Тhe European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Sweden have issued funds for an information campaign to promote a solid waste treatment project in Lviv, for which the EBRD together with environmental funds allocated EUR35 million. “In Ukraine, more than 95% of solid waste is brought to landfills, 99% of which do not meet EU standards and carry environmental, safety and health risks. In Sweden, in 2018 less than 1% of solid waste was brought to landfills, and more than 99% was recycled,” Ambassador of Sweden Tobias Thyberg said during the official launch of the program in Kyiv.
Within the framework of the project, which is designed for three years, a number of Internet resources will be created, as well as events with mass media, the public and non-governmental organizations will be carried out. The communications agency Noblet Media CIS is implementing the project, and its cost is not disclosed.
“Today, garbage is an element of politics. I would like this issue to be outside of politics,” Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy said.
According to him, after setting fire to the landfill in the Velyki Hrybovychi village, the city has been suffering a garbage blockade for almost two years, and the EBRD and other European partners came to the rescue first. The mayor noted that the city is very interested in the implementation of this project, since it annually has to spend UAH 300 million on garbage removal.
A consortium of Vekto Sp. z o.o. (Poland) and Iridex Group Plastic s.r.l. (Romania) has been recognized the winner of an international tender to implement a project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the government of Sweden for integrated reclamation of a landfill site in the village of Velyki Hrybovychi outside Lviv, Director of Lviv municipal enterprise Zelene Misto (“Green City”) Vadym Nozdrya said in Kyiv. Speaking at a presentation of a campaign to support the project, he specified that this decision had already been agreed with international lenders and the contract with the winner is expected to be signed by the end of this year, which will allow the contractor to begin work as early as at the beginning of 2020.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy emphasized that the city is extremely interested in the speedy implementation of the project, as today it is forced to spend UAH 300 million annually on garbage collection over the closure of the Hrybovychi landfill.
According to Nozdrya, work on technical rehabilitation in Hrybovychi has been ongoing since July 2019 and should be completed in 2021. During this time, the contractor must perform work on leveling and terracing the entire surface of the landfill, cover it with a technological protective screen and carry out the construction of utility systems.
Active preparations at the landfill are under way: the removal of contaminated soil from the landslide that occurred in 2016, along with the removal of lakes with filtrate water, he said. Hrybovychi landfill rehabilitation costs are estimated at EUR11.8 million, plus EUR1.8 million for work with filtrates. Zelene Misto is the commissioner of the work.
Passenger traffic at Lviv International Airport in January-November 2019 amounted to 2.046 million people, which is 39.3% more than in the same period in 2018, the company’s press service reports on Facebook. The number of flights in January-November reached 17,485 (14,960 international and 2,530 domestic), which is 23.6% more than in January-October last year.
In November-2019, some 173,900 passengers used the airport services (152,500 on international flights, 21,400 on domestic flights), which is 39.2% more than in November 2018. At the same time, the number of flights last month increased by 10%, to 1,358 (1,110 international and 244 domestic).
As reported, Lviv airport in 2018 increased passenger traffic by 48% compared to 2017 – up to 1.598 million people.
Lviv International Airport is located 6 km south of the city center.
!FEST holding of emotions (Lviv) plans on December 13 to launch the first hotel project in its portfolio – the seven-storey !FEST hotel with 69 rooms, a restaurant and a cafe, the company’s press service has told Interfax-Ukraine. “On December 13, 2019 we are opening a new business project in the holding of emotions !FEST – the first hotel. We thought that it needed a modern visual language to communicate with our guests. And we decided to make the facade of the hotel with corten steel, which over time under the influence of weather factors will turn into an art object in Lviv,” co-owner of the holding Andriy Khudo said.
The object will be located on the site of the former office of the company at 15a Lemkivska Street. The seven-storey hotel includes 69 rooms, a restaurant, a cafe and various services, including the ability to order branded products presented in the holding’s restaurants, namely beer, chocolate, cherry liquor, etc.
The holding of emotions !FEST was founded in 2007 and is developing a network of creative restaurants, coffee houses and shops in Ukraine.
One of the first opened objects of the holding is the restaurant Kryivka in Lviv, among other establishments with the original concept are Masoch-Cafe, Lvivska Kopalnia Kavy, Rebernia, etc.
!FEST also develops residential construction, the apartments Just Lviv It, a network of stores, catering, etc.

Motor Sich airline cancels most flights from Kyiv to Odesa and Lviv, focusing on flights from Zaporizhia to Kyiv and Minsk (Belarus).
According to the airline’s Facebook page, flights to Kyiv will be operated twice a day, to Minsk four times a week.
The airline said flights from Kyiv to Odesa and Lviv were canceled from November 9 to December 20. At the same time, the number of flights from Zaporizhia to Kyiv and Minsk doubles.
Motor Sich airline is a structural subdivision of PJSC Motor Sich (Zaporizhia), an enterprise developing, manufacturing, repairing and servicing aircraft gas turbine engines for airplanes and helicopters, as well as industrial gas turbine units.
Currently, the airline operates a fleet of nine aircraft, carrying out regular passenger international and domestic flights, passenger and cargo charter flights, as well as special flights that support the operations of the main company.
The airline’s base airport is Zaporizhia International Airport.

Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine is mulling the possibility of concession of the Lviv airport, Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy said on the sidelines of the RE:think. Invest in Ukraine forum opened in Mariupol on Tuesday.
“Among the state-run airports, we have only two – Boryspil and Lviv. It is more rational to talk first about the Lviv concession,” the minister said.
He said that the Boryspil airport already has its own development strategy, which it is now successfully implementing on its own, and this also needs to be taken into account.
“Concession has a very simple formula. If a project is troubled or unprofitable, it can be transferred to a concessionaire under very favorable conditions for obligations to increase traffic, and other things. If this is a profitable activity, as in the case of the Boryspil [airport], the issue is ambiguous, because the Boryspil [airport] grows on average in passenger traffic by 15-20% annually… If an investor is ready to take on obligations to increase passenger traffic two or three times faster, then it is already possible to speak about it. But I am not sure that someone will undertake such obligations,” Krykliy said.
As reported, in September, the Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine announced that it was preparing pilot projects for the transfer of regional airports to concession.
