value of Misen Energy AB (publ.)’s share at the time the exorbitant subsoil use tax was imposed on the Joint Activity, which led to the termination of the Joint Activity Agreement. Misen Energy AB (publ) and its partially owned subsidiaries reserve all their rights in this respect,” Misen said.

GERMAN RETAILER NEW YORKER TO OPEN STORE IN KHARKIV

The Retail & Development Advisor (RDA) consulting company acted as a broker when signing a lease agreement for the Nikolsky shopping and entertainment center in Kharkiv with the German brand of youth clothing New Yorker, RDA CEO Taisia Litovchenko has told Interfax-Ukraine. “We are glad that the pool of tenants in the Kharkiv-based Nikolsky shopping and entertainment center has been expanded by a well-known international retailer. We are sure that the New Yorker store will expand the range of goods in the shopping center and attract an additional flow of visitors,” Litovchenko said.

According to her, the total area of the store will be 1,549 square meters.

New Yorker is a German brand. Most of the assortment is reserved for youth sports and casual clothing, as well as underwear and accessories.

The New Yorker network has been developing in Ukraine since 2011.

According to the company’s website, as of January 11, 2021, the chain had 11 stores in Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Kryvy Rih and Sumy. On the international market, New Yorker is represented by more than 1,100 stores in 46 countries.

The Nikolsky mall is scheduled to open in the spring of 2021. The developer of the project is Budhouse Group.

EUROPEAN UNION STRESSES IMPORTANCE OF JUDICIAL REFORM IN UKRAINE

The European Union welcomes Ukraine’s progress in reforms, but significant work still needs to be done in this regard, in particular, judicial reform, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyi said.

“A significant part of the meeting today was devoted to reforms and their implementation. We see that Ukrainian government continues to take a number of very important steps in all directions. Despite this, there is still a lot of work to be done. This is very welcome, but we need to see further progress. This includes, in particular, the need for judicial reform. We are ready to help, and we continue to help Ukraine in this regard,” he said at a press conference after the seventh meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council in Brussels on Thursday, February 11.

Várhelyi said that the most important areas of reform for Ukraine are the establishment of the rule of law and judicial reform, the fight against corruption and economic reforms.

 

UKRAINE TO RECEIVE ASTRAZENECA VACCINE NEXT WEEK

The vaccine produced by AstraZeneca may be delivered to Ukraine next week, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Viktor Liashko said.

“We are waiting for the Pfizer vaccine. Perhaps the first will be the AstraZeneca vaccine. We will receive two products next week. There are questions about the Pfizer vaccine, which we receive as part of the COVAX initiative, which is supplied to Ukraine for free,” Liashko said on the air of the Right to Power (Pravo na Vladu) program on 1+1 TV channel on Thursday night.

He noted that bureaucratic processes are currently underway.

Liashko said that vaccines would be used in Ukraine after their registration.

According to the Chief State Sanitary Doctor, Ukraine has agreed on a contract for the supply of 12 million doses of vaccines produced by AstraZeneca and Novavax. The drugs will be shipped from India, where they are manufactured at the facilities of the Serum Institute.

Also, through the COVAX mechanism, Ukraine should receive from 2.2 million to 3.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the first half of the year.

UKRAINE CUTS COPPER IMPORTS BY 40%

Ukrainian enterprises reduced imports of copper and copper products in monetary terms by 40.3% in January 2021 compared to January 2020, to $9.666 million.

According to customs statistics published by the State Customs Service of Ukraine on Tuesday, exports of copper and copper products grew 3.2-fold, to $12.394 million in January 2021.

In addition, in January 2021, Ukraine reduced imports of nickel and nickel products by 17.5% compared to January 2020, to $6.576 million, aluminum and aluminum products by 7.6%, to $25.317 million. At the same time, the import of lead and lead products grew by 47.7%, to $786,000, tin and tin products remained unchanged at $152,000, the import of zinc and zinc products rose by 66.5%, to $7.043 million.

Exports of aluminum and aluminum products in January 2021 increased 41.8% compared to January 2020, to $10.51 million, lead and lead products grew by 21%, to $3.033 million, nickel and nickel products decreased by 8.1%, to $147,000. Zinc exports in January 2021 amounted to $1,000, while in January 2020 it was $39,000. Exports of tin and tin products in January 2021 amounted to $1,000, while in January 2020 it was $3,000.

ROBERTO BANFI RETIRING FROM MHP BOARD

Roberto Banfi, after two and half years as a non-executive director and a member of the International Government Relations and Public Affairs Committee, is retiring from the Board of Directors of MHP agricultural holding, effective immediately, the holding said on the London Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

According to the report, Banfi is becoming an Advisor to the Board with a possibility to join both Board and Committees meetings on a regular basis on invite from the Chairman of the Board and Chairmen of Committees.

As reported, in June 2018, the shareholders’ meeting of MHP agricultural holding appointed Banfi as a non-executive director with a planned contract term until 2021.

According to MHP, Banfi in 2014-2016 held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Brazilian company BRF in Europe and Eurasia – one of the world’s largest meat producers.

MHP is the largest producer of chicken in Ukraine.
