Ukrnafta ranked among top two diesel fuel importers in January with share of nearly 15%

Ukrnafta JSC became one of the largest importers of diesel fuel in January 2026 and ranked among the top two in terms of volume, the company reported on Monday.

“The state-owned company imported 68,000 tons of Arctic and winter diesel fuel into Ukraine, which is almost 15% of the total volume of imports during this period,” Ukrnafta said.

Most of the fuel was purchased from the Polish state-owned concern Orlen, with purchases also made from Romania’s OMV Petrom and Lithuania.

“The company is working to provide customers with high-quality Euro-5 fuel, so in January it focused on purchasing Arctic diesel, which is recommended for use in extremely low temperatures,” said Ukrnafta CEO Bohdan Kukura.

According to the consulting group A-95, a total of 455,600 tons of fuel were imported into Ukraine in January 2026, which is 44% more than in the same period last year.

As reported, according to the top 10 A-95’s top 10 largest importers of light petroleum products in 2025, Ukrnafta ranked seventh with an annual volume of 424,000 tons, increasing its imports by 288% (109,200 tons) compared to 2024.

JSC Ukrnafta is Ukraine’s largest oil production company and operates the largest national network of gas stations, UKRNAFTA. The company has 1,807 oil and 164 gas production wells on its balance sheet.

In 2024, the company entered into asset management with Glusco. In 2025, it completed an agreement with Shell Overseas Investments BV to purchase the Shell network in Ukraine. In total, it operates 663 gas stations.

Gasoline and diesel fuel prices in Ukraine rose by 2-4 hryvnia per liter in January

According to data from the A-95 consulting group, retail prices for diesel fuel rose from 58.3 to 59.9 hryvnia per liter, or by 1.6 hryvnia per liter, between January 5 and January 30. while prices for A-95 gasoline rose from 58.2 to 60.3 hryvnia per liter, or by 2.1 hryvnia per liter.

According to A-95 director Sergey Kuyun, the reason for the rise in fuel prices in January is the global increase in oil prices.

“Today is January 30. Since the beginning of the month, the price of oil has risen from $60.7 to $70.7 (+16.5%). Global diesel fuel prices for the same period rose from $614 to $714/t (+16.2%),” he wrote on his Facebook page at the end of last week.

The expert also noted that wholesale prices for automotive diesel fuel in Ukraine rose from 48.52 to 52.46 UAH/liter, or by 4 UAH/liter (+4%), over the same period.

“In other words, we see that global prices rise first, followed by wholesale prices, and only then retail prices,” he said.

At the same time, according to A-95, prices for autogas rose by only 0.7 UAH/liter between January 5 and 30, from 37.6 to 38.3 UAH/liter.

Ukrzaliznytsia will buy 10 thousand tons of diesel fuel from Ukrnafta

Ukrzaliznytsia JSC (UZ) will purchase 10 thousand tons of diesel fuel from state-owned Ukrnafta PJSC following the fourth tender for the purchase of diesel fuel through Prozorro Market, the company said in a telegram on Wednesday.
According to the release, Ukrnafta offered the best price of UAH 50.97 thousand per ton.
It is noted that Ukrzaliznytsia will sign a contract with the winner in the near future. It is specified that all diesel should be painted to prevent theft.
Earlier, UZ has already purchased 25 thousand tons of diesel fuel through Prozorro Market at prices of UAH 50.5 – 52.9 thousand per ton. The company notes that, taking into account the Platts indices at the time of the selection of the winners, this corresponds to the prices of direct contracts with European producers, including all related costs for delivery and customs clearance.
In particular, in June 2024, Ukrnafta was awarded contracts for the supply of 15 thousand tons. In July, the winner of the tender for 10 thousand tons was Sokar Ukraine Trading House LLC.
It is noted that both winners at the stage of their registration in the electronic catalog of the electronic procurement system were qualified by the Professional Procurement State Enterprise and guaranteed that their products were not of Russian, Belarusian or Iranian origin.
As reported, UZ used to buy diesel directly from European producers, but in April 2024, after amendments to a government decree, the company no longer has this option and can only buy diesel through Prozorro.

The private oil corporation ExxonMobile has delivered 30,000 tons of diesel fuel by tanker to the port of Klaipeda in Lithuania, from where it will be transported by Ukrzaliznytsia to Ukraine to provide a reserve for the stable passage of the winter season, UZ said on Friday.

“Taking into account the available diesel fuel reserves, Ukrzaliznytsia has actually provided the necessary volume for the stable passage of the winter season,” UZ said in a statement.

It is noted that the contract for the supply of this batch of diesel fuel was signed on November 17, and five days later, the shipment began in the port of Klaipeda.

According to UZ, the price for diesel fuel including delivery, excise and customs clearance is quite favorable for the company and will be approximately UAH 52 thousand per ton or UAH 43-44 per liter.

“The final price will be calculated on Monday, five days after the notification of readiness for shipment according to Platts indices,” UZ said.

It is noted that thanks to the agreement with ExxonMobile, UZ saved UAH 2-3 per 1 liter of diesel fuel, as, according to the consulting agency, its cost in Ukraine in wholesale was UAH 46/l, and in retail – UAH 55/l.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia’s calculations, the company has already saved about UAH 1 billion on diesel by reducing consumption and through direct contracts with producers.
