DTEK Energy saw a net loss of UAH 16.522 billion in January-June 2020 compared with UAH 3.342 billion in net profit for the same period in 2019, according to the company’s report released on Monday.
The company’s revenue in January-June this year amounted to UAH 20.447 billion, which is 42.6% less than in the same period last year (UAH 35.626 billion, taking into account the revaluation).
According to the report, the gross loss amounted to UAH 0.732 billion compared with UAH 9.161 billion of gross profit in the first half of 2019.
DTEK Energy told Interfax-Ukraine that the company’s production and financial results continue to be affected by the systemic crisis in the energy sector.
Thus, in the first half of the year, coal production by the company decreased 23% compared to the same period last year, to 8.7 million tonnes, and electricity production decreased 36.2%, to 10.1 billion kWh.
An additional negative effect was caused by the depreciation of the national currency due to the general economic recession. Loss on exchange rate differences amounted to UAH 5 billion compared with a profit of UAH 2.6 billion in the first half of 2019.
“To normalize the operation of the energy market, it is necessary to remove restrictions that distort its operation and lead to an economic imbalance of the entire industry. Compliance with the principles of free pricing will make it possible to ensure financial recovery of both private and public generation,” DTEK Energy said.
Mobile communications operator Kyivstar is updating the prepaid tariffs Communication Unlim, Fun Unlim and Video Unlim, doubling the number of megabytes of Internet and minutes for calls to other networks.
The press service of the company said on Tuesday, in particular, in the tariff Communication Unlim subscribers will receive 60 minutes for calls to other networks and abroad, and 6,000 MB of mobile Internet (earlier this tariff included 30 minutes to other networks and 3,000 MB of the Internet). For those who do not need mobile Internet, the tariff has the No megabytes option.
The Fund Unlim tariff now includes 120 minutes for calls to other networks and abroad, 12,000 MB of mobile Internet and even more unlimited applications for entertainment.
For subscribers who choose the Video Unlim tariff, Kyivstar now gives 180 minutes for calls to other networks and abroad, and 18,000 MB of mobile Internet. All tariffs also include a free subscription to the Doctor online telemedicine application.
The operator said that all prepaid subscribers who will switch to one of the specified tariffs from September 1 can use the new conditions. This can be done, including by subscribers with the previous Unlim tariffs.
Since the beginning of 2020, Kyivstar has connected more than 6,000 settlements to high-speed mobile Internet. The operator plans to provide 90% of the Ukrainian population before July 2022 with access to 4G networks.
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air launches two new routes – from Lviv and Kyiv to Pardubice (the Czech Republic).
The press service of the airline reported on Tuesday that the Lviv-Pardubice flight will be operated from September 1 on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Flight Kyiv-Pardubice will be serviced from September 3 on Thursdays and Saturdays.
The cost of a one-way ticket without luggage starts from UAH 289 (CZK 269).
Wizz Air began operations in Ukraine in 2008 and has since transported more than 11 million passengers to/from Ukrainian airports.
Wizz Air currently offers passengers 86 destinations in 17 countries from five Ukrainian airports.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft intergovernmental agreement with the Republic of Singapore and Iceland on air traffic.
According to the relevant government decrees, the Cabinet of Ministers authorized Chairman of the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine Oleksandr Bilchuk to sign the relevant agreement.
According to the explanatory documents, this decree is provided by the need to conclude intergovernmental agreements on air services with these countries, which makes it possible to create a contractual legal framework necessary for the implementation of regular air traffic between these countries and Ukraine. This will intensify bilateral cultural ties, as well as economic relations between the countries, the government authorities said in the documents.
The agreement will determine the procedure for regulating international flights, the procedure for appointing airlines on the routes, provides for the mutual recognition of crew member certificates and others.
The Cabinet of Ministers intends to attract a $100 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for the Eastern Ukraine: Reconnect Recover Revitalize (3R) Project.
In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the composition of the delegation to participate in negotiations with the IBRD.
According to the draft resolution, the loan is planned to be attracted for a period of 27 years with a grace period of 12 years with a floating rate of LIBOR plus a variable spread.

The deficit of Ukraine’s consolidated balance of payments in July 2020 was $88 million, while in the same period last year the surplus was $1.3 billion, according to preliminary data published by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
According to them, the surplus of the current account of the balance of payments in July 2020 amounted to $360 million, while in July 2019 there was a deficit in the amount of $1 billion.
The volume of exports of goods in July 2020 decreased by 15.9% (in June 2020 by 6.7%), to $ 3.3 billion. The corresponding dynamics was due to a decrease in exports of ferrous and non-ferrous metals by 23.3% (by 18.7%), food products by 16.1% (5%), engineering products by 11.2% (by 4.7%), as well as export of mineral products by 21.4%, which in June grew by 3.6%.
At the same time, in July, export of chemical products increased by 25.7% (in June 2020 by 18.7%), in particular export of fertilizers by 7.5 times (2.3 times). In addition, export of industrial products rose by 7.3% (by 6.7%), and timber and wood products by 2.3% (by 3.9%).
For the seven months of 2020, exports to Asian countries in nominal terms grew (by $ 1.3 billion, or 15.3%), while exports to the EU, Africa and the Russian Federation decreased by $ 2 billion (19.4%), $ 414 million (14.3%) and $ 253 million (16.5%) respectively. Thus, the share of exports to Asian countries increased to 39.4% (from 31.6% in the same period of 2019) in total exports, and to the EU, Africa and Russia decreased to 33.1% (from 38%), 10.1% (from 10.9%) and to 5.2% (from 5.8%) respectively.
In July 2020, imports of goods continued to decline significantly, by 21.6% (in June by 16.9%), to $ 4.3 billion, in particular energy imports decreased by 1.8 times (in June halved), and non-energy by 15.5% (6.9%).
In the second month of summer, in particular, imports of ferrous and non-ferrous metals decreased by 20.4% (a month earlier by 10.9%), mechanical engineering products by 16.7% (by 6.6%), chemical products by 5.4% (by 4.5%), timber by 5.2% (by 10.8%), and import of industrial products decreased by 16.3%, while in June it increased by 3.2%.
