Decathlon Ukraine in June will open a store in the Riviera shopping center (Odesa) with an area of about 3,000 square meters, director general of the company Florent Guieu said in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
“We are opening in the Riviera shopping and entertainment center in Odesa in June. There are about 3,000 square meters. Today it will be the largest store in the chain in Ukraine,” he said.
According to him, Decathlon Ukraine intends to open stores in all major cities. Locations in Lviv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, as well as two or three sites in the capital are being actively discussed. We are considering premises with an area of 2,000-3,000 square meters in locations with good transport links.
“Our requirements for the capital involve location not far from the metro. At the same time, we are extremely attentive to the quality of the project and the quality of the partner – our values must coincide,” Guieu explained.
According to him, at least two more Decathlon Ukraine stores will be opened next year. “But I will want to open all four. We also have many projects at the concept stage,” he added.
French sportswear brand Decathlon, part of the international Auchan Group, will open a new store in the Prospekt shopping and entertainment complex in the spring of 2021, expanding its network in Ukraine to three stores.
“Another bright opening of a new tenant, the French brand Decathlon, is planned in Prospekt shopping mall scheduled for the spring of 2021. This will be the first Decathlon residence on the left bank of Kyiv,” the Arricano company said in a press release.
According to the press release, the area of the new store will be about 2,000 square meters.
The first Decathlon outlet with an area of 2,500 square meters was located in phase one of Retail Park Petrivka in March 2019. The construction of the store lasted four months, the investment amounted to EUR 1 million. The second store, with an area of 3,000 square meters, was opened in November 2019 near the Lavina Mall.
In addition, Decathlon has launched an online store, and delivery is available to all regions of Ukraine. The Decathlon Drive service also operates in the store located in Berkovetska Street.
The first Decathlon store opened in 1976 in France. The brand currently has more than 1.5 stores in 56 countries. Some 99% of the products in the chain’s stores are products of their own brands.
The Frenchsportswear brand Decathlon, part of the Auchan Group, on March 23, 2019 opened its first store in Kyiv and plans to focus on expansion in this city in the coming two years.
“We have a plan, but it is still variable. This year we may open another store in Kyiv. Next year, new stores will also be in Kyiv. In 2021, the Decathlon brand will go beyond the city to Odesa, Lviv and possibly other major cities,” CEO at Decathlon Ukraine Florent Guieu told Interfax-Ukraine during the opening of the first store on Saturday (March 23).
The first outlet of the sports brand is located in the first line of Retail Park Petrivka. Its area is 2,500 square meters. The construction of the store lasted four months, the volume of investments amounted to EUR 1 million.
In addition, on the eve of the opening of the bricks-and-mortar store, Decathlon launched an online store. Delivery is available in all regions of Ukraine.
“Our main goal today is to open the first Decathlon store in Kyiv. First, we will learn more about the preferences of Ukrainians. Based on this knowledge, we will be able to think about opening a store in another city. Our dream is to have at least one store in each region,” the company said in a press release, citing Guieu.
According to him, the format of Decathlon stores will be 2,000-3,000 square meters, but the company may be testing the shops of a smaller format.
“It is hard to say how many we can open stores in Ukraine in general. For example, in Romania it took 10 years to open 25 stores, and now they are the leader in the local market. In Poland, in 15 years, 60 stores have opened and there Decathlon also occupies the leading position. It is not yet known how much and how quickly we will open stores in Ukraine, as this will directly depend on demand,” Guieu said.
The first Decathlon store was opened in 1976 in France. Currently, the brand has more than 1,500 stores in 56 countries. 99% of products in chain stores are goods of their own brands.
The French sportswear brand Decathlon, part of the international Auchan Group, is to launch an online store in Ukraine in the spring of 2019 simultaneously with its first physical retail outlet, and announces plans to expand production in the country. “In six months, in the spring of 2019, we will open our first store in the north of Kyiv – in Retail Park Petrivka. Simultaneously, we will open an online store,” CEO of Decathlon Ukraine Florent Guieu said at a press conference on Tuesday. According to him, the company plans to cover the entire territory of Ukraine with its online store. The delivery of goods will be carried out from a warehouse located in Poland near the border with Ukraine. The online store will offer both delivery and customer pickup from the physical retail outlet.
Guieu also said that the company plans to expand production of own goods in Ukraine, which was launched in 2012.
“Ukraine is a fantastic country for production. We want to maximize the capacities for the production of footwear and non-technical goods here. We will try to produce more in Ukraine for the European market … Production is partnership, we do not own production facilities [in the countries of presence] with a few exceptions,” Guieu told Interfax-Ukraine in a comment.
In Ukraine, Decathlon produces goods in Zakarpattia, Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
