JSC Kyivstar, the mobile communications operator, in July-September 2019 increased general income by 18.3% year-over-year, to UAH 5.828 billion, the company’s press service reported on Monday, referring to its quarterly financial statements.
The press service said that over the period Kyivstar increased earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) by 33.1%, to UAH 3.772 billion, and EBITDA margin grew by 7.2 percentage points (p.p.), to 64.7%.
Revenue from mobile operator services in the third quarter amounted to UAH 5.466 billion, which is 18.8% higher than the indicator for the same period in 2018.
The volume of data traffic consumption increased 69.1%, to 3.969 GB per subscriber. At the same time, the consumption of voice services remained stable: on average 566 minutes per subscriber were used, which is 0.3% more than a year earlier.
The number of Kyivstar mobile Internet users increased 12.1%, to 16.3 million, and the total number of active subscribers by the end of the third quarter was 26.4 million, which were 200,000 less than a year earlier.
According to the company, average revenue per user (ARPU) from mobile communications increased 19.9%, to UAH 69.
Revenue from fixed line services increased 10.3%, to UAH 333 million. At the same time, the number of subscribers increased 11%, to 1 million. Fixed line Internet ARPU grew by 4.3%, to UAH 74.
Capital investments for the reporting period amounted to UAH 1.37 billion, which is 85.8% more than for the same period last year.
In general, in January-September 2019, Kyivstar increased revenue 20.9%, to UAH 16.577 billion, and EBITDA – 37.7%, to UAH 10.652 billion.
Kyivstar is the largest Ukrainian mobile operator. It provides communication and data transfer services based on a wide range of mobile and fixed line technologies, including 4G.
Lifecell mobile operator in July-September 2019 increased its net loss by 82.3% compared to the same period in 2018, to UAH 338.3 million, the company has said.
According to the interim report, the operator’s income in the third quarter increased by 11.8%, to UAH 1.529 billion, EBITDA by 32.9%, to UAH 810.5 million. At the same time, the EBITDA margin increased by 8.4 percentage points, to 53%.
The Lifecell active subscriber base for July-September 2019 decreased by 9.2% compared to the third quarter of 2018 and amounted to 6.9 million users, while the total base by 10.9%, to 9 million.
The average revenue per user (ARPU) of the active subscriber base increased by 26%, to UAH 74.7.
The operator’s capital investments for the specified period amounted to UAH 547.7 million, which is 34.4% less than for the same period in 2018.
Compared to the second quarter of this year, the active subscriber base in the third quarter rose by 100,000 people, revenue by 3.2%, EBITDA by 1.5%, net loss by 15.4%, and capital investments by 56.5%.
Kyivstar, a mobile operator, has connected 50 more settlements in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Khmelnytsky regions to the 4G network, the company’s press service has said.
Such an opportunity, in particular, appeared for subscribers in the settlements of Turbiv, Perehinske, Bilohirya, Hnezdychiv, Iziaslav, etc.
Kyivstar’s 4G network operates in 6,867 settlements, 90% of which are located in rural areas. The total number of residents in the territory of 4G accessibility is over 29 million people, or 70% of the population of Ukraine.
Over 7.5 million subscribers used 4G services in Kyivstar network.

Kyivstar mobile operator starting from October 1, 2019 launches four tariff plans for new customers within the Kyivstar All Together line.
According to the company’s press service, all new tariff plans include home Internet with a speed of 100 Mbps, unlimited calls within the Kyivstar network and unlimited non-tariff Internet for using 42 applications. Among them are Google Maps, Snapchat, Pinterest, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Spotify, Netflix, as well as the online games Minecraft, World of Tanks BLITZ, the Steam service, etc.
The new Kyivstar All Together Basic tariff, in particular, provides subscribers with 120 minutes to the numbers of other telecom operators, as well as 12GB of mobile Internet.
Within the Kyivstar All Together Favorable tariff, subscribers will have unlimited mobile Internet and 180 minutes for calls to other mobile operators and abroad, as well as 180 SMS for sending within Ukraine.
The Kyivstar All Together Generous tariff includes unlimited mobile Internet and 300 minutes for calls to other mobile numbers in Ukraine and abroad.
The Kyivstar All Together Gaming tariff is designed for fans of the World of Tanks online game. It has additional gaming advantages. In addition, this package includes 300 minutes for calls to other mobile operators in Ukraine and abroad, as well as 300 SMS within Ukraine.
The Vodafone Ukraine mobile communications in April-June 2019 saw UAH 3.8 billion in revenue, which is 20.7% more than a year ago.
According to the financial report of the operator, its net profit for the period remained at the level of 2018 and amounted to UAH 511 million.
Operating Income Before Depreciation and Amortization (OIBDA) increased 13.8% and reached UAH 2 billion, OIBDA margin amounted to 51.7% (54.9% in the second quarter of 2018).
“The main reason for Vodafone’s revenue growth was the increase in the number of data users and the consumption of data services. The traffic volumes are growing due to the activity of 4G users: for example, the 4G client Vodafone used 7.7 gigabytes of traffic per month on average. This is twice as much than 3G clients use. The total volume of Internet traffic in the Vodafone network has doubled over the year,” the operator said in the report.
At the same time, the company said that according to the results of April-June, Vodafone Ukraine had the lowest ARPU (average revenue per user per month) in the market – UAH 61.
Income from trading activities in the second quarter increased thanks to the expansion of own retail. “Today Vodafone Retail is one of the largest retailers in the country. The company’s trading network today has about 240 own stores. Vodafone stores offer only certified products: smartphones, various gadgets, wearable electronics, routers, accessories. You can also connect any Vodafone services in the stores and get qualified advice from the company’s experts,” the company said in the press release devoted to the financial statements of the company.
In addition, according to the results of April-June, the number of Ukrainian settlements covered by 4G increased four times. Today, Vodafone network is available to 62% of Ukrainians and covers more than 4,000 settlements.
According to the results of the second quarter, the number of Vodafone Ukraine customers amounted to 19.6 million, while according to the results of the second quarter of last year, the operator had 20.3 million customers in Ukraine.
“Among the growth factors, launch of mobile number portability service in Ukraine can be noted. In May-June, 3,657 customers used the service to go to the Vodafone network with their number,” the company said.
The Kyivstar mobile communications operator has launched Network Expert application for analyzing the quality of the network operation, the operator reported on Wednesday.
Reports that subscribers will transmit through the application will help plan network expansion and installation of new equipment.
The application helps to check the quality of coverage of the mobile operator’s network, the quality of telephone calls, the speed of the mobile Internet, and the quality of service provided in roaming.
The Network Expert monitors the network status of the operator’s network and, in the event of difficulties, sends reports directly to the company’s technical experts. Also, subscribers can independently check and send information through the application, without the need to make calls to the Call Center, Kyivstar said.
The application is available for Android-smartphones.
