Ukraine and Poland will create a joint logistics venture designed to dramatically increase the volume of rail transportation of Ukrainian exports to the EU and to world markets through Europe, Ukrzaliznytsia said on Saturday evening. The corresponding memorandum was signed on that day by the prime ministers of the two countries Denis Szmigal and Mateusz Morawiecki in Krakow.
Ukrzaliznytsia noted that the creation of such a joint venture is the answer of the railway workers to the challenges posed by Russia’s aggression to both countries. In particular, we are talking about the need to expand railroads for goods that cannot be delivered through ports blocked by the Russians and part of the railway network of Ukraine, which today no longer has links with Russia and Belarus.
“We started preparing the concept of a joint venture with our Polish colleagues as early as a week after the start of the war. Combining the experience and knowledge of Ukrzaliznytsia managers and Polish colleagues will allow us to formulate unique logistics proposals for the European and world market, which refuses Russian deliveries and Russian logistics,” the statement says. in the release of the words of the head of the board of the company Alexander Kamyshina.
The parties also agreed to work together to increase cargo transportation across the western border of Ukraine, jointly solving technical and organizational problems: various customs rules, the use of different railway lines, and the search for free rolling stock.
The situation with the import of goods after the abolition of VAT and duties discredits Ukraine in front of neighboring partner countries and indicates abuses when importing goods under the guise of “humanitarian aid”, therefore, amendments to the regulatory framework will be proposed in the near future, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure said Mustafa Nayem.
“I think that in the near future, my colleagues from the Ministry of Finance and the Customs Service will propose to the Cabinet of Ministers appropriate changes to the regulatory framework in order to correct this situation without harming real volunteers,” he wrote on Facebook. According to him, there are dozens of BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, 2022 Audi Q7 and even Cadillac Escalade for UAH 3.1 million among them. Nayyem added that over the same period, “humanitarian aid” was imported into the country completely legally, without any customs payments, in the form of various fabrics – for UAH 360 million, mobile phones for almost UAH 200 million, and so on.
“Unfortunately, this is how some of our fellow citizens interpreted the government’s initiative to help volunteers and the army,” the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure stated.

British-Ukrainian Aid, bringing together the efforts of the UK and Ukraine, offers humanitarian and medical assistance to the wounded, veterans, orphans, the elderly, internally displaced persons, refugees and families who have lost their military breadwinner. All members of the group are volunteers and work on charitable projects after their main work.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said he wants the end of the war with Russia and spoke in favor of a diplomatic way to end it.
“I want to stop the war and end it. There is a diplomatic path, there is a military one. Any healthy person always chooses the diplomatic path, because he knows: even if it is difficult, it can stop the loss of thousands, tens of thousands, and with such neighbors hundreds of thousands, and maybe even millions of victims. I don’t want this. And any leader, whether he personally wants it or not, has no right to subjectively cancel the diplomatic path,” Zelensky said at a press conference in Kyiv on Saturday.
MHP Agroholding sold 159.02 thousand tons of chicken meat in January-March 2022, which is 3% more than in January-March 2021, while its sales in Ukraine decreased by 6% to 66.8 thousand tons , and exports increased by 9% – up to 89.34 thousand tons, the agricultural holding said on the London Stock Exchange on Friday.
According to its production report, the agrarian group produced 175.64 thousand tons of chicken meat during the reporting period (+5% compared to the first quarter of 2021). Thus, the agricultural holding managed to sell 90.5% of its products.
“From the start of the war, the company faced serious logistical and infrastructural problems in Ukraine. While MHP continued commercial sales in Ukraine from the start of the war, export sales stopped due to the closure of seaports, and export deliveries by road remained almost impossible,” clarified the chicken producer of the consequences of Russian aggression.
MHP also noted that it was forced to reduce the capacity utilization of poultry farming to 80-85% of the nominal in March due to reduced demand for chicken meat in Ukraine and logistical difficulties in exporting its products, due to which the agricultural holding is forced to look for alternative export routes.
In January-March 2022, the share of chicken exports reached 56% against 53% in the same period in 2021.
MHP in the report noted an increase in the price of chicken for the reporting period by an average of 28% compared to the first quarter of 2021 – up to $1.84/kg (excluding VAT), including in Ukraine up to $1.6/kg (+8%) , in export markets – up to $2.01/kg (+45%). The increase in prices was mainly due to a significant increase in prices for energy resources (mainly natural gas) and utilities.
