ISRAELI AMBASSADOR: OUR INVESTMENTS IN UKRAINIAN IT SECTOR MAY RISE AFTER LAW ON DIIA CITY ADOPTION

Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky expects the growth of Israeli investments in the IT sector of Ukraine after the adoption of the law on Diia City. “I believe that after the adoption of the law on Diia City new investments may come to Ukraine. We are already talking about a deeper participation of Israeli capital, Israeli companies in the IT market in Ukraine, as there are prerequisites for this. Now, together with the entry into force of Diia City, a legislative and tax base is being created. Therefore, I think that this direction today is very promising,” he told Interfax-Ukraine in an exclusive interview.
According to him, services related to the IT sector may also be included in the updated free trade agreement (FTA), the preparation of which will start in 2022.
“The IT sector is one of the main sectors of cooperation between Israel and Ukraine in recent years, as over half of the outsourcing of the Israeli high-tech today falls on Ukraine,” he said.
The ambassador also said “in Ukraine, there are 30,000 or 40,000 programmers for Israeli companies.”
“In other words, imagine that each of these programmers earns on average $3,000 to $4,000 a month at least, or even much more. But even if we take the minimum wages, it turns out that multiply 30,000 or 40,000 by $3,000 is the Israeli contribution to the Ukrainian economy, the contribution of Israeli companies,” Brodsky said.
On the other hand, according to him, “this is a Ukrainian contribution to the economy of our country, since Israel is sorely lacking in programmers.”
“Israeli high-tech is the locomotive of our economy. Income to the state treasury from high-tech is one of the most serious components of the Israeli national budget today. Therefore, if there are people in Ukraine who can help Israeli companies to fulfill their task, then that is great. This brings our countries closer together, and this is an absolutely mutually beneficial situation,” Brodsky said.
According to him, this direction is one of the basic in Ukrainian-Israeli cooperation, along with agriculture, irrigation and medicine. Brodsky said the company Netafim, which develops projects and sales of Israeli technologies in drip irrigation.
“Representatives of several Israeli companies recently visited the regions, and we hope that there will be a continuation, as the topic is relevant for both countries. We feel interest from Ukraine, the president spoke about this when he met our president here,” he said.

Since the beginning of the epidemiological season, which started on October 4, 2021, until December 19, 2021, about 7% of Ukrainians have had flu and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), including COVID-19, the Public Health Center (PHC) at Ukraine’s Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.
“In general, since the beginning of the epidemic season, from October 4 to December 19, 2021, some 7.0% of the country’s population has been ill [influenza and ARVI],” the message says.
The Public Health Center reported that during the specified period 3,220 Ukrainians fell ill with influenza-like diseases, 5,344 – with severe acute respiratory infection. At the same time, no deaths due to influenza have been registered.
In general, throughout Ukraine, the circulation of influenza viruses has not been recorded.

ANTONOV WANTS TO DEVELOPE AN-148 REGIONAL AIRCRAFT PROGRAM

The transfer of An-148-100 aircraft, previously operated by other airlines, to Ukraine has a positive effect for Antonov state-owned enterprise, Viktor Kazurov, the program director for An-148 and its modifications, said.
“For Antonov state enterprise, this is a new stage in the development of the regional passenger aircraft program, which will have a positive effect on their production,” he told Interfax-Ukraine, commenting on the recent statement by Sergei Turkin, the director of the Voronezh leasing company Ilyushin Finance Co, about the intention, as part of a civil aircraft remarketing strategy, to sell its remaining five An-148s, possibly to Ukrainian operators.
According to Kazurov, the use of An-148-100 by Ukrainian airlines will allow Ukrainian citizens to travel even from small regional airports with the level of comfort and speed of mainline liners, and the planes themselves will fly, not stand idle.
The director of the An-148 aircraft program positively assessed the appearance in Ukraine at the end of October of this year of a new airline Air Ocean Airlines, whose fleet includes An-148s.
“This airline appeared at the right time and in the right place. It is developing an actively growing niche of regional transportation,” he said.
Kazurov recalled that Air Ocean Airlines passed state certification on October 23, and on October 30 it made its first flight on the route Kyiv (Zhuliany)-Mykolaiv-Kyiv. Then in November the company opened flights from Kyiv to Zaporizhia, Lviv, Chernivtsi, and in December it connected Lviv and Kharkiv.
“We welcome the arrival of this company to the Ukrainian market, which contributes to the development of regions, the creation of new jobs, the promotion of An-148 aircraft. Before the New Year, Air Ocean Airlines plans to establish air traffic between Lviv and Zaporizhia, as well as Kyiv and Kharkiv. Antonov provides comprehensive support to the operator and resolves emerging issues as soon as possible,” the expert emphasized.
Kazurov clarified that Air Ocean Airlines plans to receive three or four more aircraft in the first half of 2022, and in the future to bring the fleet to ten aircraft of the An-148/158 type.
