Now new markets for Ukrainian products are opening today, and the compatibility of the poultry exports public supervision system is being assessed, and in 2019-2020 it is expected that markets of 24 states will open, the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumers’ Rights Protection has said. According to a report on the website of the authority, over the past two years, 21 countries have opened new markets for Ukrainian poultry products. In particular, the markets of 14 countries were opened for the export of poultry meat and products and the markets of seven countries for the export of eggs and egg products. As reported, in the middle of December 2018, Ukraine and Morocco agreed on a veterinary certificate for the export of Ukrainian egg products, and in November, Ukraine and Tunisia – for the export of Ukrainian poultry meat.
Ukraine in January-November 2018 increased exports of poultry by 22.2%, to 303,890 tonnes, the State Fiscal Service reported on its website.
At the same time, according to the service, in monetary terms exports of these products increased by 32.8%, to $471.98 million.
Imports of poultry meat and offal for the 11 months of 2018 grew by 13.8%, to 121,670 tonnes, in monetary terms by 10.7%, to $48.42 million.
According to the service, export of pork in January-November 2018 decreased by 2.8 times compared with the corresponding period of 2017, to 1,650 tonnes. This product was delivered in the amount worth $3.55 million against $9.99 million in the 11 months of 2017.
During this period, imports of pork to Ukraine increased by 5.1 times, to 26,340 tonnes. Pork was imported to the country for $48.22 million against $9.15 million in January-November 2017.
Novaagro group of companies in October 2018 commissioned the first line of the Morozivka Agro poultry complex (Kharkiv region) with a capacity of 220,000 birds.
“The company announced plans for reconstruction in April of this year, and in October 2018 put into operation the first line with a capacity of 220,000 birds,” the report on the group’s website says.
At the same time, the group acquired Balakliya Poultry Breeding Company, which owns two operating poultry farms and a slaughterhouse with a capacity of 3,000 birds per hour (all facilities are located in Kharkiv region).
“Thus, after the reconstruction and acquisition of the existing sites, Morozivka Agro poultry complex consists of three poultry farms with a total capacity of 650,000 birds and a slaughter plant with a capacity of 3,000 birds per hour,” the group noted.
Novaagro group of companies has been working in agribusiness in the Ukrainian and international markets since 2009. The group includes four operating companies specializing in cultivation, sale, export of grains and oilseeds, poultry farming, warehousing, production and sale of animal feed, wheat flour, and granulated bran.
Myronivsky Hliboprodukt (MHP) sold 160,780 tonnes of poultry to third parties in July-September 2018, which it was 19.2% more than a year ago.
According to a company report on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) on Thursday, poultry production in Q3 2018 grew by 10%, to 150,650 tonnes.
In January-September 2018, MHP increased poultry sales to third parties by 7.2%, to 449,220 tonnes thanks to growth in exports sales and following the strategy of poultry meat stock decrease starting from Q3 2018.
Poultry production in January-September 2018 grew by 8%, to 458,540 tonnes due to increased production of heavier chicken and decreased share of thinning as well as due the launch of new rearing sites of Phase 2.
Cattle numbers in Ukraine as of October 1, 2018 amounted to almost 3.862 million animals, which is 4.1% less than on the same date in 2017, the State Statistics Service has reported. At the same time, the number of cows by the specified date decreased by 3.5%, to 2.018 million animals.
According to the state service, on October 1, the number of pigs decreased by 4% compared to the same date last year, to 6.463 million animals, sheep and goats by 3.2%, to 1.516 million.
The number of poultry in the country increased by 2.2% compared with October 1, 2017, amounting to 238.816 million birds.
Ukraine in 2018 could increase exports of poultry by 7.4%, to 290,000 tonnes, the Union of Poultry Farmers of Ukraine has said. “A record-breaking amount of poultry meat was exported in 2017 – 270,000 tonnes. This indicator will reach 290,000 tonnes in 2018. Along with the increase in exports, there is a tendency to increase the import of poultry meat to Ukraine. In the past year, 116,000 tonnes was imported, and in the current year it is expected to reach 130,000 tonnes,” Director General of the association Serhiy Karpenko said in the report of the association.
According to him, in the course of 2017, 66,700 tonnes of poultry and meat products were exported to the EU and Ukraine was the third among all countries exporting to the EU countries. “The growth in industrial production of broiler meat by 3.3% or by 30,000 tonnes was seen in 2017. For the seven months ending July 2018, production in agricultural enterprises increased by 5.6%,” Karpenko said.
Consumption of eggs in 2017 was 247 units per person. In 2018, the association predicts an increase in the consumption of eggs to 254 pieces per person.
