Lithuania can help Ukraine to export 1 mln tons of grain by rail

The Lithuanian government may help Ukraine export up to 1 million tons of grain by rail after Poland temporarily banned grain imports from Ukraine, said Lithuanian Economy and Innovation Minister Ausrini Armonaitė.
“The port of Klaipeda and Lithuanian Railways can play an important role in creating momentum to help Poland resolve the situation and guarantee grain exports outside the EU. Lithuania could help safely transport up to 1 million tons of grain from Ukraine by rail. This would be a real solution for Ukraine and a benefit for Poland,” Verslo zinios quoted the minister as saying.
In turn, the president of the Association of Lithuanian Sea Cargo Companies Vaidotas Shileyko noted that the port of Klaipeda is able to process more than 1 million tons of grain a year, but because of the difficult logistics, it is impossible to import more.
“Lithuanian railroads started transporting small volumes of Ukrainian grain through Poland to the port of Klaipeda last May. The main problem here is different railway gauges: Ukraine and Lithuania still use Russian gauges, while Poland uses European ones, which means that rolling stock has to be changed at the border,” he explained.

Vitali Klitschko said that capital will help in restoration of cities and towns in Kyiv region

The authorities of Kyiv will assist in the restoration of cities and towns of the metropolitan agglomeration, which suffered the most during the defense of Kyiv from Russian invaders.
With such a proposal, the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, addressed the heads of local communities, the press service of the mayor reports.
“Jointly defending the capital from the Russian aggressor, we once again became convinced of the importance of our unification into the Kyiv Agglomeration Association, which we created in 2019. We united not only in the defense of Kyiv and our communities, but also in providing volunteer assistance, supporting the military and temporarily displaced citizens. I am convinced that we must join forces in rebuilding, restoring our cities and towns, housing and infrastructure for our citizens,” he said.
In this regard, Klitschko put forward a proposal to the territorial communities for help from the center of the Kyiv agglomeration – Kyiv.
“In particular, in the form of a subsidy for the restoration of facilities damaged by Russian barbarians during the hostilities in the suburbs of Kyiv in February-March 2022. Because our communities together make up a big Kyiv, and we must jointly restore and develop it,” he emphasized.
